Tonight there was a candle light vigil complete with song at the Governor’s Mansion.  The demonstrators held candles, sang, had copies of petitions signed by thousands of women to be delivered to Gov. McDonald.  Their song must have fallen on deaf ears as much as their protests of the last month did.

Richmond Times Dispatch:

A handful of uniformed Capitol police officers are present. There is no sign of officers in riot gear, as in Saturday’s protest in which 30 demonstrators were arrested after they refused to leave the Capitol’s steps.

Organizers of this evening’s vigil say they did not need a permit because they are not on Capitol grounds, but on the street behind the mansion.

McDonnell is not in town this evening. He is attending a fundraiser in Northern Virginia for Rep. Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican.

So McDonnell signs an bill into law that requires an unnecessary medical procedure and then leaves town?   Why is he meeting in Northern Virginia with Mike Pence?  Is McDonnell trying to find some more repressive laws to pass onto Virginia women?  Mike Pence is best known for his war of misinformation on Planned Parenthood.

Does that mean that Gov. McDonnell is now turning pro-abortion?  Ewwww.  Bob.  I assume anyone against contraception is in favor of abortion.  It’s so much better to prevent unwanted pregnancy in the first place.

Gov McDonnell is a chicken. He doesn’t have the guts to look his constituents in the face.

  2. I don’t know if he is chicken or not. I think he simply doesn’t give a crap. he has satisfied his base, at least in his own mind, so he can now go out and be the political animal he would like to become. Pence seems like a good place to start.

The man wants to be Vice President, not the Vaginal Prober. Romney wants to shore up that base. However, in courting McDonnell, he now risks losing the moderates who loathe what McDonnell did about the ultra-sound bill. Does that make it a wash? Time will tell.

What was he supposed to stick around for? Riots?

It is fun to watch the left lose their minds over this. Here’s the booger, though. My looney-lefty friends would have my unwavering support in their outrage over this if their anger wasn’t so selective. See, if you love government intrusions that go your way, you must embrace the government intrusions that don’t go your way. Government intrusion is government intrusion. You want government involved in healthcare? You got it!! Feds AND State! So I’ll just sit back and smile while the left jumps up and down in anger and hope that someday a couple of extra neurons will fire and they’ll figure out that any government intrusion is bad,not just THIS government intrusion. Wake me up when that happens!

    1. @Oh Slowie, its been involved in health care. What on earth do you think Medicare is? How about medicaid and schips? Where have you been.

Did your neutrons just not allow you to see that?

I have a subtitle for the thread! The Lights are on but Nobody’s Home: An Intellectual History of the American Progressive Movement.

Slow, funny on #5 and I agree on #4. I actually dislike the idea of a forced sonogram (but I understand that the states do have that power unless the People limit them).

Again this goes back into the idea of… “Stay out of my bedroom (govt) except pay for all the stuff in my nightstand.”

    1. Think insurance. marin. Think insurance. That’s what is wanted. People want to have contraception as part of their insurance. The state of Virginia mandated that Virginia policies include autism treatments. This is really no different. Its all about health care.

In life we all make choices. Company A may cover fertility. Company B may not. I really want fertility coverage but I also really dig the cute blonde at Company B.

So, which company do I work for? *I* have to make that choice..

Health insurance is a benefit for employment with a specific employer.

    1. Most people do not have that choice. Most people in this country are lucky just to have a job. We are coming out of recession. Additionally, Marin, many people do not have that option because of pre existing conditions. Some people are stuck on the job because they cannot get other medical coverage.

Certain basic coverages should be present regardless of the company. Now for specialty stuff, I can see paying extra and getting a cadillac policy. But the basics should all have the same coverage. That is what most Americans want.

Wealthier Americans can pay for private rooms, tummy tucks and specialty medicines. That’s ok also. Not everyone is entitled to rehab in the desert and private room with internet. But that isn’t health care.

Basic coverage should be for all Americans. Glamor or special coverage can be what the more affluent have. My mother paid Lord knows how much extra for a policy that allowed her to have a private room if one was available. It cost a freaking fortune but it was her money. I thought it was a horrible waste. The woman wasn’t rich. Far from it. She also told me it was her money and she would spend it as she wanted. Guess she told me.

“Basic coverage should be for all Americans.”

Americans on the whole are not in favor of single-payer/Government HMO coverage.

Your mom was a very wise lady and I can sense that loved what this country used to stand for – freedom, liberty and personal responsibility.

    1. Marin…and one more thing…

People get sick regardless. Sometimes they are hospitalized. Someone pays. If the people are insured, their companies pay. If they aren’t insured, either govt pays or….YOU pay. Who do you think pays when there is no coverage? YOU PAY. Isn’t it better to have the people paying?

If they are on Medicaid, YOU are paying. If they go to the hospital with no insurance, who pays? YOU pay.

      Don’t you get it?

That’s the thing about Government healthcare. The Vaginal probe comes with Medicare. They both come from the government. State and federal, true, but government the same. Lefties will never understand that, though. Pity.

    1. @pokie, I really don’t think you know enough about medicare to know that.

Your argument is losing sight of the real problem whichis the state govt. creating laws that mandate unnecessawry medical procedures for women seeking abortions.

    @Moon-howler

“If they go to the hospital with no insurance, who pays? YOU pay.”

If that’s true why have insurance at all? Everything is taken care of.

After all we can reduce the cost of healthcare a lot if we just federalize the healthcare workforce — federal doctors, nurses and technicians. We could run it as well as the Veterans Administration.

    It’ll be grand.

    1. Marin, you pay. The hospital has to raise its costs and your insurance company gets billed. The insurance company raises its premiums on you. Unless your company pays for every penny, you are going to feel the pinch. I first noticed that when I had my first child. IU called up and complained that I had been charged $2.15 per tylenol 3. That is when I found out the bitter truth. That is how some of the uninsured get covered. That’s a lot of tylenol 3.

  11. marinm

    @Moon-howler

What is the purpose of me keeping insurance if someone else will pay for my services anyways and I don’t have to pay a premium?

Doesn’t make me a sucker to pay for insurance premiums when I can just have you pay your premiums and pay for me?

    1. Only you can answer that. Having insurance gives you choices. Not having it means you don’t have choices.

“Brawndo’s got what plants crave! It’s got electrolytes!”

  14. Regardless of the jokes made, there are plenty of people in Virginia who resent the new laws that are make to make abortion less accessible to women. The increased cost also makes the procedure less accessible.

The real injustice is that the very people who want more restrictions on abortion are generally cheap so and so’s who don’t want allow funds to help out women who can’t afford to have children. That goes from the WIC program to the free and reduced lunch program and all those in between. What they will say is that they just shouldn’t be having sex. Well…since when has saying that worked? It doesn’t.

Makes you wonder what mankind did for the, oh, 100,000 years or so after 50 or so of us walked out of Africa up until US Government came along to take care of everyone!

HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHHAA.. One of my FAVORITE movies…

Classic. I have a work friend that is desperatly trying to convince me to vote for Romney because he’s the lesser of two evils. Firstly, I told him a flat out NO. I refuse to vote for evil. Secondly I told him to watch that movie.

“Only you can answer that. Having insurance gives you choices. Not having it means you don’t have choices.”

But, by using your logic if no one has insurance than all healthcare is FREE, right??
