In the words of Ming Ming the Wonderpet duck, “This is serwious folks!!! “

Banana Man has received 10 days suspension from school for running down the sidelines during a football game at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, Virginia.  This story is a perfect example of schools picking their battles wisely.  As it turns out, the Stafford County School System has gotten into a pissing contest with not only their entire student body but also the nation.  Banana Man has gone viral.

Additionally, Banana Man has autism.  Cutting to the chase, his handicapping condition may very well make him impulsive and therefore, not subject to suspension. Banana Man might have the entire nation taking up a collection for the  court challenge of his suspension.

If Stafford County were smart, they would give the kid a job and let him run the field during half time every game. They would be the envy of all the other high schools.   Mascot Banana Man.  As long as this kid is receiving punishment, the school is the enemy.

If anyone has video of some big Bubba sheriff leading the kid away, please post it.  These people deal with kids every day.  They should know this is one they will not win.  Not in a million years.  Banana Man is the hero of the hour.

How does a school system save face after this bad of a screw up?

Well, at least he wasn’t in his birthday suit. Is that the school mascot? The Colonial Forge Bananas? Couldn’t be any worse than the guy in the crazy getup at all the Philadelphia Phillies home games.

  2. Wolverine

Heh, heh…Colonial Forge Bananas. Wonder if that will go viral on the internet?

  3. @wolverine, I think the Colonial Forge mascot is an eagle. Hmmmm, eagle with a banana?

  4. Free Banana Man!

Banana man needs an education too!

A ten days suspension in the public school system means he’ll miss next to nothing.

I stand behind the school decision. Personal responsibility.

Dressing up in the costume, and running around the field does not seem like an impulsive thing to do – it was thought out. If they do not do anything to him, what about when the next reality star runs around the field in his boxers (or less) – when do you start enforcing the issue.

    1. Is there a rule about running around the school in a banana costume? I think they will be hard pressed to enforce the suspension. Anyone willing to lay odds?

He wasn’t breaking any laws and being a banana isn’t obscene.

It seems as though the principal that has suspended the boy likes to stir things up a bit. Checkout this story. This poor kid should be inschool, not suspended.

I knew it. There just had to be a PWC connection in all this.

Times have certainly changed. I remember back to the days when George Washington University still had an intercollegiate football team. There was a Saturday afternoon game at D.C. Stadium against Virginia Military Institute. Some of the GWU frat boys made up a sign and ran it past the VMI cadet corps in the stands. The sign said: “Virgin Men’s Institute.” Those angry Keydets poured out of the stands and started chasing the frat boys. The D.C. cops had to step in so the football game could continue. As far as I can recall, the cops took no one away and neither those frat boys nor the Keydets involved were suspended. Times have indeed changed.

Wonder pets Wonder pets we’re on our way…to help a baby _____ and save the day.

Actually, I like the Backyardigans a lot more. Backyardigans rule!!

  9. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Backyardigans are OK. My son is a Max and Ruby nut. Max and Ruby is to him as The Sopranos was to me. I could get into Yo-Gabba-Gabba with its 80s references, but I can’t get past the bumpy phallus one.

Really!!!!! from insidenova…. “suspension for 10 days and is recommending that the suspension be extended until the end of the school year”.

The Principal also banned the protest t-shirts. I guess the Patriot Act is alive and well in Virginia.

  11. I am fairly speechless over this entire story. I can’t see losing that much ‘educatioanl capital’ over something this silly. If I were the super, I would fire the principal so fast, just for sheer stupidity.

  12. Need to Know

The ACLU has stepped in to defend the students who want to do nothing more than wear T-shirts in support of banana-man. I’m not a big ACLU fan, but agree with them completely here. The problem is not with banana-man, but with this fascist principal. Apparently, she got in trouble in PWC while a principal here for bullying a reporter. This woman needs to be fired immediately and find a job more suited to her personality and attitude, such as prison guard. I wouldn’t want her anywhere near, or to have any authority over my kids.

Since when is harmless silliness a crime at high school? What this kid did was nothing compared to real problems in our public schools. Killing his future over something this trivial is despicable and that principal must go!
