Do you all look at www.bing.com? It has great maps and about once or twice a week it posts fabulous pictures that can be used as background or wallpaper. When I see ones I like, I do the old right click thing and save.
Today’s Bing pic is a favorite. I recognized it immediately: Glacier National Park. What a fabulous place to spend a few days! The main feature of the park, other than its mountain goats and special tour cars is Going to the Sun Road, which is an engineering feat in itself.
What neat vacation spots can you think of that aren’t your ordinary trip to Ocean City and the Outer Banks? Leave your secret hideaways here and tell us why we should go. Meanwhile, don’t forget to check out bing.com.

Reducing defense spending is a non-partisan issue … at least for folks out in what I heard an attractive lady with brown hair and an odd accent call “real America.” The only talk you hear of spending more comes from the politicians of the Romney/far-right faux-patriot variety.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/romney-wants-defense-spending-to-be-much-much-higher-the-public-doesnt/2012/05/15/gIQA3xn5QU_blog.html
Here is one where Boener agrees that the debt increases because of the Boomers. Me, A Tea Partier – hardly, as I do not agree with the whole agenda or tactics.
We need defense cuts.
But we don’t need the budget balanced on the back of Defense. We need ACROSS THE BOARD cuts. And some common sense in defense spending. Cancel the LCS program. Its a boondoggle.
And the defense cuts? What cuts? It’s cuts to an expanding baseline. NOT real cuts. The budget does not shrink.
I’ll even take a budget freeze. No increase in spending.
Anyone know that quote from the Annointed One about keeping the insurance you have because Health Care reform won’t break anything?

@Cato, The bears sure are making applesauce. Yea, I am pissed. It will bat round for a while, I am told.
Is this the one you’re thinking of?
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI and other church leaders said it was the moral responsibility of nations to guarantee access to health care for all of their citizens, regardless of social and economic status or their ability to pay.
Access to adequate medical attention, the pope said in a written message Nov. 18, was one of the “inalienable rights” of man.

I guess some of the flock here in the USA need to fall in line then!!
Do you suppose we should ask Alito, Roberts, Scalia, Kennedy and Thomas to recuse themselves since they will naturally be doing the bidding of their church on the health care issue before the high court?
A loss to Prince William County:
Occoquan Magisterial District School Board member Grant Lattin submitted his resignation to the Prince William County School Board on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. The School Board will be announcing plans to fill the vacant seat.

The majority of the students are under the age of 26, so they can now remain on their parents plan – hence, no need to offer insurance to the students. As for the Faculty – if you want to attract and retain good Faculty, they better offer a benefits package that is worthy, otherwise, the Faculty will flee to other institutions.
Census: Minority babies are now majority in United States
By Carol Morello and Ted Mellnik, Updated: Thursday, May 17, 6:45 AM
The Washington Post
For the first time in U.S. history, most of the nation’s babies are members of minority groups, according to new census figures that signal the dawn of an era in which whites no longer will be in the majority.

Seems as though Allen wouldn’t base judges on their sexual orientation. Quite the contrast to his opponent Del Bob.
http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2012/may/17/george-allen-sexual-orientation-shouldnt-factor-qu-ar-1920495/
Bigoted Bob was just on CNN explaining to the world why a gay judge is not qualified because he would let influences other than his public duties under the law bias his decisions. Remember the days when you tried to hide embarrassments? Now we elect them to the Virginia legislature.
@Morris Davis
Yikes!! This guy just keeps getting re-elected. I hope he gets his ____ handed to him, in the primary. I can not for the life of me of understand, where one’s sexuality has jack to do with their understanding and ruling on the law.
I have NO representation living in the new portion of the 13th.
@Morris Davis
He also preaches for peace. It’s a lofty goal and we should all inspire to live in such a utopia. But, life outside of Vatican City doesn’t really work that way – does it?
You forgot to grunt out something sublime, like “This…Good”
@marinm
I don’t have a clue how things work in Vatican City, I just know that with the exception of the Pope’s view on health care being a fundamental human right (or what you guys call socialism) the Vatican has disproportionate influence on all branches of government at all levels.
@Chris
Totally agree, Lafayette, totally agree.
I am also a victim of non-representation.
We need to be hustling up someone to run against this bigot.
I keep reading where these guys aren’t bigots….yea. Just ask them.
I listened to Lingamfelt’s speech. He is so full of crap.
marin, you don’t like my gun thread??? I thought you and Cargo would be giving me the secret handshake at least.
FYI- N&M’s web page is reporting that they are being purchased

@Steve, I saw that. I like being their boss, even a fractional boss.
My investments have been clawed up also. We need to get some bear spray.
Woe to you oh earth and sea, for the bears have set upon you with great fury because they know their time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the bears, for it is but a few points away, at S&P 1290.
GROWL…wolf trumps bear in the end.
Uh-oh….Trayvon Martin was smokin’ some bud.
@Moon-howler
I was in the People’s Republic of Alexandria all day. Sorry. I’ll take a look.
@Morris Davis
When you say disproportionate levels what are your comporables? Number of people? Number of voters? Number of non voters? Number of religions?
I saw a blurb about Michelle Obama and a flag but didn’t catch the story. Anyone have any insight??
Here, I found this for my pro-gay marriage friends who are outraged about the judge. Watch and Learn!!

That is pretty bad! When I was in college homosexuality was listed as a mental illness in the psych books.
This film obviously confuses pedophilia with homosexuality. Creeps come in all orientations.
The Sheriff of Nottingham is now taking comments. I was first.
This is something worth discussing. I will start a thread here but the Sheriff has the nitty gritty.
Let me suggest an article by a friend, Carl Prine, who is a veteran and a writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune and for Military.Com. It describes the scars of war you don’t see the way you do a missing limb. It also describes the maddening frustration of trying to deal with the VA, which I can attest to from personal experience. In any event, Carl’s article is the kind of thing many of those who say “we” should engage in total war with Islam or “we” should invade Iran don’t think about, but the men and women who have been the “we” the past decade do and it reflects why they are getting tired of it.

Has everybody seen the new information about our President? Until 2007, his bio read that he was from Kenya. Even HE said it.
http://www.theospark.net/2012/05/in-his-own-wordsfrom-rico.html
The following quote from Barry, tracks nicely with this theme, and IN HIS OWN WORDS he admits not being eligible for the Presidency.
“…This report explains the context of the oft cited debate, between Obama and Keyes in the following Fall, in which Keyes faulted Obama for not being a “natural born citizen”, and in which Obama, by his quick retort, “So what? I am running for Illinois Senator, not the presidency”, self-admitted that he was not eligible for the office…”
– Of course, AP and the rest of the media kept whores are playing deaf-dumb-blind to all this.
I blame the corruption and incompetence of the press. AND I blame Obama.
SOMEBODY is lying.
This is an extremely offensive link. We don’t want that kind of trash here.
@Moon-howler
What’s an offensive link?
Mine?
I linked directly to a non-offensive opinion/new piece. This has been in the news.
The author’s verbiage may be over the top…but it was the only place that I’ve seen that also had a pic of Obama’s student ID.
And, he’s also no worse than Bill Maher.
I linked mainly to show the source of my statement. It has been posted on other sites. THAT is the part I was interested in showing…the new controversy.
@Cargosquid
Cargo – The only portion of your rant I can agree with is the “SOMEBODY is lying” part. Just because something is posted on somebody’s blog doesn’t make it a fact. If you look at the “foreign student” ID card you’ll see it is dated 1981. That’s a pretty hi-tech student ID given the state of technology 31 years ago. Pasted below is a link to an announcement from Columbia University when they instituted these cards. It comes complete with a link that showed what the new card looks like, including the introduction of a barcode that was supposed to make transactions around campus easier. The announcement of the new cards is dated 1996. So not only was Obama a Kenyan he apparently had a time-travel machine too that enabled him to go 15 years into the future to get a student ID that didn’t exist in 1981. And now that I said “Obama had a time-travel machine” on a blog someone can cite it as a fact in the next round of right-wing conspiracies to try to undermine the President.
http://www.columbia.edu/cu/record/archives/vol21/vol21_iss15/record2115.14.html
@Morris Davis
Cool.
Notice that I did not do anything but point out that a new controversy had arisen. However the biography that states he was from Kenya lasted until 2007. AND Obama attended Columbia as a foreign student. So was he lying then, or now?
I believe that he was born in Hawaii. So…….either he committed fraud or he was born in Kenya.
@Cargosquid
Cargo – The biography shown in the blog you cited is from a catalogue a literary agency prepared in 1991 when Obama was an unknown working on a potential book. The person who wrote it said:
“This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me–an agency assistant at the time. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.”
To recap: The ID card was a fake and the bio was an error by a literary agency assistant, so the controversy is contrived and there is no proof whatsoever for your claims about Obama … of course, don’t let that deter you.
One more thing about the blog article you cited as your source document. I’m tired of right-wingers and their “Hate-America-First left” smear. I wouldn’t have spent 25 years defending a country I hate. What I hate are ignorance and thuggery being used by people trying to hijack patriotism and title to the country.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/born-kenya-obamas-literary-agent-misidentified-birthplace-1991/story?id=16372566
Standing ovation @Morris Davis.
I am not going to argue with you over why it is offensive. It is. Period.
Furthermore, you know that we don’t want things like that on this blog, in particular statements without source and who call people who voted for Obama stupid and lazy.
I am neither.
