If you want a great news show and you miss Aaron Sorkin and the West Wing, go to HBO and watch The Newsroom.  I have quickly become addicted.  There are plenty of great lines, as only a Sorkin production can offer, plus you get to pretend that there is a real, decent news station, even though there isn’t really.  The show deals with current or semi current events.

I can’t say enough good about it.  I rarely like anything but its worth subscribing to HBO just for the Aaron Sorkin fix.    The Newsroom isn’t for everybody.  It is definitely counter-Faux News.  The leading man , Will McAvoy really is an impressive character, moderate Republican, but a man with principles.

Each week gets better.

Another new show is Political Animals on USA.  Its pretty good also.  It is somewhat of a take off on the Clintons at times.  Sigourney Weaver plays the Secretary of State.  She is a former first lady and she is divorced from her husband.  Sound familiar?

Its a decent show with lots of twists.  Political Animals.

5 Thoughts to “Fantacize about a real news show? Miss the West Wing, Aaron Sorkin?”

  1. Need to Know

Moon – upon your previous recommendation, Mrs. NTK and I started watching this show and are enjoying it. I like the Will McAvoy character even though I’m probably somewhat more conservative than he is. I certainly consider myself more of a Will McAvoy than a Glen Beck, however.

  2. @NTK, I sure am glad to hear you say that. I like Will McAvoy also. He is a thinking man who cares about others.

I liked how he handled the gossip columnist also.

Did Mrs. NTK enojoy it as much as you did?

  3. Need to Know

We both like it, but I think she likes it even more than I do and appreciates your recommendation. It gives her a chance to watch something other than my seasons 1, 2 and 3 “Fringe” Blu-Rays (season 4 on pre-order).

I wonder, however, if anyone would ever support someone like McAvoy or me these days. Moderate-conservative leaning, fact and reason-based rather than polemics and name-calling, and unwilling to sell out to special interests to be able to fund a campaign.

    1. Lots of people could if they just shut down Fox News who has been dictating how people thing for far too long.

Its sort of contagious. Maybe I will just be a snob and say what I am thinking…too many people who years ago would have kept their mouths shut now have an opinion that they got off of Faux News. The people who are belching out opinion wouldn’t have known who was even running 25 years ago. Now some think they are experts because they watch Fox News.

I am not referring to anyone on this blog. All of you all would have been pains in my ass whether you watched Faux News or not (she said lovingly)

True Blood and The Newsroom are the two best hours on television this summer.
