Apparently Corey Stewart and Tom Gordy get a perk the rest of the candidates don’t get–the use of Ben Lomond Park to advertise their candidacy.
Corey Stewart and Tom Gordy both have signs on Ben Lomond Park property. Corey knows this is not kosher. He knows this is against county ordinance. He should be setting a better example for newcomer Tom Gordy.
Quick Corey, make that phone call and have someone go pull those bad boys.
(Notice the Don’s John at the top of the hill. Is that the welcoming office of Westgate? Some one needs to take that thing down!)
Thanks to Lafayette for the pictures and the heads up.
[Lafayette has just reported that all the signs are now off Ben Lomond Park property and the Don’s John has been moved back to the wooded area. Thanks for your efforts, Lafayette.]
The gentlemen can leave me a note here, if they need a volunteer to get rid of them. 👿
I would expect them to send their overly zealous campaign workers out for retrieval of signs.
The sleazy season has begun also. Yesterday morning along the route I drive, there were lots of Ann’s and Candland’s signs out. I don’t know enough about this to tell you if any of them were properly placed or not. However, this morning all of Ann’s signs were gone and all of Candland’s still there. All had been clustered together so if one was in violation, so were the others. Hmmmmmm, wonder what happened to Ann’s signs overnight????
The
bluered bird of happiness probably plucked each one out of the ground and flew off with it. Imagine that, here in Prince William County.I have known serveral people who are now important leaders who used to take down Dem signs and deposit them over in a driveway in Occaquan Forest. I used to have the pictures. They are now in Seattle Washington with Tom Ross.
Will the Sleazebags who took Ann’s signs please put them back!!!
Thanks for reporting this, Theseus. Let us know of any more sign pluckings.
(The homeowner with the signs in the driveway can calm down. I won’t out them. They weren’t responsible for the stealing anyway, I don’t think.)
I hate it when I am fair…but in fairness to Corey, I expect he has no clue his signs are on Ben Lomond Park property. This is gotcha politics. I am also sure that Corey will have the matter corrected once someone reports in to him.
The point is, this is gotcha. Stealing someone’s signs is another matter. Signs are expensive and many of those running for supervisor are running on tight budgets. PW residents need to be reminded that taking someone’s signs is THEFT. Parents, tell your kids not to do it also, especially if you are a Dem or Rep activist. Your kids hear things and there is a good chance they don’t know that stealing campaign signs, even if not placed in an appropriate place, is theft.
The Den Mother will now go back in her lair.
I did send an email to Chairman Stewart, Supervisors Stirrup, Nohe and Covington. All three districts converge at Flat Branch. I’ve gotten a swift response from Supervisor Stirrup’s office regarding the signs. I trust they will be removed promptly. The email also came with the good news that the Don’s John is possibly going to be moved. I do appreciated the email and information. Thank you Supervisor Stirrup’s staff. I also got a response from Supervisor Nohe, which I appreciate too.
I truly appreciate your need to be fair to Corey. However, these campaign workers ALL have maps and public land is clearly marked on ANY map. I think you are cutting him too much slack for once. 🙄
Wow, imagine THAT, cutting Corey too much slack. Someone write the date and time!
good job Laf!!!!
Colgan’s illegal signs were out all over Brentsville and a week later the Gordy illegal signs appeared right next to them. I would hope they both know better.
The candidates and party, matter not to me. It’s illegal sign placement on public land and nothing more. If these people want to be in public office they need to show more respect for public land and not litter up our neighborhood.
Elena, I hope Moon isn’t past out after reading that comment, but it had to be said.
Hopefully I am fair to all the candidates. I don’t have to agree with someone to treat them fairly.
I can only go by what I am told. If someone has signage issues, plant them here.
Has anyone complained to the police or to the zoning folks? If not, why not?
I think I’ve seen VDOT guys removing signs from the right-of-way near me.
It’s not in a public VDOT right of way, so it’s not their problem. It is public park property and I believe the Park Authority is going to take care of them. I didn’t think Neighborhood Services should have to deal with this because it was political in nature. I sent an email to a few Supervisors and Melissa Peacor. I’ve gotten responses back from Stirrup’s office, Marty and a the Park Authority. Frankly, NO county staff or resident should have to pick these signs up. The guilty parties should send their campaign people out to remove them. They found their way once to plant them, and they can find their way again.
Of course, as a citizen, don’t you have a right to clean up those signs since they are in “illegal” areas?
That type of sign makes for a GREAT target holder at the gun range. Just staple a target to the back…..
I would not do it. That makes you the judge and jury. I would leave them and either report them to neighborhood services or the politician whose name is on them.
What kind of rules do you have down your way about campaign signs?
Never thought about them, but I believe that the campaigns have a certain time to pick them all up. I see them in public rights of way and on private land.
As for being the judge and jury, I was making a point that you had free target holders available for the taking as they are not in the right place…..just a joke.
We have a county ordiance that dictates where they will go and where they will not go. I can’t tell you to the letter what the regs say…I am not running for office now or ever so no need to know.
PW does NOT permit signs in the public rights of way and medians. However, cross Bull Run into Fairfax Co. and the roads are littered with signs. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It looks like some sort of “sign graveyard”.
I’m pleased to report ALL signs are gone and the Don’s John has been moved. My sincere thanks to all that made sure these two issues were taken care of promptly. I’m very impressed all clear in 24 hours.
It is further proof that we don’t need to take out a cannon to kill a fly. A few emails and a blog post seemed to do the trick. Often just bringing things to someone’s attention works.
That porta-potty was the worst in my opinion. I am surprised the residents of that house didn’t burn it down in disgust.
I have 2 new crusades. The first one will be talking the supervisors in to reading an resolution or ordinance before they vote on it. When watching the bocs meetings, I often forget the wording of the law and if they have just voted for or against something. The little time it would take to do that would clarify so much.
Second crusade- lining out Dumfries Road and ‘Prince William Parkway” so people (and navigators) know where they are. Let’s do some renaming that makes sense.
