I am appalled that any elected official would speak down from the dais in such a nasty tone to a private citizen. This man, Jeff Bergman,  was polite and was simply voicing his opinion. He insulted no one. He expressed his concern and his wishes for his community.  He spoke as a resident and a father.  For his efforts he was bellowed at, insulted and berated by our elected chairman.

NO private citizen should be afraid to speak for fear of being publically upbraided by Corey Stewart. Corey, you owe this man an apology!  He was there to let the BOCS know his community’s feelings about the Catharpin Park.  He was polite and respectful.  He was treated rudely.

I also expect you probably don’t care more for the park site being discussed than anyone else in the county. You were an obnoxious, bloviating, blowhard drama-queen who owes  Jeff Bergman,  the gentleman who spoke, an apology as well as  the entire Gainesville District an apology.

Learn some manners.  We don’t talk to each other like that here in Prince William County.  This is still the South, son.

No one here is your whipping boy. SDASTFU!

    This is hilarious, actually. Corey says, “Let me make this perfectly clear,” which is exactly what Richard Nixon said when he became indignant about people questioning things he had done. Of course, Corey and Nixon both lied about what they did. No one with an IQ above room temperature doubts that “nixing” Catharpin Park was a retaliatory measure against Pete Candland laid out by Stewart and Nohe.

    Vindictiveness toward citizens who oppose them is another trait shared by Corey and Nixon. Look how hateful Corey is toward that poor guy who is just trying to state his opinion. Backroom wheeling and dealing with campaign donors, ditto.

    Corey – please remember that none of this worked out very well for Nixon. I hope you reconsider who you chose for role models.

    Imagine the audicity of citizen to accuse the Board of using the purse strings of the county for “political play”. Let me count the ways that board members horse trade, it’s simply how politics works, no matter how small, its called logrolling.

    I don’t know that the defunding Catharpin Park was payback, in my opinion, it doesn’t matter. Jeff Bergman was not yelling, unlike Corey, did not speak in a rude manner, unlike Corey, and has every right not to expect to be castigated by his elected Chairman. How many times have I stood at that podium accusing certain supervisors of being a tool for developers? More than I can count! Corey is lucky he didn’t do that to a more seasoned citizen activist, THAT would have been a real show!

    I couldn’t agree more on the reliation against Peter. Sadly, those that chose to lead that movement failed to realize, it was the citizens that they actually retaliated against. This pisses me off royally. Our board seems to rake in the dough from developers. Why are they NOT asking their developer buddies to kick in some cash and/or land for parks and schools. Oh that’s right, they want the money for THEIR campaign coffers, not to address actual community concerns.

    Corey could care less about the truth. He wouldn’t know facts, no would he care, if they hit him over the head. He is in campaign mode and can’t have a citizen making him look the fool. He’d rather do that all on his own 😉

    The reality is that the East does need parks. Maybe if he suggested taking out all the carryover money for non profits, he could work with Mike on purchasing piece of land in the Occoquan district that is perfect for a park! I know there was such a piece of land but not sure if it’s still available.

    If we took the money that the War Museum wants and Rainbow Riding wants, we would have some fine athletic fields in both places. The fields would serve many more county residents.

    Just a little reminder about the history of Catharpin(formerly known as sudley park)Park. The land was profferd in a very large rezoning for the Braemar Develpment, thousands of homes located on the Linton Hall Corrider. Anyone know when that was? I’ll tell you 1998. Almost a decade and a half later it still sits, unable to be used. THIS is what is wrong with this county and it hasn’t changed! Proffers that are useless to citizens.

    Moon, your comment demonstrates why I say this county has not changed. Was there a citizens survery for a war museum, NO, but there was one for parks and open space. And guess what, citizens actually said they WANTED those things. The Hyltons traded a piece of land in a rezoning that included more houses than they should have been allowed. Now we are stuck with a “museum” we can’t fund while parks and rec continues to be underfunded!

    Getting the developers to pitch in for the parks will never happen. They consider their campaign contributions to Stewart, Nohe, Covington, etc. as paid in full for the services they want.

    Mr. Bergman was not aware that the only way to get the Board to support what he wants is to arrange with a developer to exploit his kids, and those of the other parents in his organization, as stooges to help a developer get something they want, and parade the kids through the public hearing.

    Yes Moon it was that land. Ed’s development company used the land to dump construction dirt and debris from other projects.

    Isn’t that totally PWC? A developer uses a property as a dump then hands it over to the county with a shiny red bow as a beautiful gift wrapped park proffer in return for the county letting them build thousands of homes. The supervisors orate about how incredible this developer is and all that they are doing for the little kiddies with this generous park proffer and almost 20 years later, it still isn’t a completed park.

    I thought that was the same park. Lots of dumping in the Gainesville District. There was lots of dumping of dirt and debris at Silver Lake also. No one seemed to know who it was, even though Elena flagged down one of the trucks that was getting huge amounts of dirt all over Antioche Road. The source of the dirt still is a mystery. It could be radioactive for all we know.

    Silver Lake still does not have trash cans and you can’t get to the main picnic area. Some gem! More like a lump of coal.

    If I recall correctly, there was an issue with developing Catharpin/Sudley due to the debris that was unearthed during the actual development of the land for fields.

    Corey’s political career might be winding down. Did you notice how many Republicans jumped into race just after Candland called him and the other supervisors on discretionary funds, and Corey and Nohe engineered the retaliation? Every active Republican in the state knows what he did regardless of how mercilessly he berates somebody speaking at citizens time.

    He’ll be vulnerable in PWC in 2015 also. Even if another Republican can’t beat him for the nomination, the Democrats can easily take him out this point with the right candidate.

    Another thing that’s been bothering me about that meeting Tuesday – Covington abstained from the vote having something or another to do with Toyota because of a conflict of interest. Corey is an international trade lawyer and Toyota is one of his biggest clients. Why didn’t he abstain also?

    1. Maybe he still doesn’t represent them. I hear he is independent now.

      I am glad to see the Wally is paying closer attention to conflict of interest issues.

    Does he think tough guy bully is the way to a Virginian’s heart? He needs to take that bully behavior to New Jersey and impress Chris Christie. The true mark of a Virginian is to be able to tell you to go to Hell using wonderful manners and smiling all awhile…and never saying the word “Hell.”

    Gypsy, decades back there was the case of a couple of Supervisors first arguing at the dias and then the brawl between them occured in the parking lot. Not sure of the exact year; just have heard the tale. Yes, would have been something if history had repeated itself in a similar fashion….LOL!

    There was a similar situation in one of your neighboring communities a few years back.
    Before the discussion of the formal agenda, anyone is allowed three minutes to speak about anything not on the agenda. This particular speaker said something one council member disliked and interrupted, very rudely. The council member made a total fool of hemself, which didn’t further his political career in the least. Maybe this’ll happen to Corey Stewart!

    1. I believe I recall that incident. I think I might have covered that situation here, complete with video. It featured a very brave vintage lady who didn’t give up either. She stared the rude pig down as I recall.

    I think it was the late 60’s or early 70’s and involved the 4 Horsemen as they were called. There was a punch thrown by either the Gainesville or the Brentsville supervisor but I don’t remember who was on the receiving end.

      I also remember the school board member who thought he ran Stonewall Jackson. That was after the 4 horsemen.

      Now historians….let’s try to remember the real names of the 4 horsemen. Is there any location where there is an archive of past supervisors?

      I vaguely remember the fisticuffs but I don’t remember who. I thought the 4 horsemen hung together.

    Ok, We know most of these folks. Kathleen and Elieen aren’t horsemen. Don White was very much the gentleman. T. Clay Wood. Maybe a hold over. McCoart and Pfitner…I don’t think so. I think we need to go back to like 1971 or 72 to get to the horsemen.

    Mr. Baggley was a supervisor then and he was NOT a horseman. I also mentally merge the school board and the supervisors. Things were different then. I am trying to remember Donald Kidwell and Andrew Donnelly.

    Who was the guy who thought he would run SJHS. Chris? You or your mom would know. big guy and he had a red sports car and had everyone cowering there for a while. Late 70s early 80s. Lived out in Gainesville I think. Maybe his name was Michael.
