From Politico.com:

The FBI probed a late-night swim in the Sea of Galilee that involved drinking, numerous GOP freshmen lawmakers, top leadership staff – and one nude member of Congress, according to more than a dozen sources, including eyewitnesses.

During a fact-finding congressional trip to the Holy Land last summer, Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.) took off his clothes and jumped into the sea, joining a number of members, their families and GOP staff during a night out in Israel, the sources told POLITICO. Other participants, including the daughter of another congressman, swam fully clothed while some lawmakers partially disrobed. More than 20 people took part in the late-night dip in the sea, according to sources who were participants in the trip.

You know, why can’t members of Congress behave, especially when out of the country?   Is this the same GOP who gets all prissy over behavior and  wants ultrasounds for women seeking abortion?  Is this the same GOP who wants us all to reliquish our reproductive rights? Is this the GOP who wants to tear down that wall of separation between church and state?

Get serious boys.  Keep your pants on.  Some of those who partied even said that they went in the water for the religious experience.  It sounds to me like a few too many drinks.  Isn’t Israel a holy site for 3 major religions of the world?  It looks like the GOP sort of crapped that one up, didn’t they?

Yoder didn’t act like an ass all by himself.  Asses like company.  Who else was with this band of fools?  This incident happened a year ago, last August.  I am not sure why the FBI was involved.  It shouldn’t be illegal to be a fool.

Christians believe that the Sea of Galilee is where Jesus walked on water.  Politico reports the following Galilee revelers and family members:

These GOP sources confirmed the following freshmen lawmakers also went swimming that night: Rep. Steve Southerland (R-Fla.) and his daughter; Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) and his wife; Reps. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.), Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) and Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.). Many of the lawmakers who ventured into the lake said they did so because of the religious significance of the waters. Others said they were simply cooling off after a long day. Several privately admitted that alcohol may have played a role in why some of those present decided to jump in.

Perhaps FOOL and the gang wanted to see if they could walk on water.  Yea, that’s the ticket.

I LOVE the expression “some members partially disrobed” before swimming. Yeah? Ever been to the beach? See a lot of dudes in business suits in the ocean? That’s what we do, partially disrobe. The nude dude? Hell, I don’t know.

    PARTAY!!!!

    Grand Old PARTAY!

I noticed we totally skipped over the fun stories that have been emerging from Janet Napalitano’s DHS! Sounds like a real party! With Suzanne Barr telling a male employee she “wants his **** in the back of her throat!” Tight ship Obama runs over there at DHS!

    1. @Slowpoke-tight enough that the woman in question is on leave. Its an allegation. If some woman at your job claimed you said that to her, in reverse, should you be fired? I would hope the matter would be investigated rather than just taking someone’s word for it. The Barr case is in litigation. If it is true she should be removed from office, not so much for that remark as for many of the other things I have read from his allegations.

Meanwhile, its he said she said.

BTW, if you did say it, I bet you would be smart enough not to say it in front of the boss, wouldn’t you?

It only sounds worse when a Republican behaves in what is perceived as a less than moral manner…. Because SOME in the party insist only Republicans have moral and they do this loudly.

Fortunately the good ole boy network/excuse is prevalent in both parties.

Run Hilary, run. Heck I’d like to see Ann Romney in charge. Five boys?? She can handle anything.

  5. Members of Congress feel a sense of entitlement. They apparently feel that they can do whatever they want and the rest of us have to tow the line…or is that toe the line?

Throw in a little GOP moral self perceived superior morality and it is just annoying and embarrassing. You don’t go to foreign countries and take your pants off. You don’t jump in lakes drunk. If you are a congressman, you represent our country. It is bad enough when ordinary tourists behave like jackasses.

I think it is the smugness that really gets me.

Why do non Republicans take such great delight when Republicans screw up? Because of the smugness and moral superiority. Ensign, Sanford, Craig, Vitter…all trying to pass bills about how the rest of us should live….hyprocrites all of them!

When Democrats screw up, they generally havent been out there telling the rest of us how to live. There’s the difference.

Skinny dipping is a moral failure? Who knew?

  11. I think rambunctious behavior in a foreign country when you are an elected official is just bad form.

I don’t think anyone has moral failing. Just bad taste and poor behavior as a guest.

  12. SlowpokeRodriguez

Can’t argue with it being in poor taste. As I understand it….there was also another Representatives’ daughter there, too……awkward!

  13. Nekkid politicans? Yet another reason for women in politics! Woohoo!

  14. marinm

You’d be shocked to know that skinny dipping occurs on Lake Montclair.

Or at least it did when I was in high school………….

@Cato, is she (Suzanne Barr) hot?? 😉

    1. I could care less if you or anyone else skinny dips in Lake Montclair. It certainly has nothing to do with elected officials not acting like jackasses in a foreign country.

Well, when you consider the totality of Janet Napolitano’s crew of female UPS drivers and women’s softball players, she’s not that bad!

    @marinm
It’s the beauty INSIDE that counts! Nope….couldn’t get it out with a straight face! I tried.

I just threw up in my mouth. Thanks.

HEY! don’t knock the UPS drivers. The one that serviced my last job was a hot blond.

Well, I don’t know how to break this to you, but the preponderance of female UPS drivers are not hot blonds!
