These folks are all over the board with their ideas.

Water boarding seems ok.  Cutting off foreign aid to some countries seems ok.
Is there a common theme regarding foreign policy?  Which candidate, if any, seems to be the most realistic in a 2012 world?

8 Thoughts to “Another Republican Debate”

    I love the idea of starting all foreign aid at $0. That’s sexy. Of course the argument one always hears is “It’s just 1% of the budget”. I can’t for the life of me figure out how that’s an effective argument, but every other bozo considers that a valid argument. I bet one could find 20 “1%” issues…..that’s 20%. The “1%” argument is so unbelievably easy to shoot down and nobody seems smart enough to take the shot at it.

  2. You lost me at the 1%. Fill us in with more detail.

    Just saw a piece on are there too many debates? Seems some of the potentials are feeling there is no time to be out stomping around States as they are always debating.

    I won’t speak for Slow but I think what he’s saying is that 1% of our total federale expenditures is ‘Foreign Aid’. People make the argument that if it’s only 1% (0.01 on the dollar) than why worry about it? It’s small potatoes. Now, if you get enough of those small potatoes and put them together (grab 20 of those 1% expenditures) and cut them. You’re talking about REAL savings to the taxpayer.

    When people say why worry about it it’s only 1%.. It reminds me of the crude conversation between two young adults of the opposite sex and one of them saying, “It’s ok, I just want to put the tip in.”

    It’s those “1%’s” that are screwing America not the guy’s making 350K/year.

    I’m sick of the debates. Give them an open forum. Do it over a an entire day. They each have 30 minutes to speak. NO questions. They get to make the case. Only requirements – 50% domestic policy and 50% foreign policy. Bonus points for recognizing and explaining how there’s really no difference in the two.

    Obama won the foreign policy debate. The American people give Obama high marks on his handling of foreign affairs, especially the destruction of bin laden, his al qaeda netowrk, and the victorious conclusion of the Iraq war.

    As for foreign aid, I’ve no problem reevaluating all of it, especially aid to Israel. But the kooky Christians are some of the strongest advocates for foreign aid to Israel. Don’t ask me why, something about the heralding of the second coming and Israel. So blame foreign aid on the kooky Christians.

    @Starryflights
    How do you feel about that aid that goes to Egypt, since you are worried ESPECIALLY about the aid to Israel?

    And kooky Christians? Really? You want to go there?

    Yep. He used the procedures already in place to go kill Bin Laden….procedures that he wanted to get rid of. Yep…he’s killed some terrorists……not many, but some……but he’s surrendering the field to them in the long run…so there’s that….Afghanistan. He’s assisted Al Queada in taking over a country after committing acts of war against a country that did not threaten us….Libya. He’s advocating the targeted killing of American citizens. That’s nice and controversial. His DOJ has committed acts of war by running guns across the Mexican border. He’s ticked off our traditional allies…England. Iran’s laughing at him. Russia and China are helping Iran. He’s insulted Israel’s prime minister. He’s allowing the State Dept to use over 10,000 mercenaries for security in Iraq.

    And he has 99% of the press covering for him. How long did it take Fast and Furious to hit the press? The insults to Israel? Libya – no outrage.

    Of course he’s getting high marks. The press isn’t reporting the bad stuff unless its dragged kicking and screaming into the sunlight.
