Just when you thought there was no lower place to be, along comes Joe Walsh.
Huffington Post: (and lots of other places)
Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) on Sunday accused his Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth — a double-amputee veteran of the Iraq War — of not being a “true hero” because she made her military service central to her campaign.
After calling Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) a “noble hero” for downplaying his military experience during a 2008 presidential bid, Walsh shifted gears to Duckworth at an Elk Grove, Ill., town hall.
Duckworth lost both her legs after Iraqi insurgents hit her helicopter with a rocket propelled grenade in 2004. She is now challenging incumbent Walsh in Illinois’ re-drawn 8th Congressional district.
“Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about,” said Walsh, a Tea Party freshman. “Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about.”
Sunday’s event was not the first time Walsh mocked Duckworth for touting her military record on the campaign trail.
Shades of Saxby Chambliss. When a person has lots body parts in a war, its probably a good idea to go after the ideas of your opponent, not his or her valor. Mac Cleland went into severe depression ofter Chamliss and his supporters finished with him. Joe Walsh is simply a dog you know what. He is no gentleman. I am not sure he is human. Good for warrior Tammy Duckworth. May the force be with her. She is ten times the human being he is.
While I am on a rant, I heard many Republicans blasting John McCain over his war service as it related to him being a POW. McCain really didn’t talk about it all that much but the American people did. I was not a McCain supporter, mainly because of his choice of running mate. However, I got tired of having to tell Republicans off for denigrating him over his past and saying he wasn’t a hero. Yes, he was a hero. Does that mean you have to vote for him or even like him? No. but don’t ever take away for his bravery during captivity. I never heard one Obama or Clinton supporter bash McCain over that. Unfortunately, I did hear it from some local Republicans. Shame on them. Just hearing it from one is too many.
Joe Walsh and Saxby Chambliss are both asses. Joe Walsh of the Eagles should insist that political Joe D.D. Walsh change his name.
Good for the Howlers Blog. No one has tried to defend this AH!
See…its idiots like this that give politicians a bad reputa..nah. Its all their fault. THIS guy is in a class all his own.
What’s a dog d?
Personally I would have gone with douche. BTW this guy is a deadbeat dad as well – owes more than 100K in back support.
John McCain’s picture should be in the dictionary next to the word “hero.” He refused release from the POW camp before his fellow prisoners. The Vietcong found out how important his dad was and offered him release. He would not leave the others behind.
Totally agree, NTK. That doesn’t compel us to vote for him but it should compel us to respect him. I wanted to bitch slap those who were bashing him for his war hero aspect.
@Cato the Elder
Hint: only male dogs have them.
I love it when we can all agree! Why can’t he just say what he doesn’t like about her politics?
Just sent fifty bucks to Tammy!
I’ll send more later on. This guy is beyond belief!!!
Cheer Punchak!!!!! You go girl!
I just saw more of his quotes. I take back the idiot remark.
“She is a hero, and that demands our respect, but it doesn’t demand our vote. All she does, guys, is talk about her service,” Walsh said on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”
Apparently, the quote from MSNBC is out of context. He’s talking about how heroes downplay their heroics and service and his opponent does not.
So, I’m returning to neutral.
You are assuming he is telling the truth….that all she talks about is her service record. Even if she talks about her service record, that might not have anything to do with being a hero.
Why would you believe an idiot when they tell you they aren’t an idiot? I heard what he said also. Only an idiot would say that. I agree you don’t have to vote for heroes or war maimed but you do have to show them respect. The quote from msnbc is the same quote being seen everywhere. Perhaps Walsh should show us a clip of what he really said then.
@Moon-howler
And that’s why I’m neutral. I don’t believe or disbelieve him. But the interviewers have knowledge of her campaign and did not call him on his statement.
I think the whole thing is a non-issue. He said it badly. But that’s about it.
I didn’t take Max Cleland, John McCain or Tammy Duckworth as having said it badly. I think there are just real morons out there like Walsh, Chambliss, and a couple of local republican bloggers.
