Spring is pretty much here once the daffodils bloom. Mine have been struggling since the beginning of February and finally came out over last weekend.
Its already staying light past 6 o’clock and day light saving time starts next Sunday. Oh happy day.
What signs of spring in your neighborhood?
The hellebores are in flower and the sarcococca scent the air. The dogs will probably trample the daffs before they bloom. The frogs are in the pond and have already laid their eggs.
What are hellebores and sarcococca?
@Moon-howler
Some scientific name we wouldn’t know. lol They might be native to her neck of the woods. Sounds like there lots of activity out that way.
Hellebores = Lenten rose
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellebore
Sarcococca = Sweet Box (ought to make the juvenile males giggle)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcococca
I don’t know what is blooming right now, but the pollen is killing me. Nose is running like a stampede, and if fells like Gnomes threw little ninja stars into my eyes. I’m eating antihistamines like the are pez candies.
@Censored bybvbl
It made a middle age man giggle as well.
Yesterday there was a frog show in the little part of Sugarland Run not far from my house.
Neighbors brought their kids to see the activity and hear the excited croaks. Spring has sprung, for sure!
@punchak What were the frogs doing? Tree or pond frogs?
Steve — I am having the same problem and gobbling pills, snorting, scratching my eyes and making my eye make up go all over my face. this has been going on for over a month. I think it is tree pollen.
Censored–I think I have that first thing you mentioned growing off my deck. I didn’t plant it. I always thought it was a mayflower but guess not.
I have a bed full of periwinkle….Warsaw Periwinkle.
@Moon-howler
Gotta check on what kind of frogs they were. But according to my daughter, who was there, they, the frogs, were mating like mad. Water foaming!
@Moon-howler
Is mayflower the same as mayapple? I haven’t checked those yet. The dogs have probably trampled them as well. Hellebore freely seeds. If your neighbors have it, you probably do too.
If you need any plants, let me know. I’m going for low maintenance and I’m going to mulch the trails the dogs have made. The damn dogs think they’re greyhounds. They bolt off the deck and race for the far fence. The terrier cuts through the mondo grass to beat the border collie and then they do several figure eights while chasing each other. I can finally see their paths and plan around them.
Any good deals on mulch Censored? I have given up on grass. I was thinking about the large hardwood chips for the mulch carpet. The boy scouts my friend Connie uses only have shredded hardwood. I like that they deliver and place on locaation.
punchak, I have never seen frogs mate.
@Moon-howler
I’ve only used the shredded hardwood bark before so I’ll have to get a couple quotes before I buy. I think one of the nurseries near me has closed so I’ll have to expand the search. My friend buys mulch by the truckload but she’s got a truck and I don’t. I’m not going to put it down until most of the perennials have come up so I can relocate them.
Engelbert Humperdinck is UK Eurovision act for 2012
The 75-year-old, dubbed the “King of Romance”, is best known for his 1967 hit Release Me, which kept The Beatles’ Strawberry Fields Forever off the number one spot.
The singer said it was “an absolute honour” to be taking part and was “excited and raring to go”.
This year’s competition will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 26 May.
The song Humperdinck will perform has yet to be announced but the BBC said it would be recorded in London, Los Angeles and Nashville.
It will be written by Grammy award-winning producer Martin Terefe and Ivor Novello winner Sacha Skarbek, who co-wrote James Blunt hit You’re Beautiful.
Humperdinck – who was born Arnold Dorsey – has sold more than 150 million records worldwide during his 45 year career.

Do you mind if I go on a rant here?
I’m glad the Brits have decided to go with somebody with some, you know, talent to represent them at this music fest. Although Humperdink was before my time and is not really my musical taste, he at least can hold a note without it having to be digitally scrubbed. I am so SICK AND TIRED of the electronic-sounding Katy Perrys and Gagas and whoever else is popular these days. I listen to classic rock now, or country, although even country nowadays sounds like pop. Hope Englebert wins!
And to illustrate what I am talking about, at the 2011 Eurovision, something called “Jedward” represented Ireland, which is basically two guys with parallel Jimmie Neutron haircuts appearing to sing together something called “Lipstick.” I can’t even tell if they’re singing or even if they’re real people and not just a CGI effect. Ireland gave the world U2 and other fantastic artists, so it’s depressing to see what they’re producing now. You can see this “Jedward” thing below:

Anyway, end of rant.
Rush issues apology to Sandra Fluke: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/03/03/a_statement_from_rush
In a pragmatic move, he realized that as advertisers fled and took their money with them birth control was not going to be much of an issue for him … a cigar-chomping broke uneducated fat guy who’s had 4 wives and a drug problem is not going to be doing a lot of scoring.
This sure was erratic behavior, even for a megalomanic. I wouldn’t be surprised if the apology was punctuated by rehab.
That’s a likely scenario and an easy out for an entertainer–“The (drugs, drink, sex–pick your poison) made me do it!” Surely the advertisers wouldn’t be so coldhearted to abandon him now!

Every community has something to “celebrate” — I guess.
@Moon-howler
Check your email. One of my predictions has come full circle. I’m lovin’ it!! 👿
On facebook:
Annabel Park
9500 Liberty the feature film is finally available for free online on snagfilms. It just went up. Check it out. Would appreciate you taking the time to rate it as well.
You mean the ‘Coffee Party’ Annabel Parks? Talk about past events. She’s old news, and the ‘Coffee Party’ is history also. Might as well bring up the fact that http://www.libertywall.blogspot.com is still hanging around, but hasn’t had any comments since 2008. I think I’ll pass.
SA, the documentary 9500 Liberty was just screened two weeks ago (Feb. 22) in the Rayburn House Office Bldg in DC, followed by a discussion that included Congressional staffers, policy experts & advocates for and against comprehensive immigration reform.
Hardly gathering cobwebs.
http://www.wtop.com/?nid=120&sid=2771835
Sad.
@Second Alamo
Actually the coffee party is not history, SA. Where do you get your information from? I believe they are very viable. I am not involved but several users here are.
Some people might like to get the movie. Its FYI. It is only a matter of time before the Dream Act passes. Hopefully it will be soon.
“Alarmed by a climate of fear and racial division, residents form a resistance using YouTube videos and virtual town halls, setting up a real-life showdown in the seat of county government.”
Uh, no, that was Annabel and Eric with their amateur “gotcha” journalism homework.
Don’t know about those statements, Emma. I posted the information because periodically I have people contact me about the film. They can go self serve now. That’s the most I can tell them.
Love them or hate them, you have to admit that Eric and Annabel have been been an effective voice on the immigration issue. They have brought the story of what happens when communities forge ahead without listening to all the citizens. You know, if nothing else gets remembered, how about that $30k Corey SQUANDERED inviting people to Citizen’s Time and then tried to not let them speak.
It illuminates the waste involved in discretionary funds and how they can be abused.
Thanks for the chance to point that out. It fits right into one of our current agendas I wish I could get to except I have been kept too busy over reproductive rights which is sooooo 60’s. (the 1960’s I might add)
All that went down years ago. It is history, not current events. I haven’t seen any demonstrations in several years, and even the signs are gone across from the train depot. Coffee Party……………haven’t seen that name in the media lately, but then I don’t go searching for it either. Just when things seem to be getting back to normal someone has to try and stir the pot again. BTW, did anyone visit the tired libertywall site?
You mean to say that the immigration resolution didn’t take place at 9500 Liberty, SA? Shocking!
No, it took place when people woke up to find other people marching in the street demanding their rights only to find that many of those same people were in the country illegally. That’s how it all got started. The crap going on at the Herdon 7-11 got many peoples attention also.
SA, I don’t recall people marching in the streets except that day up near McCoart. I am going to go out on a limb and say I bet we didn’t know who was here legally and who wasn’t.
That’s the darn problem with America. Anyone here has freedom of speech.
Naturally, someone wants to stir up an old argument, probably to take the heat off of the latest reproductive rights issue.
Fight it out amongst yourself. That is really old news. I saw the information and snagged it up. Some of our readers are actually in the film and don’t own a copy.
What’s this about Eric Cantor staffers coming to blows? Supposedly his head spokesperson resigned. Any info on that?
You can’t tell who the criminals are by looking at them either, but I’ll lay odds there are criminals in our midst. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t attempt to weed them out anyway.

Want to carry this precinct? Pass out dog biscuits.
Mr. Howler just went to vote. Sigh. I am doomed to get R robo calls now.
@Steve Randolph too funny. That might work in Herndon. Isn’t that where everyone brings their dogs to the polls?
I don’t know what would happen if I took my mutt to the polls. I would be afraid he would lift his leg on a pile of campaign literature. No doggie treats for Jackson!
Before anyone asks…I name my male dogs for civil war generals, since we live near the Battlefield. I have also had a Stoney and I have a Jeb but it’s a middle name. There is also Cousin Mosby but he is a granddog.
Egads!
Dow lost 200 points today!
What happened to our wonderous bulls? Did they get “greased”?
And where did all those nasty bears come from? Iran? China?
I don’t know what happened to our charging bulls, Big Dog. I am lamenting our losses right now. It has been a bad week. Is it Iran? I don’t know. Usually the ‘experts’ tell us it is a correction. Enough correcting already.
Maybe Apple will blossom tomorrow with ipad 3 being announced. One more thing…..
Any money I made recently that I was going to set aside for a new ipad just got trampled by bears.

A note of condolence to my truly batshit-looney lefties out there (and you know who you are!) on the primary defeat of Dennis “alien abduction” Kucinich. As an idealogical leader of the left, he will be missed. I hear half of PMSNBC is on suicide watch.
Huge CME on 3/7/12. Big magnetic storms brewing. Lots of aurora activity over Michigan and Wisconsin last night. Could it get to us? Keep your eyes open.
@SlowpokeRodriguez
Is there medication for whatever ails you, Pokie? No one knows what you are talking about, probably including yourself.
Whatever happened to that rule of law thing anyway?
Who IS Dennis Kucinich, anyway?
The Apple Ipad HD conference
http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/123pibhargjknawdconwecown/event/index.html
Fabulous.
Are you referring to that weird congressman? I don’t know. Friend of yours?
@SlowpokeRodriguez
Had no Internet access today but heard second hand that the People’s Official State Network (MSNBC) had hosts openly weeping over the loss of their token progressive.
Makes my heart warm.
@marin, I have had msnbc on all day and have no idea what you are talking about. I don’t think you are familiar at all with MSNBC. Please give me names and places. Otherwise, you are just pulling stuff out of thin air.
Awesome concession speech!
And in other news, Bawney Fwank was banned from speaking on the House floor for one day. What do you suppose they do for laughs when that happens?
pokie, are the kids keeping you up at night? Why are you hell-bent on being irrelevent today? No one really knows what you are talking about.
“Maxine Waters, please report to makeup. Ms. Waters to makeup STAT.”

Easy to see the I-95 “necklace” in slide #10.
Has anybody heard that today is “International Women’s Day”?
I thought so. Heard fr a friend in Turkey, who received flowers fr her husband
to celebrate The Day!
