The Newsroom is a new series on HBO.  It began a week ago and I forgot about it and didn’t watch until over this past weekend.  I thought it was great.  Story line with all the things we talk about here as the backdrop.  The lead actor like Steve Doocy and the female protagonist reminds me of Christiana Amanpour.  Other than that, it has great potential.  The reviews weren’t great hich as far as I am concerned, is a great recommendation.

The show is serious drama and lots of subtle comedy.  The associate producer also had a fit over someone saying “illegals.”  That made me smile.  No, it isn’t  a liberal show.  Everyone has a niche, at least they do so far.

Sunday nights, 10 pm HBO

You can also see it on HBOgo.com.  On demand is great.

6 Thoughts to “HBO: The Newsroom”

  1. So I guess I was the only watcher of The Newsroom?

  2. Need to Know

Moon. I might give it a try. Your description sounds interesting. Just haven’t had a lot of time to watch TV lately. Plus, our cable was out over the weekend. I’ll take that loss anytime over losing power, which we have been lucky not to lose.

Also, Mrs. NTK and I are in the process of watching all of the “Fringe” episodes again starting with season one getting ready for the fifth and final season starting this fall. We’ve got seasons one, two and three on Blu-Ray, and have preordered season four.

  3. I never grew to love fringe like I did Xfiles. I don’t know why. I have seen ever Xfile ever made.

So far I like this show. The topical aspect as a backdrop makes it interesting. The first was the gulf spill and the second dealt with SB1070. The event doesn’t dominate however.

You can watch it at HBOgo.com also. Great thing to have while down time at the office and appointments are late.

  4. Need to Know

I liked “X-Files” a lot too. However, it started to go downhill towards the end. I’m sort-of glad “Fringe” is wrapping up before it starts to go downhill also. They know the 15 episodes this fall are their last so they can finish the show properly. The reruns are moving to the Science Channel when the series wraps up, but we’ve got the Blu-Rays and won’t have to watch it with commercials.

I think I like “Fringe” better than “X-Files”, however. Walter is one of my all-time favorite TV characters. Our girls love Olivia. We let them watch but cover their eyes during the scary parts. One of ours now wants to be an FBI agent after watching the show. Peter is uniformly popular with the girls. Once, they commented something about Justin Bieber, and I suggested they continue to focus on Peter Bishop, who has an IQ of 190. They thought for a moment and agreed that they like Peter better than Justin Bieber.

  5. They like Peter better than Justin B because of his IQ?
That narrows the field a bit since 190 is rather….not realistic.

I am one of the rare people who like the end of Xfiles. I like the tie in with the Anasazis. I also didn’t start watching Xfiles at the beginning. I started a year or two into the series.

    Do you use HBOgo?

  6. Need to Know

Moon, sorry but I don’t know what HBOgo is. We’ve got cable and HBO now, but I haven’t done any of the add-on services. This is largely because we don’t have a lot of time for TV. When we watch something, we try to make it family time – either Mrs. NTK and I watching something, or something we can watch with the kids. I know there’s some way of watching HBO stuff on my iPad, but I don’t know what the point of that is. Sitting by myself watching a small iPad screen versus watching with the family on the big plasma doesn’t make sense to me. I guess that would be useful if you travel a lot.

When Mrs. NTK was expecting we were both hoping for Lisa Simpson instead of Brittany Spears. We pretty much got that with ours. They don’t really know much about what IQ means at this point, but they enjoy watching Peter on “Fringe” and I think are aware of the difference between high intelligence and brain-dead lip-sync singers. They’ve liked Peter since we started letting them watch “Fringe” (with their eyes covered during scary parts). One really sees Olivia as a role model. We’re trying to expose them to media role models that illustrate intelligence and accomplishment. Not much of that on TV these days, so we’re glad to have “Fringe.”
