Fascinating that CNN.com and Washington Post have barely mentioned the Alabama decision. It’s as if they don’t know how to process it and are waiting for some kind of effective way to spin the story from their masters.
(By contrast, the marionettes at FOX News always know instantly how to spin a story).
I haven’t done a thread on it either Rick, because I don’t know how to process it. It is inconsistent. I need more information before I can even comment. The school part is very disturbing to me.
I’m sure it’s disturbing to a lot of people. Which is why you would expect the story to be trumpeted as big news, wouldn’t you? It seems to me that the world is shifting under the feet of illegal immigration supporters, and they literally don’t know how to react.
We’re moving towards each state being able to take steps to curb illegal immigration. Probably the Supreme Court won’t ban all these attempts, what with states having actual rights and all, and the federal Government’s inability to lead forward.
I expect the Alabama law will be challenged and parts will be overturned. That school information just wont pass constitutional muster because the schools do not need the information with Pyler v Doe as standing law.
So parts have been challenged and some have been held in abeyance by U.S. District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn. I wonder if the State of Alabama is going to challenge the District Court’s ruling. Is this how the Balkanization of America begins? Some people are in favor of the states going their own way the just let one little disaster happen and they are all screaming for the Feds.
I read that Eric Cantor, the hypocrit, has been putting the pressure on to get disaster funds for his district while at the same time attempting to deny similar funds to others worse off.
If you have ever wondered why we need some sort of national health insurance, just read this article. An example of what your premiums go for–the total compensation for the CEO of Aetna in 2010 was $20,730,968.00, including stock options. That ‘s just the tip of the iceberg. If I have read things right, he has another $174,000,000+ plus in unexercised stock options. And yet Congress cannot agree that the citizens are in need of some sort of support/help.
Health Insurers Seek Higher Premiums
The cost of health insurance this year rose more steeply than in previous years, outstripping wages and adding uncertainty about the pace of growing costs…
Aetna made a $1.8 billion profit in 2010, up 28 percent from the $1.4 billion the company made in 2009. Profit is good but is this much profit reasonable?
Well,if you missed the big Stewart Rally and forgot to put you check in the mail, you still have a chance to help good ol’ Corey:
Dear Friend,
As we approach the General Election in November, I would like to take this time to notify you of upcoming volunteer opportunities for our campaign.
On October 1st our campaign will host a joint door-to-door event with Jeff Frederick’s state senate campaign! Will you join us at the Frederick Campaign Headquarters at 9:30 AM for this joint walk between our two great campaigns!?
We will also be phone banking on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 PM to 9 PM at Gregory Construction, 9410 Prince William St, Manassas, VA 20110. We could really use your help in spreading the word about our record of proven results in Prince William County. I hope that you’ll join our grassroots campaign today!
Sincerely,
Corey Stewart
P.S. We are approaching our end of the quarter fundraising deadline! Will you contribute $5 to our campaign to help us reach our goal?
“Calling it “a negative milestone” in Hispanics’ explosive growth in the United States, the Pew Hispanic Center study said in 2010, 37.3% of poor children in the U.S. were Hispanic, compared with 30.5% white and 26.6% black.”
“Hispanics now make up 16.3% of the total American population — but in the youth demographic, Hispanic kids comprise an even bigger share — 23.1% of U.S. children are Latino, the study said.”
Get your checkbooks out! You supporters have got some writing to do. Here’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into!
Were you addressing those comments to Elena and me? Why do you think WE have gotten you into a fine mess? Why should anyone not support ‘Hispanics?’ Are you using the term ‘Hispanic’ and ‘illegal’ inter-changeably?
I expect the Hispanic community has been hit harder than other communities because of the number of Hispanics who were in the construction business. The building industry has just been crippled. Daddies are out of work. The kids of those daddies are thrown in to poverty.
For heaven sakes, do you truly believe that this “explosive growth” was a result of legal Hispanic immigration? YES, the majority of Hispanic and Illegal immigrants is interchangeable. What more information can you possibly need? Watch a few episodes of Border Wars to get a better understanding of the struggle. When most of the Hispanics at the 2007 BOCS meeting needed an interpreter just to convey where they lived, then I have to believe they weren’t naturalized citizens, but were most likely here illegally. Your “but how do you know they’re illegal” argument is wearing thin.
SA, I think you are taking a quantum leap there. I have watched border wars. If you plan on using Hispanic and illegal immigrant interchangeably you are going to end up embarrassing yourself.
Let’s discuss that interpreter situation at the bocs meeting. I would not assume that those using an interpreter could not speak English. Are you comfortable speaking publically? Most people are not. Those willing to do it are much more comfortable speaking in their first language.
As for citizens, you are aware that many people live in this country legally who are not citizens? I know lots of white people who are not citizens but legal residents.
It can wear as thin as it wants. You have no idea who is here legally and who isn’t. You can bs and bluster all you want. That doesn’t make it so. How about those people here on a TPS visa? Can you pick them out of a crowd? SA, you are too much.
Moon-howler :
Cato, what’s with Silver Wheaton? They dumped about 10 bucks a share in a very short period of time. Might this be a good time to buy back in?
Winners get sold to meet liquidations. Silver is 100% pure speculation, every riverboat gambler hedge hog had a piece of that action. That said, this is a good spot to speculate but if it loses 29 bucks you need to skitter off the position ricki tick.
The next day, Muller received a call from the ATF asking him to come in for a meeting with all of his personal guns, which they insisted they had to authority to order, he said. Muller held his ground and refused to submit to the audit without first going through due process.
“The ATF people were just as nice as can be. They were not mean or hateful—and finally I asked the lady on the phone: Don’t you have something better to do?” he said. He then re-explained that there were vouchers for guns and that no guns were being given away.
“She said: ‘Let me tell you how important this is, the White House started their morning with a briefing on you. We got a call from Washington, D.C. this morning. They wanted you checked out,” he said.
But the White House had no knowledge of Fast and Furious……ok, then.
The ATF needs to be disbanded as a criminal organization.
I saw the interview and it reminded me of the debate we were having on another post about where to set the boundaries on public expression by public employees. In any event, the investigation the Sheriff wants of AG Holder for violating treaty requirements on shipping arms should begin right after the investigation of former VP Cheney and others for violating domestic law and treaty obligations when they authorized and conducted torture.
@Moe, ah, I saw that touch of class. You can always count on Breitbart for that lowest common denominator. He also told unions (generically I assume) to go F themselves. All those family values folks roared, squirmed and squealed with delight. It apparently was top entertainment.
Personally, I’d make Nancy Pelosi undisputed queen of the Democratic party and immediately make Garofolo Obama’s sole speech-writer. Those two vile creatures are a gift!
The verbal fight between Bristol Palin and a gay man that prompted claims Palin is a homophobe was “set up by the producers of her reality show,” says Bristol’s television co-star Kyle Massey, who is not happy about it. Massey feels it was a “little too convenient” that so many cameras were there to catch the fight. Massey believes the incident was set up, but that Bristol had no knowledge of it. Massey reportedly feels the Biography reality show is “sleazy” and that he signed for a scripted show, and not a reality show. After recently putting the Arizona home that she purchased last year on the market, Bristol moved in with her ‘Dancing With The Stars’ co-star Kyle Massey in L.A., prompting rumors that they are more than just friends. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/entertainment/bristol-palin-fight-gay-man-faked-reality-show
M-H,
Feel like a salmon trying to swim upstream againist a strong current
only to be snatched up and devoured by a huge bear. Another really bad day
on the market with the old 401K still in the black, but not for very long if this keeps up.
Reminds me of the discussion in a recent thread about a teacher who referred to a Tea Party leader as a Nazi. But of course that was okay. The first amendment rights of teachers are more protected than anyone else’s.
@Kelly, why would you say that? Who yanked him? Did the US govt come in and yank him? The NFL? The station? That makes a big difference.
It sounds like it was an ESPN decision. That is their right. His right to say what he said. I can think of all sorts of people who have made public statements in the sports/entertainment industry who have not lived to tell about it. Dixie Chicks and Rush Limbaugh come to mind.
The object of the derision also has a great deal to do with it. The teacher was was in a discussion with a nobody who said something he found objectionable. Hank Williams Jr.was referring to the president of the United States as Hitler/ He also didn’t leave it alone and he allowed the Foxies to set him up. Huge difference.
@Kelly3406
Free speech??????? i think i missed something. Hank the Moron is geting paid for his song on MNF. There is nothing free about it and ESPN can act and protect its brand as it wishes (or are you against the free market as well?). FOX protects in bottom line and brand by spewing this free speech. Murdoch would change his tune if he was not making money.
I was truly amazed and bothered at the amount of time spent on the rock at Perry’s parents’ place in Texas. Is it really that important in the scheme of things?
I don’t think much of Perry, but this rock has simply gotten to big in the news.
And Cain is milking it for all it’s worth.
What about jobs, war, Wall Street, etc. The media stinks, in this respect. They pick up ONE little thing and keept at it. Thank goodness I can watch BBC. (they were just as bad, though, as the US re the young woman on trial)
Occupying Wall Street, demanding accountabilityBy Alan Silverleib, CNN
updated 10:00 PM EST, Mon October 3, 2011
(CNN) — Hero Vincent has a dream: to see the titans of Wall Street trade their palatial office suites for a row of dank prison cells.
The crime? Theft. Stealing billion-dollar, taxpayer-funded bailouts. Getting rich on your dime while you struggle to make ends meet.
And if you’re tired of standing by while the rich get richer and the middle class crumbles, he has a suggestion: Take it to the streets.
Vincent, 21 and unemployed, has suddenly become one of several unofficial spokesmen for Occupy Wall Street, a leaderless protest movement made largely of twenty-somethings upset with the state of the economy, the state of the war in Afghanistan, the state of the environment, and the state of America and the world in general.
If that sounds vague, it’s meant to be. In less than three weeks, the movement has become a magnet for countless disaffected Americans. And at a time when an overwhelming majority of Americans say the country’s on
Rather than comparing Hank Jr. to that high-rolling public school teacher who spoke at a public forum the closer analogy is Gilbert Gottfried who was fired as the voice of the AFLAC duck after insensitive tweets about the tsunami in Japan (a place where AFLAC does business). In both instances it was corporapeople who made the choice out of concern for their profits which they depend since their money allows them to speak. It’s really a preserving speech decision if you think about it from the corporaperson perspective.
@Moe, oh dear God, you have me laughing. The AFLAC Duck? I think I have more respect for the duck than I do that Williams clown who comes across like an old drunken ignorant redneck.
Moon-howler :
@Moe, ah, I saw that touch of class. You can always count on Breitbart for that lowest common denominator. He also told unions (generically I assume) to go F themselves. All those family values folks roared, squirmed and squealed with delight. It apparently was top entertainment.
Hmmmm….I don’t remember Breitbart ever being a “family values” man. That attack is getting old.
Will you equally condemn every instance of the left’s incivility or bad humor when they break their “why can’t we just be civil?” mantra?
Of course, Hank, Jr. DID NOT refer to Obama as Hitler. I saw that piece. The media are making it up.
He compared a suggested outing between HIMSELF and Obama as likely as an outing together of Netanyahu and Hitler.
Again, the media, INCLUDING FOX, commited knee jerk idiocy. Gretchen IMMEDIATELY had to distance FOX from his comments in case their were attributed to them. No one actually listened to and understood what he said.
Goldie Hawn is on Morning Joe. Lots of botox there. She has a book out called 10 Mindful Minutes.
The morning crew is discussing a safe zone for kids where there is no noise, homework, etc. 4 hours of homework is too much.
Do kids have more stress than a generation ago?
Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is up next. A blast from the past.

I guess that’s why the Mrs. came to my door, and he worked the other side. My mom had the pleasure. 🙂

Time to take our counmtry back!
@Kelly3406
@starry
I am unsure about the protesters. I don’t think they have articulated their message very well. They have let someone else do it for them.
@Moe, oh dear God, you have me laughing. The AFLAC Duck? I think I have more respect for the duck than I do that Williams clown who comes across like an old drunken ignorant redneck.
Sigh, waiting for someone to come along and call me a racist over rednecks.
RACIST!
My day is complete.
@Cargo why do you ask? You know I can’t stand Brietbart. I think Breitbart is family values only when it suits actually.
I don’t condemn every instance of the right’s incivility. Why should you expect me to hold every instance of the left’s incivility?
Of course, Hank, Jr. DID NOT refer to Obama as Hitler. I saw that piece. The media are making it up.
He compared a suggested outing between HIMSELF and Obama as likely as an outing together of Netanyahu and Hitler.
Again, the media, INCLUDING FOX, commited knee jerk idiocy. Gretchen IMMEDIATELY had to distance FOX from his comments in case their were attributed to them. No one actually listened to and understood what he said.
