The Cain Train is derailing again as yet another woman steps forward to proclaim having had a 13 year affair with married-man Herman Cain. This news can’t go over too well with the base. However, most are keeping a stiff upper lip.
Most people can get by with an indiscretion or two if and only if they haven’t bashed others over their marriage behavior. Cain has been a basher so he will have a harder time overcoming the long string of women who have voiced some form of impropriety.
Poor Rick Perry misspoke and said the voting age was 21. Give the guy a break. He misspoke. Picking at Perry over misstating the voting age is petty. His gaffe was small potatoes and very forgiveable. Perhaps the voting age should be 21.
Meanwhile, Newt equivocates and says he wasn’t a lobbyist because he didn’t need the money. He charged $60,000 a speech. Does this offend anyone? Mr. Sell a Speech. Make no mistake. Newt is an insider. Newt makes more per half hour than a truck driver in South Carolina makes in a year. Twice as much as a matter of fact. He makes $20,000more in that half hour than a registered nurse or elementary teacher makes in a year. There is just something wrong with his arrogance.
Does Newt’s selling a speech offend me?
As opposed to Reagan’s cashing in as soon as he left office?
As opposed to Bush 41’s strong financial stake in things like the Carlyle Group that profited from his policies?
As opposed to Clinton’s wife arguing as a lawyer in Arkansas while he was sitting Governor?
As opposed to Bush 43’s profiteering off his dad’s name for his whole life, to include escaping military service, and staffing his own administration with people like Rumsfeld and Cheney who oversaw the funneling of many billions of dollars into no-compete contracts to firms they helped to found?
As opposed to Obama living in a house that he bought for half price because he provided political protection to a slumlord? As opposed to his pumping hard taxpayer money into things like Soylindra and LightSquared to reward campaign backers?
No. not especially.
Moon, according to your anti-Newt arguement you may want to go to a local sporting event – Nationals, Redskins, Wizards, Capitals – and boo hard against the home team as well as the away team. Even the scrubs on each team are making a lot more money than nurses. A guy like Kobe Bryant who is making 20 million a year is making about $50,000 per half hour of game time.
@Rick, that is another pet pevve of mine. However, the Caps aren’t asking us to vote for them.
As to whether Newt’s an insider, he is in a way. In another way because he’s so pathological and ego-driven, he’s not especially beholden to any particular interest.
He is self serving. I would say he is beholden to himself.
He is an insider as in he is no stranger to K Street and he knows his way around the Capitol.
How about Romney unable to substantially differentiate himself from Newt on immigration even though he jumped all over Newt after he articulated what I consider to be Newt’s reasonable approach to long term illegal immigrants?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/blasting-gingrichs-views-on-immigration-romney-is-fuzzy-on-how-his-differ/2011/11/30/gIQA9I8FDO_story.html
And how about Perry saying that he would “re-assign” Federal workers that don’t agree with his policies/politics?! I thought this was a free country?! Not under Perry I guess.
HI Twinad, there is some scary stuff out there, isn’t it? I wonder how the Perry plan would fit with the Hatch Act.
I wonder if Jack Kennedy or Robert Kennedy would have survived in today’s media environment. I suspect it would have been tough since both had a roving eye.
Blow jobs are better than no jobs ~ Herman Cain
Oh, wait. Too soon?
Probably too late, rather than too soon. 😈 9-9-9
What a pathetic bunch of goons and misfits. Where do they find these people?
Starry, it does make one wonder.
I will miss them as they go by the wayside.
I would rather see Rick Perry than Newt. That guy has an ego the size of Kansas. I was listening to him bragging this morning that he destroyed communism. News to me!
You are so right, Starry.
Where DID the Democrat Party find Obama?
What’s amusing (or not) is not that these guys are goons or misfits but that the electorate is thinking seriously about electing one to replace the current placeholder.
I find it rather telling about many things.
I have rarely been so entertained by politics.
I heard a good one this morning:
The problem with the “Cain Train” is there is too much steam on the windows and not enough in the engine!
#pokie,
that is classic. The one I made up was dirty. sigh.
The repugs would be better off nominating a department store mannequin to run against Obama; at least it wouldn’t make stupid gaffes!
We have one, his name is Romney.
So Cato, who is the man? Please don’t tell me Eye of Newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog.
@Cato the Elder
Good one!
@Starryflights
You are sooo right, Starry! We wouldn’t want President Obama and VP Biden to have any competition in the gaffe department. No sirree!
@Moon-howler
Looking at someone’s past record of performance as a predictive factor as to how someone will perform in the future has served me pretty well in life. If you take an honest look at all of the records involve here you’d come to the conclusion that Huntsman’s is pretty damn good. (unless you’re a arkingBay oonbatMay, of course)
Although I do confess that a Newt vs. Barack debate would make for fine entertainment. I wonder if Newt would make him cry?
@Cargosquid
Do you really think McCain/Palin would have done any better than Obama/Biden? If so, I want to know what your are smoking/snorting/etc.
@Starryflights
They found them under the same rock where they found “W” and his daddy.
No one answered my question about the Kennedys.
Stupid gaffes, like “Corpseman”? Like “57 States?” Like “the English Embassy”? Like those gaffes?
McCain/Palin wouldn’t have done any better, no doubt about that, it just would have been bad in a different way. Listening to McCain and Graham argue for the “throw any US Citizen in Gitmo at will” provision in the Defense Authorization Act made me sick to my stomach.
@Pokie, I couldn’t have stood Palin’s voice. I would have to have deafened myself to shut out the sound.
@Cato,
I have always been pushing Jon Huntsman. All I got was people holding their noses.
I think he is very qualified. He needs to hang in there. He has what all the others lack…no real flawed spot plus experience in foreign policy.
As for the Kennedys, I don’t know. They lived during a different era.
Mrs. Cain didn’t know Herman was friends with Ginger White. He will talk to her on Friday. It sounds like he was just this generous older man who helped a poor lady out,
Mrs. Cain is a lovely lady but a real chump. What I find interesting and so predictable is that she is a lovely lady, and has for more class etc than any of Herman’s stable-mates.
Why would he do this to his family? Was he just another power hungry man who thought he was so special he wouldn’t get caught? Moron! yours isn’t any more special than anyone elses and you will get caught. I just hate what he’s done to a lovely woman and kids. No one needs that kind of national embarrassment. And yes, I am assuming at least some of it is true. No one has that many accidents.
What’s the real reason I think he is a lying dog? The sexually harassed ones convinced me. He has a ‘type.’ Once I saw that….done….stick a fork in him.
My point about the Kennedys–they probably wouldn’t have survived.
I agree about Huntsman, but his biggest problem–nobody knows who the hell he is despite being in the debates and he doesn’t seem to have any “fire” in his belly. Very lackluster. Too bad, he would probably be a good candidate, for a Republican.
The fact that he has good deportment and carries himself as an adult rather than a horse’s ass like some of the others might end up eventually being to his credit.
That’s a point you have there…..eventually. Everyone else has had their turn at bat, maybe Huntsman will, too!
I think the idea that people seem to want to be entertained by their president speaks badly of Americans. Well, they have been entertaining, if nothing else.
Kerry had a similar problem. Would you really have wanted to have a beer with him or George Bush? I would have chosen George Bush each and every time to go dri nking with. (Forget that Bush didn’t drink at that stage of his life…this is theoretical.)
Here’s Huntsman’s problem in a nutshell: the path to victory in the primary means you 1.) need to be “not Romney” and 2.) willing to attack the President and call him incompetent, socialist, etc.
Being the shrewd little jackal that he is, Newt figured this out early on and not only uses the debates as a platform to launch vitriol at Obama but at the secondary targets of the “elite” and the MSM.
The problem is that Huntsman worked for Obama, and therefore this line of attack is not open to him. To do so would be a tacit admission that he worked for a commie/marxist etc. whatever, and the other candidates would be all over him like piranha.
@Cato
I totally and completely agree with you.
Its a shame because Huntsman really is an unabashed conservative. He is just not an ideologue, which to me is a good thing. He puts his brain behind things rather than just gather ing sound bytes. I feel Huntsman is really the most qualified person out there.
Well, it ain’t over yet….Huntsman just may have a chance yet to show his stuff. You lefties have to understand that Michael Moore hops into bed with Huntsman, we’re scared to death to even look in that direction!
As far as Mr. and Mrs. Cain go, Cain’s finished, but so far the ladies who have come out against him have all had extremely shady dealings…being sued by their business partners, being constantly in financial trouble, getting kicked out of residences due to lack of payment. There is a definite pattern with his accusers. He was fun while it lasted.
@pokie, let’s look at it from another perspective—did you think the Sunday School ladies were going to be having affairs or piccadillos with Herman Cain? Their shady dealing scale doesn’t make it true or false. It probably just made him more bold.
There are just too many accusers to brush off. The question becomes, do you care?
Yes. If your own wife can’t trust you on something simple and basic like keeping your snake caged then how am I supposed to trust you with the budget?
@Cato the Elder
You’re real close Cato, but don’t you think it’s a little deeper than the budget? How about the man’s whole character to include his veracity? Of course, it didn’t keep Bill Clinton from being president and there will be others– even disgraced Newt Gungrich, serial adulterer, liar and who knows what else believes he is presidential material–some guys know no shame!
