Real Law Breakers in the Penn State Scandal

The mother of Victim 1 (as reported in the Grand Jury Report involving the Sandusky case) spoke with the media behind a distorted voice cover about her son.  She discovered his behavior going from great kid to awful.  He asked strange questions about finding perverts on the internet.  He asked her to lie to Sandusky if he called.  CNN reported:

The mother of the boy said she first got clues that something was wrong when her son’s behavior changed.

“He went from like being a perfect 1,2,3, magic child to being ornery and being arrogant and mean,” she said. But when her son asked her to lie to Sandusky when he called the house, she became suspicious.

“Then, out of the blue, one day he was sitting at the computer and wanted to look up ‘sex weirdos.’ He asked me ‘What’s the website you get on to look them up?’ And I told him it was Megan’s Law. And he said, ‘Well, how do I type it in?’ So, I gave him the web address and he typed it into the computer and I said, ‘Who are you looking for?’ and he said ‘Jerry.’

That is a rather damning remark.  The mother continued:

And he was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know. I just want to see if he’s on there.’ I said, ‘Well, why would he be on there? Do you have something you want to tell me?’ and he was like, ‘No.'”

Asked what was going on with Sandusky, the boy answered, “Sometimes he just acts weird. So I just wanted to see if he was on there, that’s all.'”

Student President of Texas University calls Obama Assassination ‘Tempting’

From Huffingtonpost.com:

Lauren Pierce, the president of the College Republicans at UT Austin, said on Twitter Wednesday that the idea of assassinating President Barack Obama was “tempting.”

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Pierce posted, “Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”

The tweet came hours after police arrested a man for firing shots at the White House, leaving two bullets in the executive mansion.

Pierce joked that “it must be a slow news day” after ABC News posted a story on her comment:

Pierce told ABC News that the comment was a “joke” and that the “whole [shooting incident] was stupid.” Giggling, she said that an attempted assassination would “only make the situation worse.”

“Insofar as she’s a representative [of the College Republicans], maybe it shouldn’t be said, but she’s made a positive statement in a way,” said Cassie Wright, the group’s vice president.

“I don’t really see anything wrong with it,” Wright added. “It’s just a personal comment, not representative of any group. Just freedom of speech, you know?”

Does Pierce just live in some sort of moral vacuum?   I am going to boldly step forward and say we just don’t make jokes about assassinating anyone, especially our leaders.   This young woman has a great deal to learn.  If she doesn’t stop down from her leadership position, either the local Republicans or the university need to remove her.  I would feel the same way if Pierce were a young Democratic campus leader and suggested the same for Bush.  Just not done!

Paul Clement to defend health reform

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Paul Clement was attorney general for exactly one day in the Bush Administration. However, that is not his claim to fame.  He has argued more cases before the Supreme Court than any other lawyer in the past decade.

The day that it was decided the Supreme Court would hear the health care reform case, guess who was being treated to dinner by Paul Clement’s law firm, the one that would be arguing the case?  Justice Anthony Scalia and Justice Clarence Thomas.  Do they not feel attending this dinner gives a vision of impropriety?

Obviously not.

Colonel Morris Davis goes to court

Is anyone wondering what is happening with Moe’s lawsuit?  Find out here in the Washington Post article:

Appeals court hears case of ex-Gitmo prosecutor fired from Library of Congress over writings

The continuing saga of Moe Davis continued as he went to court on the 10th of Novemeber  to continue to battle the  forces of evil.  Moe sort of explains the nature of our blog, just by his very existence.  Who else to you know who has managed to piss off both the Bush and the Obama administrations?  Who else can take a shot at both and still maintain a sense of humor?

That’s our Moe!  Give ’em Hell, Moe!

[and yes, over-use of continue intentonal.]

Gloria Cain defends husband to Greta

Last night Greta Van Susteren interviewed the wife of Herman Cain, Gloria. Gloria was delightful, but the interview was painful. Those pointed questions that no wife wants to think about, much less answer, were simply awful to hear. At what point are questions like those just disrespectful?

Certainly anyone who comes along to this point in a presidential race is going to stand by their man.   You don’t make it to the cameras if you are going to throw your man under the bus.

I have never been one to protect men from this kind of interrogation.  I have always believed the “where there is smoke there is fire” theory.   However, by George, I will defend their wives.  Most cases like the one Herman Cain is being accused of end up being “he said/she said.”  In the end, we never really know.  What we believe depends usually, on whether we like or don’t like the person.

Gloria Cain deserves better.  Take that one to the bank.

O’Reilly’s Lincoln book banned from Ford’s Theater

From Politico:

Bill O’Reilly strongly defended his best-selling “Killing Lincoln” book on Monday after the Ford’s Theatre bookstore refused to sell it because of alleged historical inaccuracies.

The Fox News host told POLITICO that the attack on his book about President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination is “a concerted effort by people who don’t like me to diminish the book.”

The alleged mistakes by O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard start in the prologue and are found in other places in the book, according to Emerson’s analysis published in The Washington Poston Saturday. O’Reilly claims Ford’s Theatre burned to the ground in 1863, but it actually happened on Dec. 30, 1862. He writes several times over that Lincoln held meetings or sat in the Oval Office — a nice image. It turns out, however, that the West Wing’s Oval Office wasn’t built until 1909, during President William Howard Taft’s administration, Emerson wrote.

Should it matter if the book contains inaccuracies?  None of us were there.  How about the book that claims the Grand Canyon was part of the great flood and is only 6,000 years old?  That book got to sit right in the Grand Canyon book stores.  I saw it with my own eyes, several times.  I think a book like that is far more damaging than O’Reilly’s book that might have an inaccuracy or so.

I bought the O’Reilly book as an audible.  I haven’t listened to it yet.  I was curious about what he had to say.  O’Reilly’s historical street cred is fairly good, while not adorned with academic honors, he has taught the subject.  If it were too academic, the average Joe, including me, probably wouldn’t want to read it.

Who has read it and who will read it or do we just trash it on the say-so of Ford’s Theater?

Mobile Pet Adoption Van Arrives in PWC

From Supervisor Mike May:

It’s here! P.A.W. Express, Prince William County’s new Mobile Pet Adoption Van, has arrived.

The 26-foot van, purchased by the Prince William SPCA with a $154,565 PETCO Foundation grant, is being housed at the Prince William County Animal Shelter and will make its public debut at the Animal Shelter’s Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 10, at 2 p.m. The van has the capacity to hold approximately 26 animals, and has roll doors that allow the animals to be viewed from the outside. Walk-through capability will allow potential adopters to meet the pets in the van.

The custom-built van will be used to increase adoptions of pets at the Prince William County Animal Shelter. The van will also assist in relief efforts of companion animals in crisis and serve as a transport vehicle to a spay/neuter facility.

Another Republican Debate

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

These folks are all over the board with their ideas.

Water boarding seems ok.  Cutting off foreign aid to some countries seems ok.
Is there a common theme regarding foreign policy?  Which candidate, if any, seems to be the most realistic in a 2012 world?

McQueary on indefinite leave

Mike McQueary, the graduate assistant who testified to seeing Jerry Sandusky rape a 10 year old in the shower was supposed to coach the sidelines for the Penn State/Nebraska game on Saturday.  That has all changed.  First McQueary was told he wasn’t to coach on Saturday because of death threats.  As of Friday night, he was placed on indefinite leave.

The press originally described McQueary as a graduate student.  The picture painted of him made one think of some little nerd who just happened to trip over this horrible scene in the shower rooms.  That picture was rather disingenuous.  Mike McQueary was the starting quarterback for Penn State during the 1997 season.  In 2000, he joined the staff as a graduate assistant receivers coach.  He never  worked for Sandusky, who had retired before McQueary came on board as an employee.

The Horse Soldiers of 9/11

The Daily Caller:

It was the news the world breathlessly waited for immediately after the 9/11 terror attacks: a report of the first American troops on the ground in Afghanistan.

All at once the world’s attention focused on an iconic photo of those Special Operations Forces doing something no American military had done in nearly a century: They rode horses into combat.

Their secret mission: secure northern Afghanistan by advising the warring tribal factions that formed the Northern Alliance. During the 2011 Veterans Day Parade on November 11, a new monument to these men — and to all Americans in uniform — will make its way down New York City’s famed Fifth Avenue on the way to its final home, a stone’s throw from Ground Zero.

Military men and women, along with New York City firefighters, policemen, emergency responders and other marchers, 50,000 in all, will escort the monument on its televised journey. The spectacle will feature members of the three original Special Operations teams — some on horseback, others walking alongside surviving spouses of fallen heroes.

Retired Army general and current CIA director David Petraeus will be among the parade marshals. Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer is producing a future movie about America’s “Horse Soldiers.”

Sgt. Reckless-Korean War Horse Hero

Not all our vets have been human.  Reckless makes Traveler, Little Sorrel, Comanche and countless other horses look like ‘also rans.’

Reckless was definitely like the little engine who could.

She was retired at the Marine Corps Base in Camp Pendleton where a General issued the following order…she was never to carry any more weight on her back except her own blankets. She died in 1968 at the age of 20.

h/t, Reckless
