40 Days Pro-Life Parents:

Love your children. Care for your children.   Keep them off of Sudley Road.

Friday  I was in the vicinity of your demonstration around  5 pm.  There were four or five school age kids out there flapping signs and acting like they were at a car wash.  Most of the  adults were standing around talking and obviously allowing the kids to do whatever it is kids do when their parents don’t have them under control  .  I wish I had had my camera.  They weren’t being bad.  They were being kids and it is a dangerous situation out there on that section of Sudley Road.  A kid can fall off the curb, a driver can be distracted and run up on the curb, or a driver can hit someone in front and cause a chain reaction.

Your children and others are in danger when you allow them to hop up and down near the curb, waving signs at drivers who should be  watching the road and the cars in front of them.  There is a traffic light some 75 feet from where you are standing.  Drivers have to be very aware of  the traffic situation, not what is going on on the side of the road.

Adults can do what they feel they need to do.  I have no problem with the adult demonstrations. What I don’t understand is why do you want to involve your children and put them in harm’s way?  Is it going to take a child being injured or killed or another wreck to make some of you all do the responsible thing?   My heart was in my throat as I watched them from a nearby building.  Being pro-life means being pro-all life, especially your cute little kids who were out there having a good time.

Where are the Manassas City police?  The behavior I saw on Friday made me question if a uniform officer ought to be standing watch over all demonstrations.  It just isn’t safe to have children out there on a road as busy and heavily trafficed as Sudley Road.

Love and peace,

Grandmother Moon-howler

I fully agree! Dangerous situation at best. I also shudder when I see the parents park the baby strollers on the sidewalk just inches from the busy street. Not only are the babies in danger of being hit by a distracted driver , but they are also breathing the exhaust fumes from the hundreds of cars driving by. It can’t be good for the babies to be out in the elements when its 100 degrees or 30 degrees either. Use some common sense. If you are pro-life, just remember, life is a life no matter what the age.

    1. Welcome to Moonhowlings, Tyndall. Your input is important to us.

I am glad others are noticing the precarious position those children are in.

MH, fully agree about it. Next time you see a child beyond the limits of the sidewalk, call Manassas City Police. It would not be the first time they had to admonish the folks who stand there during the 40days and other times about safety in public for children.

P.S. as for MCPS, if they patrol that way and see it they stop and say something. Otherwise, it is considered to be a lawful assembly within the rules on that. But do call MCPS – and they will send a car along….and calls can be anonymous in terms of your name will not be mentioned as the complaintent.

  4. I actually think demonstrations should be supervised. I saw way too many attempts to distract drivers. The stretch right before that light is no place to take your eyes off the road, even for a minute.

The kids up there shouldn’t be there. It isn’t a kids’ topic and it isn’t a playground.

I wonder how these protester will protest when an accident occurs due to their distracting behavior. I thought pro-lifers cared about all living humans. So, why put the precious human lives in harms way on 234 coming off of one of the wierdest turns in a road in PW, and certainly the most wierd in the city.

The protesters usually stay right in one small area. Since this latest protest has been goining on, they’ve been walking all the way up to the light at Stonewall Rd. Does anyone know how large their protest area is supposed to be? I saw an entire classroom with school uniforms led by a priest several days. Nice to know the local Catholic church thinks kids protesting during school hours is more important than actual school work.

  6. Lawful doesn’t mean that there cannot be a police presence. That is just a very dangerous stretch of road. Demonstrations have been problematic there for years.

People don’t call the police because they feel like idiots saying kids are playing too close to the street. Seriously. A child is distracting drivers. That really is a good way to get labeled as one of the resident nut cases.

Can you imagine if one of the public schools was involved in a protest of any sort?

Holy cow, the roof would come off.

None of it makes sense to me.
