Remember to get  out and vote on Tueday, November 8.

I will vote for 2 Republicans.  Your challenge.  Which 2 get my vote?

The rest will be I, D or skipped.

                                        Milt Johns and Don Richardson

No one had me figured for Milt Johns.

  1. Goodbye RC

afraid you will be disappointed in my lack of wisdom.

Theseus, check with Lafayette for those fliers. She usually saves them. Mine go straight to the trash can as a rule.

  2. Slowpoke Rodriguez

It’s a rare occasion when I can get behind anything Obama does, so when the opportunity presents itself…..Obama has threatened to make public lawmaker’s special funding requests. For the love of God, why is that a threat? Do it! If it makes Republicans look bad, so be it! It’s called “holding their feet to the fire”.

    1. Tell us more, Pokie. I am just not up on this one.

  3. Cargosquid

The Occupy movement has finally jumped the shark….

There’s a little webcomic that I read. In the next link, the crown you see has been “possessed” by one of the protagonists, a wizard of some kind, and is making trouble for all the “bad guys.”

    I lol’d.
[ed.note: I took down the link because of suspected virus. When I opened it Norton went nuts. Sorry Cargo. Anyone who opened that link should run their virus software.]

    1. Cargo, big apologies from me. I took down the link. I was reading it and Norton went nuts with malicious attack notices.

Something bad apparently got on that site.

  4. Lafayette

    @Theseus

    @Moon-howler

I filed all of the slick fliers in the circular file immediately this year. I’d seen enough of them during the primaries. I do have all of them from 2007 though. I guess it’s a little for those now. I’ll still get the slickers in the mailbox for the next few days. I will archive those last ones, and that should be quite a few.

I’ve kept my fax hooked up so I haven’t heard any robocalls. This has been a lifesaver. I hate the telephone.

  5. Starryflights

Time for Herman to drop out of the race. Herman Cain is a liar and does not respect women. He is also ignorant about foreign affairs, as his recent remarks on China illustrate. But he won’t drop out and will likely win the nomination.

It’s important to take Clozaril AS PRESCRIBED! Do not take “skipping one or two” so lightly.

Long story short, Obama is going to Bali while Congress battles over budget matters. Part of the fight….Obama has threatened to make (presumably Republican) lawmaker’s earmark requests public. I hope he does…..they should be public to begin with. If Republicans are making special funding requests, the voters should know about them.

  8. @Pokie, I agree. Why wouldn’t they be public?

I don’t care where Obama goes while Congress sits on its hands.

  9. @Starryflights

I had sort of taken a wait and see with Cain. I just feel he has so many other problems that this one was rather unimportant, in the grand scheme of things…until I heard that woman testify yesterday. That was truly ewwwwwwwwwwww from start to finish.

There have been just too many people to think some of it isn’t grounded in some sort of truth.

  10. Voters, please report in on your poll experiences.

  11. Pat.Herve

It is a sad day when things like this happen in America – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5vhyKj43f4&feature=youtube_gdata – a Police Officer, not in any danger, fires a weapon at a person who is protesting in a civil manner. A sad day indeed.

  12. Elena just voted. Let’s see how soon the lies get phoned in to Sudley School to make one of the blogs. During primary season one of the Candland sycophants called over to Sudley to report that she was working for Martha Hendley (a lie) at her polling place. It appeared on a local blog within the hour.

Elena has left the building. She is out taking a picture of a rather strange political sight.

  13. @Pat.Herve

Pat, that link isn’t working. Can you re-plant it?

  14. IVAN

Voted at Metz this morning. The Mrs. and I were the only ones there but several others were showing up as we left. Tom Gordy was working the door. He is a little taller than he looks in his photos. He got to be at least 1 inch taller than Colgan.

  15. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
Weird…my Norton was quiet as a mouse. Sorry about that.

  16. Pat.Herve

Moon – here is the link to the NY Daily News – http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/oakland-police-officer-caught-video-shooting-protester-beanbag-article-1.974171 – it has the video.

And, on another note – China is phasing out the incandescent light bulb in order to become more energy efficient and combat global warming – who would have thought the Chinese would do that?

  17. @Cargo, I don’t know what set things off but it said it was a malicious attack. You might want to run Norton again.

  18. Thanks Pat. Who would have thunk it re Chinese!

Bill Clinton was on Morning Joe. Ahhh. He was giving some advice on fixing the economy. He has outlined it in his new book.

Lafayette called in some numbers. Around 9 am 60 had voted at Stonewall High, 109 at Ellis and 139 at Sinclair. Sinclair is a Dem stonghold. She said lots of folks were confused about where to vote since so many polling places have changed.

  19. @Pat.Herve
Pat, that is very disturbing. There is just a culture of hostility within some departments. I always felt that way about PG County. That kid some of them beat up after a Maryland basketball game reaffirmed that feeling. This time they beat up the wrong kid. His grandfather was a rather influential judge who didn’t let the matter rest until some justice was served.

Cops that untrained and with that much bully in them should not be on any police force. It would not be allowed here in Manassas or Prince William County, I don’t think.

  20. Clinton S. Long

I voted today and saw something interesting. At the check-in desk, next to the sign for “show an id upon request” was a flyer for Toddy Puller. I picked it up and tried to give it to the people and neither one accepted it. So I turned it their way and pushed it to their side. I commented that I didn’t find it appropriate on the desk and that some people ignore signs.

They said that someone must have accidentally left it. That may be true and likely is but they should have taken steps to remove it from the table once discovered. They never picked it up since I looked over when I left.

Of course I also don’t put it past any campaign worker regardless of the candidate to become zealous and accidentally leaving it on the table.

  21. Clinton S. Long

By the way, that was in no way speaking about the poll workers except that they should have disposed of it immediately by taking it from me and giving it to someone in charge. I don’t for one moment think that they put it there so any implication of that was unintentional.

  22. I just did a review of the 2008 presidential returns for PWC. The eastern end of the county is definitely Democratic. Not so much over here.

@Clinton, they might have been told they cannot touch campaign literature. Who knows?
I don’t know what poll worker rules are. You are right though, it shouldn’t have been there. That would be a good question to call in to the election board. Let us know if you do and what you find out.

  23. Rick Bentley

I think I’m going to vote for a Democrat or two. If they end up letting me down I’ll be on this board b**ching all about it in future!

    1. That’s what we are here for, Rick.

  24. Cargosquid

Well, I voted. And I voted for the independent…Bill Janis, for Commonwealth Attorney.

    1. @Cargo,

Was it painful not to vote for the R?

  25. Cargosquid

    @Cato the Elder

I’m soooo glad I wasn’t swallowing my soda when I saw that pic.

    Too funny.

  26. Lafayette

Rick Bentley :I think I’m going to vote for a Democrat or two. If they end up letting me down I’ll be on this board b**ching all about it in future!

    Good for you, Rick!
We’ll always have something to b**ch about around our area. 🙂

  27. Cato the Elder

    @Cargosquid

All those women just misunderstood him. He was ordering pizza when he said “hold the sausage.”

    1. @Cato,

Oh dear God, you all are killing me. bwwwwwhahahahahahahahahahaha!

  28. Lafayette

    @Cato the Elder
Good one and loved the ice cream picture too.
    Thanks for the laughs.

  29. @Cargo, I think I am far more bi-partisan than you. 😈

In general, it looks like Joe Paterno is on his way out. The winningest coach of all.

He followed the rules. Maybe he just didn’t do enough. Meanwhile, hopefully Sandusky will spend his last days in jail.

What a way for Paterno to go out, after that record, over some scum bag who should have been beaten to a bloody pulp.

  30. punchak

    Cato the Elder :@Cargosquid
All those women just misunderstood him. He was ordering pizza when he said “hold the sausage.”

Do you suppose he was “cuddling” a German woman when he got the idea of
“Nein, nein, nein”. (stolen from Kimmel)

  31. Rick Bentley

Just voted. A woman approached me stumping for Candland. I started towards saying something nasty about him, but she told me she was his mother. So I dropped that.

I set a good example for my 10-year old Grandson by voting for “Howard the Duck” in one race rather than for a Democrat or a Republican I can’y support or don’t know anything about. I gave him the “I Voted” sticker and told him to wear it today, to freak people out.

  32. Rick, we all here at the Howler house got a big kick out of you not grossing out Candland’s mother. Good for you for reining it in!

You are going to laugh if Howard the Duck wins.

I skipped one too. No write in though.

  33. Rick Bentley

I did reign it in, though I wouldn’t have gone too far between her being a polite older woman and also me having my grandson with me.

A Colgan supporter asked me if I wanted something and I said “No thanks; I don’t like him at all”. My grandson got a kick out of that.

    1. Of course, those Colgan supporters were probably HIS grandchildren.

  34. Rick Bentley

It gave me a chance to show my grandson the voting process, and also to talk on the ride home about who Howard the Duck is/was.

  35. Cato the Elder

All that sample ballot nonsense seems to be an awful waste. Seriously, does anyone ever read those things?

  36. Rick Bentley

The signs are an even bigger waste!

  37. Cargosquid

I tend to vote Republican. Yes, I know…shocking.

I noticed that in my races, most of the races were unopposed. Where are the Democrats? I want there to be competition! I want the candidates to realize they will lose their jobs if they get too comfortable.

  38. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
The funny thing….because Janis is running as an independent…any Republican that supports him instead of the dirtbag Republican….is removed from the GOP committees…so Sheriff Wade, the former chairman of the Henrico GOP organization; Cantor, Bolling, and many others are technically not affiliated with the Republican party at this time…….

So here’s your chance to support the independents!

Janis jumped into the race to salvage the GOP candidacy. I don’t know how he got on the ballot, but apparently the current GOP candidate is NOT a good one.

    As for Paterno….

Why did the witness McCreary just report it? What type of man doesn’t kick the ever loving crap out of the dirt bag that is assaulting a kid? And if Paterno know, why did he continue to let the scumbag back into the grounds?

    Its a shame.

  39. Cargosquid

In honor of those hated, useless robo calls, from View From The Porch: http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/

Me: “God, what a mayoral race. You’ve got one candidate getting get-out-the-vote endorsement calls by Bill Clinton, and the other getting ’em from Rudy Giuliani. And they both think that’s a good thing!”

    RX: “Well, they’re robocalls…”

Me: “Of course they’re robocalls! Can you imagine how that would go down live? ‘Hey, Mrs. Goldstein. This here’s Bill Clinton. How you doin’?'”

    RX: “‘…what’re you wearin’?'”

  40. @Cargosquid

I don’t know re Joe Paterno. He is 84 years old. I hope he will tell the entire story. Even though I have heard much cussing over the years about Penn State everyone respects Joe.

It makes me sick and I can’t disagree with what you are saying at face value.

  41. Elena

It’s a sad day when all it takes to win is have the right letter by your name. Gainesville was an up hill battle for a Democrat. Peter Candland will be watched very closely. I hope he understands how much hard work being supervisor entails.

  42. His job will be that much more difficult because he made enemies along the way, when it was so unnecessary.

  43. marinm

Thank you to everyone that cares enough to vote and especially to those that selflessly serve as Election Officers to oversee our fair democratic process.

It’s ugly but it’s the best thing we’ve got going.

  44. Were there any surprises? It looks like the Va. Senate will break 20/20. Interesting.

I will miss Don Richardson. I believe he was tired of dealing with the politics of schools. He gave many years of service to Prince William County Schools and I always found him to be honorable and a gentleman. He had faith in the Prince William staff and always tried to make things better for them, whether it was over benefits or just dealing with Independent Hill. He will always be welcome on this blog. Thanks for your years of service, Don.

  45. Hi Marinm,

I agree. It is a long day, for sure. At least there wasn’t an earthquake like for the primary.

  46. I wonder if Chris Royse will write another cry-baby letter to the newspaper asking the Diocese to punish his opponent, Frank Principi?

Democrats–there has to be a stronger presence in this county. Candidates need to be vetted. I know you all are out there. You just aren’t making a strong presence.
