22 Thoughts to “Gotcha? Roll that tape again! Prioritize enforcement? Faux News caught in the act?”

  1. Once again Faux News intentionally puts the wrong message out there by truncating an existing video. The Prez explained that you just can’t change the law but you can prioritize how a law is carried out, in this case. Faux needs to become an honest broker.Bush, Bush, Clinton and Reagan have all tweaked immigration policy for humanitarian and economic needs of the country.

  2. Elena

Gotta love FAUX news. Nothing like distorting reality.

  3. Except that giving illegal aliens work permits, allowing them to apply for jobs legally, and refusing to deport them is not just “re prioritizing.” Otherwise, why was the Dream Act fiasco necessary in the first place.

Furthermore, just because THEY selectively enforced laws does not make it the right thing to do. That’s part of the problem.

  4. George S. Harris

    @Cargosquid
As Ronald Reagan said to Jimmy Carter: There you go again.

  5. marinm

First time in history that a President can claim he provided more jobs to foreigners than to legal citizens! Way to go!!

  6. @Cargosquid

Reagan, Bush 41, GWB, and Clinton tweaked immigration policy. Why are you all just picking at Obama?

Many people think it is the right thing to do. I definitely think it is the right thing to do.

I have come to the conclusion that only mean spirited people really want a valedictorian deported.

Why do you have so much against kids who are here through no fault of their own?

marin, I have already just said I think your parents, especially your mother, didn’t slap you enough.

  7. marinm

The O did score a win here. Like I said. Congress doesn’t have the man sack to stop this.

The GOP was caught flat-footed as seen in Romney’s non-responses.

The only saving grace is that this program does not grant citizenship but allows illegals to stay in the US at the pleasure of His majesty. Which is to say that a President could, in theory, take every illegal that applies for a work permit (picture ID that requires a picture and a fingerprint) and then round them up for deportation once another President reverses this policy.

    Good plan Senor Presidente!

    1. I am going to go out on a limb and say that no one should be able to grant citizenship to any other person. Any foreign born person should have to apply for citizenship and go through the necessary step that everyone else goes though.

The GOP should not have been caught off guard. It has been discussed for years, dating back to the Bush years. Frankly, I am not sure what took so long.

People need to note that there are qualifications that have to be met. This isn’t granted to everyone in the age group. I expect the details are still being worked out. The people who will qualifiy for this “deal” probably wouldn’t stand out in a crowd and even look like they were illegal immigrants.

Marv, stern look regarding choice of words.

I would hope that anyone applying would have picture ID and finger print. That should be standard for almost anything we do.

  8. @Moon-howler
Um… because he’s the President? And I wasn’t happy about the others either.

    @marinm
    Ya know…I hadn’t thought of that…. 😉

Also, its highly convenient that this needs to be “renewed” every two years….making sure that the Latino voter market will be tied to whoever promises to renew this abomination.

This is nothing more than political pandering, trying to tie the Latinos to the Democrats, especially since the President came out for gay marriage. They had to do something. Of course, Obama’s administration doesn’t mind getting Latinos killed by US government supplied weapons from Fast and Furious.

    1. Fast and furious has nothing to do with the new illegal immigrant policies. NOTHING at all. That basically was just an sh*tty thing to say. It mainly deals with Latinos on the one hand. I seemed to hear something about keeping PHD students in country after they are finished coursework also. Hmmmm…could that be for Asians mostly? I guess he wants the Asian vote also? Asians are generally conservative voters from what I have been told. Actually, mostly anti communism.

      @Cargo

You are just shotgunning insults at the president while not really liking the choices before you.

He did something that needs doing. It is the right thing to do and it will help our economy.

  9. marinm

    @Cargo

    Check out http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0612/77554.html

MH, I was going to email it to you but my stupid phone wasn’t cooperating with me today. It doesn’t ‘remember’ you. I need to jog its memory with a few well placed kicks in the flash drive; if you know what I mean..

“But what the president did not do is also important. Nobody will be handed a permanent resident card, commonly called a green card. Nobody is being promised citizenship or is being put on a path to citizenship.

And, importantly, you have to come “out of the shadows” and apply for your EAD card. You must register. The card will bear your photograph and fingerprint and a number that allows you to be tracked. You also have to pay your taxes.”

So lets say Obama gets another 4 years. He can’t make them citizens as that requires Congressional approval but he gets a solid voting block for a time. Fast forward 4 years. Electorate is really PO’d because hope and change has only brought us unemployment and misery so we vote in someone that is “right-wing” (even to me) and that person says it’s a great thing that we have all these EADs because as Red Dawn showed us.. If you can go to the sporting goods store and get ATF 4473 you’ll know where someone lives……….

No hablo search and arrest warrant!!!!!!!

    1. I don’t think Congress can make anyone a citizen, can they? Isn’t that something , that if it doesn’t happen naturally, each individual has to apply for?

I hope that is the case.

I don’t necessarily want citizenship for anyone. In fact, I would be willing to deny citizenship for 20 year or forever to those who came here illegally. I want legal status for people who have something to offer. That’s all.

A green card doesn’t mean you can be here legally I dont think. I think it just gives you the right to work. I got all confused when that was an issue with carlos Martinelly’s family. They had green cards but were still considered illegal immigrants. That’s when I gave up thinking I knew anything at all.

  10. Elena

Don’t we want people “out of the shadows” . Seems like a winning to move to me and finally relief for these kids.

  11. “He did something that needs doing. It is the right thing to do and it will help our economy.”

So, when a conservative President invents law to do something that needs doing and is the right thing to do, like…….figuring out a way to stop abortions, for example…… That’ll be ok.

Because people believe its the right thing to do.

Or would you rather that the President enforce the laws as written and passed?

As for the F&F…no it doesn’t have anything to do directly with illegal immigration, other than the violence being enabled by 2000+ guns smuggled to Mexico is part of the reason for the illegal immigration, the drug smuggling uses the illegal immigration, and most of the people being killed are Latinos.

But they’re not on this side of the border yet. Only the Border Patrol agents being killed by F&F guns are. So, it IS all inter-related. Those guns were sent into Mexico with the FULL knowledge that they would be used to kill Mexicans. Holder, et al, just didn’t realize that our agents were going to be victims of them. So, no. I’m not lobbing insults. THIS HAPPENED. I’m not being a partisan. I’m being a concerned citizen.

  12. @marinm
“Obama is saying to young immigrants who are in school, have graduated from high school or served in the U.S. military and have not gotten in trouble with the law: OK, you can stay. For now.

Further, you can travel on the passport of your country of origin (Mexico or China, for instance) and be allowed back into the United States.

And you will be given a card called an Employment Authorization Document that will allow you to legally get a job.”

Travel back and forth between the country of origin and return? But, I thought that these people were Americans? Why would they want to travel to their country of origin?

Really, how is this NOT defacto amnesty except for the need for to be renewed at the President’s whim, thus tying them to the President’s party. Oh, THEY won’t be able to vote…but their children will.

  13. marinm

No doubt it’s a de facto amnesty but the ‘feature’ that I like is we can instantly find all these illegals after the fiat runs out and we can begin mass deportations (of course after trial) because we have biometric information and a last known address.

Finally a use for those FEMA camps!

“Don’t we want people “out of the shadows” . Seems like a winning to move to me and finally relief for these kids.”

Yes. It’s like when the crazy axe murderer says “come out, come out, wherever you are.” He’s got a hidden agenda. 🙂

“I don’t think Congress can make anyone a citizen, can they? Isn’t that something , that if it doesn’t happen naturally, each individual has to apply for?”

The process for becoming naturalized is part of our public law so Congress does of course have a hand in it. If Congress were to declare that anyone that applied on the 3rd Tuesday of the month would get instant-citizenship — that’s what would happen.

Now Cargo brings up the point that while an illegal (now legally present for work purposes) has a child (child is a natural born citizen) that in 20 years we can expect a massive boom of applications for citizenship as the anchor babies are used to obtain citizenship for the parents (anchor baby is not offensive as I am one!)

“I don’t necessarily want citizenship for anyone. In fact, I would be willing to deny citizenship for 20 year or forever to those who came here illegally. I want legal status for people who have something to offer. That’s all.”

The problem of course is thats not how things play out in the long run. As Cargo pointed out once you let the camels nose under the tent…………

“A green card doesn’t mean you can be here legally I dont think.”

A green card means legal status including govt benefits like social security and healthcare.

My mom is a green card holder so she pays taxes, can get govt benefits, leave and re-enter the country, and own a firearm.

    But she can’t vote. 🙂

    1. One more time, marin, please stop saying “illegals.” I have asked before. It really is just disrespectful. I know they are called that on Fox News. That doesn’t make it right.

What kind of govt benefits can your mom get? That is what many people howl about. I feel if people have paid in, they can take out. What kind of paper work was the family of Carlos Martinelly given? They were given some permit saying they could work. I had thought it was a green card but if it was, then why weren’t they in the country legally? I am totally confused.

The camel’s nose is always under the tent. The problem is when you and many others who like to play unreasonable hard-ball with immigration, you go for low hanging fruit rather than after the real problems. That bothers me a great deal and I think it is cowardly. These kids have adapted to the world they live in and are an asset to the country. Yet you all want to make “examples” out of them and spout bull crap about ” sins of the father” and all that. Take care of those who are in gangs or who are committing crime. Hell for that matter, go fix the situations where 20 single men are living in a house built for 4 people. Those are the REAL problems of illegal immigration, not some poor kid or young person trying to better themselves.

Marin, my friend, you have had the good fortune of parents who wanted something better for you and your siblings. Have you ever thought about giving back just a little? Cargo, you just sound like an angry old white man. Marin, you sound like one too even though you aren’t. I am not sure which one of you irritates me the most on this subject. I am willing to bet I have spent a great deal more time with the young people than you all have. Perhaps that is why I see the good.

It isn’t a difference in political ideology. It is just being dog ass mean to young people who can help the country. marin, the only difference is one piece of paper work. BFD.

  14. Elena

    Cargo,
As a middle school counselor in a very diverse school in Fairfax, these kids were as American as any other child. I don’t know if all the kids with parents from other countries were here documented, but I sure as hell couldn’t tell the difference based on typical middle school behavoir. They were just kids Cargo 🙂 Struggling to fit in, struggling through friendship issues, and some struggling with serious home life challenges, like having enough food to eat.

  15. Elena

So Marnimn, how to do you reconcile your moms situation with people like Cargo. If you are an anchor baby, shouldn’t you and your mom be summarily kicked back to YOUR country of origin?

You enjoy the benefits of having your mom in this country, you yourself enjoy the benefits of being an American, but yet you are unwilling to work out a compromise for others? Seems like you are saying “I got mine, so why should I care about anyone else”.

I may be misunderstanding your position, and I hope I am, but I somehow don’t think so.

I actually beleive that if you came into this country without proper documentation, as an adult, you should be instantly disqualified from voting but still be able to adjust your status.

    1. Get out of my head, Elena.

And its easy to pick on kids and young people. Its bully-think.

  16. @Elena
    I absolutely agree.

But this doesn’t affect THEM. The statement says that they have to have been in HIGH school, GED, or joined the military (illegal) and been here for five years.

The cut of is 29. So, we’re talking about adults. Instead of stating that the age group is 15-29, lets make it 1-10. They have to have been here longer etc. If you want to “save the kids” then lets make it about kids. NOT adults.

  17. marinm

“One more time, marin, please stop saying “illegals.” I have asked before. It really is just disrespectful. I know they are called that on Fox News. That doesn’t make it right.”

You’re blog, your rules. But as I’ve said before amongst family the term we use is that one. It’s not a FoxNews term its one used in a home where a woman quite literally crossed the Rio Grande and evaded INS.

“What kind of govt benefits can your mom get?”

Anything you and I can get. The only things she can’t do are vote, hold office and be on a jury. Oh and if she ever commits a felony or serious misdemenor her card can be revoked by INS/judge and she can be subject to deportation.

“So Marnimn, how to do you reconcile your moms situation with people like Cargo. If you are an anchor baby, shouldn’t you and your mom be summarily kicked back to YOUR country of origin?”

I’m an American by birth. You can’t kick me out. 🙂 My mom is naturalized (legal). If she was illegal – like I’ve told her before “sorry mom, you got to go!”

“You enjoy the benefits of having your mom in this country, you yourself enjoy the benefits of being an American, but yet you are unwilling to work out a compromise for others? Seems like you are saying “I got mine, so why should I care about anyone else”.”

Yes, in a way. I think I can agree with that. Being an American is great, ain’t it?

“I actually beleive that if you came into this country without proper documentation, as an adult, you should be instantly disqualified from voting but still be able to adjust your status.”

Disqualified from voting only? What about social benefits? Medicare? Medicaid? Social Security? Holding office? Ownership of firearms? Driving licenses? What to you is the limit? What is acceptable for those not legally present in this country?
