So far, we don’t know what the left will come up with. I expect that SNL will have at least one good Newt sketch.

Remember, Newt is the guy who screwed around on at least 2 of his wives because he loved his country so much and plus he was working too hard.

Let’s go back to Newt being ok because he came clean. Oh PUH-LEEZ. What has Newt been honest about? Leopards don’t change their spots. I never thought I would be agreeing with the preacher but this has been a strange week. I agreed with Slowpoke a few times and then Steve defended Obama while I ripped in to him. I guess it is only natural that I should expect to start agreeing with evangelical preachers.  Yes, I do get queasy when the earth tilts wrong on its axis.

Just out of curiosity…again…how did the Catholic Church get past the fact that this dude has been married 3 times?  They must be handing out them thar annulments alot easier than they did 40 years ago.

A refresher course on the Return of Newt.

View You’re a Mean One Newt Gingrich.

17 Thoughts to “Newt catching it from the left and the right”

  1. George S. Harris

Money buys a lot of pardon in the Catholic Church and annulments!

  2. Ray Beverage

Keep in mind annulments came around because of a political manuveur by Pius IX at Vatican Council I. Politics breed politics.

What I find just deplorable is the number of ‘good catholic couples’ who stay married to each other because the church dupes them into thinking that is what they are supposed to do. I have known several women who spent their entire lives with drunks who got liquored up and beat the women senseless every so often. These women thought they would go to hell for leaving their husbands. How wrong is that?

My own paternal grandmother never divorced that I can find a record of. I don’t know if my grandfather was physically abusive or what the story was. My father didn’t even tell my mother. I never knew the grandparents as a couple and neither did my mother. Again, this is abnormal.

You either have a rule and everyone goes by that rule or do away with it. It shouldn’t be just for rich people.

Gingrich has embraced as many different religions over the course of his adult life as he’s embraced wives. He was born a Lutheran and stayed one until his late 20’s when he got baptized and became a Southern Baptist. He abandoned the Baptist Church to become a Catholic in 2009, the religion of his second mistress and now third wife. My favorite Gingrich contradiction is him saying Barney Frank should go to jail for supporting Freddie Mac. To my knowledge, Frank never made a dime off of Freddie Mac while they larded $1.6M on Newt for what he at first said was his expertise as a historian. He should be called Chameleon instead of Newt because he can change his skin to match the need of the moment to try to ensure his survival.

It takes over a year to convert to Catholocism. Tony Blair is another prominent politician that converted late in life. You may be right that a leopard cannot change its spots, but it took a significant commitment in time and effort for Newt to convert. This is not the same thing as Slick Willie’s overnight mea culpa after he got caught. So I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s not to say that I have decided to vote for him, but I have not eliminated him either (especially since my other choices seem to be Romney and Huntsman).

I also do not see anything wrong with Gingrich accepting money for lobbying as a private citizen. Lobbying has a bad name, but much of the technical information needed by Congress comes from lobbyists.

Hey! Its now OK to like Newt. Glenn Beck hates him! He’s a “progressive.”

Says that if we vote for Newt instead of Obama, its only because of race because they are otherwise identical.

So, apparently, Net is a on old fashioned mainstream Republican.

  6. SlowpokeRodriguez

I think it’s pretty widely known that Newt is a mainstream Republican. Sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi is all the proof you need. Yeah, he admitted it was stupid, but you know he’d do it again. I like Newt because he doesn’t just take it, he gives back twice as good as he gets. How can you not like a guy that makes Pelosi’s butt (or mouth) pucker up after her “I’ll give you all the dirt you need on Newt” comment? We like Newt because he’d embarrass Obama in a debate so bad it would be awesome!

  7. SlowpokeRodriguez

Attacking Newt on his wives my favorite tactic. After Bill “Kiss It” Clinton, it’s a real sound argument to make!!

  8. SlowpokeRodriguez

Hey, maybe Newt wrote a Master’s Thesis that offends somebody! Creigh Deeds for President!

  9. Cargosquid

If Newt can handle Glenn, who is an admitted political opponent…..maybe he can handle the rest of the press. And, if you read his answers, its obvious that he is NOT a “reduce government” guy like Paul, but is a “more efficient” gov’t guy. He’s a Reagan Republican….kinda.

But, then ALL of the candidates are pro-gov’t. Even Paul. He loads up the pork and then votes NO when he knows that the bills were passing.

(Um…this isn’t going to make your site explode or anything, Moon…is it? I mean having Newt AND Beck together in one post.)

  10. pokie,
You all have positively sophomoric political views. Is best debater necessary best leadership? I think not.
Clinton isn’t running for president. I wish he would. I would vote for him. How can you compare leaving a wife and kids not once but twice to daliances?

Don’t most people who convert take a fairly long time of study before they do the ‘cross over’ thing? I remember it being a fairly lengthy process as a kid. I don’t think Bill Clinton simply did a mea culpa. I don’t think we know what happened within his family, nor should we. It is between him and Hillary and should remain there. The fact that they are still a family along with Chelsea speaks highly of all of them. Many families would not have survived all that, especially with that much public humilition involved. The fact that it will always go on, mainly because it is part of this nation’s history and culture, thanks to those who wanted to make it so, It cost this country a fortune to prosecute Clinton. The funny thing is, he was popular enough to survive it all. Too bad the entire lets get Clinton was so distracting. Who knows what else could have been avoided if no much attention weren’t on doing away with Clinton.

  11. I don’t think Newt is a thing like Reagan. Reagan was at least likeable, even if you didn’t agree with him or think that ketchup was a vegetable.

  12. SlowpokeRodriguez

    Moon-howler :
    pokie,
You all have positively sophomoric political views. Is best debater necessary best leadership? I think not.

You sound like a Rick Perry ad, there! Having a leftie call my political views sophomoric is not really a put-down, you know.

  13. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
I believe that the Clintons are more of a business arrangement now. Divorce would hurt both of them.

  14. Second Alamo

All personal problems aside, shouldn’t we elect the best leader? I know that a person’s background outside of their role as a political leader is difficult to ignore, but then it hasn’t affected Obama all that much. If a person makes horrible family choices, but has fantastic decision making abilities when it comes to leading a country, then we need to understand the job description of the presidency a little better. We will never find a saint to govern the country, and even if we did he would be chastised for being too conservative! Lets focus on the job description, and leave all this personal BS out of the equation, and out of the public eye as has been done in generations past. Focus on leadership, as that’s what is terribly lacking in DC.

    1. @SA

I agree somewhat with what you say. I don’t agree that not nowadays someone would be chastised for not being conservative enough. More like the opposite. I have said all along that Newt’s multiple marriages don’t really affect me. The problem I have with it is his criticism of others over doing much less. Now that does disturb me. If he would make a great leader, I could ignore even the hypocrisy. But he wouldn’t.

  15. @Cargosquid

Why would divorce hurt the Clintons?

I don’t think either one of us knows the real status of their marriage.
