Deputy House Majority Leader C. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) said Tuesday night that he “regretted” his “insensitive comments”earlier in the day about abortion being a “lifestyle convenience.”
“Abortion is a sad and deeply serious occurrence,’’ Gilbert said in a statement. “Individuals on both sides of this issue agree that it is tragic for all involved. I recognize that few women undergo the procedure lightly. It leaves scars, both mental and physical, that can last forever. I regret that my comments earlier today on the House floor were insensitive to that reality.’’
What was that Elena said about a war on women? What further proof do we need? How dare this arrogant man speak of “Lifestyle Convenience?” How dare he!
I feel so betrayed tonight. My grandfather’s family were Virginians back in the mid-1700’s. My grandmother was a member of the DAR, her family were Virginians. My people were here before there was a United States. Yet tonight I sit here, as a grandmother myself, wondering what has happened to my state. Who are these men who came marching in here and decided what they thought was best for the women of Virginia? These dumb asses will be vanquished. Sic semper tyrannis
Outrageous. I notice that Gilbert is bald. Is male baldness a lifestyle choice as well? If so, I think it should be illegal for males to be bald.
Listened to Morning Joe after dropping the kids off at the bus stop, the conversation revolved around the absudity of Virginia male republicans and that McDonnell, due to his extremism on womens issues, will surely sacrafice the governship to a Democrat next election. Lets pray that happens. The damage to women in this state due to the extreme actions this Republican led legislature and Governor is frightening to me.
Moon, my Scottish-side of the family came into PWC in 1725…Thomas G. Beveridge settled in Brentsville and actually gave part of his farmland to where the Courthouse is over there.
I heard from a lady lawyer friend they are waiting patiently…if this gets signed into law, she and several of her fellow lady lawyers are going to mount a charge. Being a Native Virginian with long family lines, I kidded her to pull a “Mosby’s Raid” and she laughed saying that was a good name for their plans.
@Starryflights
Considering the top of my head is bald, guess I represent that remark 🙂
Ray,
Please make sure you tell your lawyer friend there are many of us wanting to support such and endeavor!
Hee hee. I’m not a native Virginian. My father’s relatives were here before there was a United States but (cough, cough) they fought along side the British.
I’m truly embarrassed to be a Virginian at this point. Mississippians seems have more sense than we do. I always looked at Virginia as a state that could be proud of most of its history and the leaders it had produced. Despite the civil rights violations it inflicted on many of its citizens, it gave us the first elected African-American governor. The crew that is in charge now would probably have told mary Sue Terry to go home and bake an apple pie. Bah.
I’m thinking that women will be so fed up that they’ll help Obama sweep the state again.
@Censored, I think one side of my families might have been tories also. Maybe even a horse thief or two. Maybe that was an old family joke. 🙄
@Ray Beverage
All kidding aside, give the ladies my name and number. Cindy has all my info.
Virginia women are furious!!!
I think you have a few years on me as a Virginian, Ray.
@Ray Beverage
I think Starry is young and doesn’t have some of the issues the more senior contributors have. 😈
My comment was directed at Gilbert, no one else.
LOL! Gilbert is more shiny-head than I for sure!
If pictures are to be believed, I would agree, Ray. Gilbert looks like the cartoon character chrome dome.
