Ron Paul is spot on. Who is Donald Trump and why does he have such holding p0wer over the GOP? To most of us, Donald Trump is a rich blow hard with extremely bad hair. Yet many of the presidential wannabes seem to be flocking to pay him homage.
According to Politico:
Fresh off snubbing Donald Trump by refusing to participate in a debate he’s moderating, Ron Paul blasts his fellow GOP presidential candidates for paying the billionaire businessman so much credence.
“I don’t quite understand the marching to his office,” Paul said on CNN’s State of the Union this morning, referring to the parade of presidential candidates who’ve met with Trump in recent months. “I didn’t know he had the ability to lay on hands and anoint people.”
Paul rejected the debate invitation by deeming Trump beneath the presidency, while Trump released a statement saying Paul is “clown-like” and “willing to lie” and “either very jealous of Mr. Trump, stupid, or a combination of both.” The debate is scheduled for Dec. 27 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Host Candy Crowley asked Paul why his relationship with Trump turned so rocky, so quickly.
“He probably doesn’t like my position on the federal reserve,” Paul said. “It may be, deep down, philosophic … and his personality that doesn’t like to be challenged.”
Earlier this year, Trump himself had an extended dalliance with a Republican presidential run, ultimately deciding against entering the race.
Jon Huntsman had a similar viseral reaction to the Trump intrusion:
Every time I hear Trump, he is ruder, more aggressive, and more hateful towards others. I would hope that the presidential wannabes would start giving him the royal snub. He is a huge, egotistical nobody.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say Trump is a nobody, he’s dead right about several points of foreign and domestic policy, but Paul is almost always right without fail. And he’s right here, too. Having the presidential candidates line up for Trump looks VERY publicity-stunt to me.
Outstanding! Kudos to Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman. I’ve been leaning toward Ron Paul for my primary vote but will take a closer look at Huntsman. As with most Republicans, Romney is my second or third choice, but I would consider voting for him if he looked like the only Republican who could help President Obama with early retirement planning.
I absolutely cannot stand Donald Trump – never could. He’s a joke, and a lousy businessman. He’d be a low level, never heard of flunky if he hadn’t had his dad’s money to start his career. He’s done a miserable job of investing it. Trump is an embarrassment for the Republicans and all of them should follow the lead of Paul and Huntsman. Beware of egotistical blowhards. Moon – I know what you are thinking now.
I just read on CNN that this Trump “debate” is being held in conjunction with “Newsmax.” I know many MH readers are not Fox fans (I like a lot of what Fox does) but if you look at Newsmax I think we will all agree that it makes Fox look like the “NY Times” or the “Washington Post” in credibility. Newsmax is nothing but rabid anti-Obama propaganda, as opposed to intelligent discussion of why he should not be reelected. They promote numerous investment scams, often employing scare tactics to bilk people out of their retirement money. Some of the same people who comment on Fox, such as Forbes and Morris, are also associated with Newsmax but they seem to hold their craziest stuff and biggest scams for Newsmax.
I’m not surprised that Trump is involved with this but am very disappointed to see Gingrich associating himself so closely with Trump and “Newsmax.” I have not been a big Gingrich fan, but this seals it for me. I’ll be voting for Paul, Huntsman or Romney.

I didn’t really care about the LAST debate with the AG’s moderating enough to convince my wife to change the channel. Apparently no one else did, either. There were no recaps to be found in the blogosphere.
THIS debate is a joke.
Its time for the RNC to say, “Enough with the debates. Get on the campaign trail and make speeches, etc.”
If a voter doesn’t know which candidate they like by now….then they haven’t been paying attention.
@Cargosquid
I agree with you about the number of debates. DH and I had watched at least parts of all of them except the AG moderated one. I couldn’t find a recap for that one even when scanning the news much less blogs. There will have to be some fireworks to keep people interested.
NTK did a nice summary on Trump.
@Need to Know
Thanks very much for alerting us to the Newsmax component of this story. I would have never picked up on it had you not said anything.
And yes, I do think Trump is an egotistical blow hard. I cannot stand to even hear his voice. Gingrich always has wallowed with hogs. It seems to be a habit he finds hard to break.
Cooch posted the entire video on his Facebook page. I was annoyed that the lower tiered candidates we’re getting rough and leading questions while the “front runners” got tossed soft balls.
Would’ve been a waste of my time to have actually watched it live.
Which video, marin?
You and I might have one of those earth on its axis days where we agree.
I didn’t know he had risen to that level. I must have missed the memo.
Newt made the trip to NYC to kiss the Donald’s … let’s say ring … yesterday and laud him as “an American icon” before the TV cameras. Of course the two have a lot in common: a couple of rich guys who between them have taken the sacred vows a half-dozen times (so far) and are currently married to women 23 years younger than them. If experience counts they must be experts on family values since they’ve had so many families to enrich their experiences. Of course Obama failed to say “God” in the taped version of his Thanksgiving Day address (something both Bush and Clinton did, too, but I suppose that’s just blaming Bush … again) so clearly he has no values.
I’m pretty sure it’s frigid here in hell because I just agreed with Mo.
BTW, did y’all catch the Pokemon reference Mr. Cain used to get out of Dodge?
@marinm
“I’m pretty sure it’s frigid here in hell …” You know, they are calling for snow tomorrow night.
Now, there’s a guy who sounds truly presidential!
I believe he is a comer, I really do. Because it’s a looooong way from
here to November 2012. Smart move to stay away from publicity hungry
Trump & Co.\ Come to think of it – doesn’t he have a new book out – again?
Marin, double freeze because I just agreed with you (and with Moe but that isn’t rare.)
I still say Republicans need to take a good look at Huntsman. He would be my ideal conservative candidate.
Well, Romney just dissed Trump, too…..apparently it’s the fashion. What’s happening is that Trump is getting into an ego-trip against Huntsman and Paul, and he’s shooting his mouth off like a lunatic, which brings the whole thing into the gutter. I have, however, heard some scuttlebutt in certain top-secret parts of the Web about what to expect in the Iowa/Trump debate:
The smart money is on Bachmann to win the swimsuit competition, although I think it’s dismissive to write off Gingrich in a bottle-green banana hammock.
The talent portion will hold some nice surprises: Santorum is supposed to pull two new wars out of his a$$.
Bwaaaahahahahahah
You are in rare form today Pokie.
Huntsman was on with Hannity tonight and he, Huntsman, was good, very good.
As I said – Huntsman is a comer.
Huntsman who?
So what do you not like about him , marin?
@marinm
You’ll find out soon enough!
