Do you agree or disagree with Morning Joe Scarborough? Things got real quiet around here when that police house video got posted. Why must the death of Trayvon Martin be political? Why must it be a conservative vs liberal side?
Are people being fools?
@marinm Sad, but true.
Emma, last thought. Your comments remind me of the last few para’s of VDH’s musing.

The problem?
There are millions of Americans who do not buy into the above paradigm. Millions of whites were born decades after the civil rights movement, and do not believe, rightly or wrongly, that they are privileged on the basis of their race. They came of age in the era of affirmative action, do not discriminate or tolerate discrimination, do not wish to utter the repulsive N-Word, and, to be candid, often have experienced first hand inordinately high black crime percentages. (My first two experiences with violent crime were as a graduate student in East Palo Alto in 1975, when an African-American male tried to break into my apartment with a bat, and when two African-American males tried to knock me off a bike and steal it.) For millions, then, the notion of collective guilt is less palatable. Millions of others are Latino, Asian, or of mixed heritage. In their view, fairly or not, they too do not accept many of the above premises: they do not see their apostasy as racism, and charges of racism cause them little worry. Nor does a growing number of blacks see their fates as predicated on the degree present of white racism.
In other words, we are left with the following paradoxes: the traditional civil rights industry will see the Martin case as an indictment against America, one deserving of compensatory and reparatory action from the majority, which they are prepared to oversee and adjudicate. The majority, of citizens, however, sees the current civil rights hierarchy as much of the problem with, not the solution to, the Martin tragedy. No, it is worst than that still: the Martin case has evoked renewed interest not in disproportionate rates of black crime alone, but in the civil rights leadership’s apparent lack of concern about it.
And Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman?
At this writing no one yet knows whether an edgy neighborhood watch bully gratuitously provoked an incident and shot an unarmed victim, or was himself pounded to the pavement, when in self-defense reaching for a weapon to ward off his assailant—or neither of the above scenarios or something else still.
And increasingly few sadly seem to care to find out.
Had a few folks not sprung into action no one would know now or care either. It was being blown off. Actually,. the writer is not shy about stereotyping at all.
Why cite all the race statistics? I don’t see where they matter in this case. We are talking about 2 people. Had Trayvon’s death not been blown off, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
There is no point in lining up behind the racial divide. At some point in time, America is going to have to have this conversation.
There are good whites and bad whites. There are good blacks and bad blacks. There are good Hispanics and bad Hispanics. There are good Asians and bad Asians. There are good middle easterners and bad middle easterners.
Until we start evaluating people on the content of their souls, we really haven’t arrived as a nation.
Actually, I don’t give a rat’s ass what Zimmerman is nor do I care what race Trayvon was. That case was sloppy law enforcement. Just sloppy. Had it not been so sloppy, we would have never even known about it.
@marinm In one post, you managed to expose the utter hypocrisy that is the central theme of this thread–that it’s specifically conservatives who have gotten political over this incident–” Why are some on the right taking this up as a cause?”
Seriously? Who’s been trying to pound it into our heads that Zimmerman is actually white? Who’s been demanding review of the “stand your ground” law? Who immediately assumed a racial motive? And which POTUS injected race into the discussion with a single comment? Once again, the left falls all over itself like it did with Jared Loughner, and then pointing the finger at the right for “politicizing.”
“This is beneath contempt”–what a sanctimonious twit.
At what point are we going to address that the minute you draw your weapon you are escalating an event into another level.
I am haunted by the sounds of that horrible phone call where you can hear cries for help. It should have never escalated. Zimmerman should have minded his own business (since he said he wasn’t out patrolling) and waited for the police to do their job. That right there should be reason to hold him.
We don’t live in a cowboy world.
Exactly, we left the wild west long ago, an entire century as a matter of fact!
The case has gone to the FBI now.
Wolfinger is who pulled the case according to TV. I think someone knows where some bodies are buried or else organized crime is involved.
The only things I know that make stuff like this go away are 1. knowing the right politician 2. organized crime
What other explanation is there? I repeat…I don’t care who is what race. Something is rotten in Florida. Again.
