During the Middle East Wars, our national parks fell into decline.  They are our national resource.  We need to prioritize these parks and also help out with private donations, either to all parks or pick a park. The park to the left is Yellowstone, my personal favorite.  A good time to go to the national parks is after the rush of summer and before the snows hit.

Is everyone ready for the Republican Convention?  I think I would rather watch the hurricane other than the main speakers.  Who will be going to the Republican Convention from Prince William County?  Are political conventions becoming a thing of the past?  I am betting not.  Too many people like to go party.  If Hurrican Issac comes, will Rep. Cantor apply for Federal Relief Aid?

Make no mistake – Soros is as bad if not worse – there are no patriotic allegiances at certain levels of the financial world. They consider themselves the “global elite”, Soros was outspoken against Bush, but invested with him.

Soros has equated himself to God, the Koch Brothers haven’t said that yet – out loud. But they both trry to make you think they’re in it to help you/us through the economy. That’s BS.

War is no longer about countries it’s about money. Why I’m pro labor.

Paul Ryan isn’t a joke. I think his proposed policies should be taken very seriously. He is not a bumper sticker. Perhaps that is what makes him more dangerous.
Paul Ryan’s policies don’t represent the America I want to live in. I think he deserves serious discussion. This isn’t Palin we are talking about. Palin was a salvo of sound bites and bumper stickers. I can’t imagine anyone taking that seriously.

It’s nice to see the left recognize that pushing Ryan around won’t be quite so smart and easy as Palin. It’s going to be a real fight this time, and by the way, I’m still watching the polls, and I’m still comfortable!

    1. @Pokie

I am not uncomfortable either. I expect a Democratic win in November but I could be wrong. We shall see.

      I don’t disagree. While I distain Paul Ryan’s politics, I don’t underestimate his savvy.

  3. Emma

@SlowpokeRodriguez Polls? Useless. I make it a point to lie to pollsters who call my home.

  4. Lyssa

This is the best opportunity for the Republicans to take over and they can’t pull it together. The no compromise no moderate thing is as awful as hope and change. The Bolsheviks will win. Thats how extremism ends.

  5. SlowpokeRodriguez

Speaking of…,I heard a poll yesterday that said 50% of America is pro-life and 41% pro-choice. So saying Ryan’s policies are not in sync with America might be a tad off!

  6. Lyssa

But of those how many let that drive their vote.

  7. SlowpokeRodriguez

And don’t even get me started on the Democrats support for partial birth abortions and those wonderful images of babies left in janatorial closets to gasp and cry to death! Super poplar, that stuff!

    1. @Slowpoke

You obviously don’t understand that there is really no procedure called “partial birth abortion.” They are referring to D & X procedure. I am curious why one form of abortion is worse than any other. It was a second trimester procedure and therefore was rarely used. It wasn’t a routine procedure. Let’s just be honest here. The purpose of abortion is to terminate. I am not sure I understand your point. The only thing I can tell is you are confused.

Cut the emotional drivel. No one supports leaving babies in janirtorial closets. Don’t be absurd. I believe you are talking about that fake doctor in Philadelphia. No one supported him. IN fact, the pro-choice community sent out warnings about him and alerted the police. Stop making false accusation. That is just so desperate.

    Lyssa :
But of those how many let that drive their vote.

Agreed. The Obama economy will probably attract more voters than the fairy tale “war on women.”

    1. Maybe War on Women needs to swallow you into the Abyss. You can call it what you want. However, I am losing patience with your effen belittling remarks. @pokie

If you missed the restrictive leglistation that has been directed at women for the past year or so then you need to remove your chauvanistic blinders.

Perhaps you should have a daughter or two. That might be what it takes to pull your head out of your hind quartes.

Meanwhile, no more belittlling remarks. You are free to debate the poliies but I, for one, will not be continually belittled on my own blog nor will I have the other women here belittled. To deny an assault on their rights in that smug tone is belittling. Now you know so there can be no excuses.

That video left a few questions. All 9 people were hit by the police, not the shooter, right?

Correct. All friendlies were shot by NYPD.

I was illustrating that the police officers here would be protected by the union who would argue that while citizens were hit that the collatoral damage was necessary to protect the community. Mind you if a citizen had discharged her weapon in the same way – she’d be in jail right now and fighting civil lawsuits.

  10. marinm

    @Moon-howler

If we are currently having a war on women than would it be proper to say that there is a war on men in forcing them to provide for child support for children they didn’t want to father or for the courts siding with a woman with respect to custody?

Oh and of course forcing them to provide alimony to an empowered woman. We need to get rid of that too.

    1. marin, I think you bring up an interesting topic. You aren’t being demeaning so that’s fair game. Lets start with the child support situation for men who don’t want babies. Warning, you will not like my answer. Note before I speak that I have step sons, a son and a daughter. That will become more important as I answer.

I have thougth about men having a say so when there is an unintentional pregnoncy. both sides of it. Pregnancy has been used to keep women from having economic power as long as there have been people on this earth, until very recently. The solution is for men to get vasectomies or not have sex if they really fear entrapment. Women are the only ones who get pregnant so they rule. You cannot force them to abort or force them to bear a child they do not want to bear.

Moving on down the line to the custody child support sitution–I am the worst person in the world to ask about that. My husband landed custody of his kids when they were pre schoolers. ONe of the was there through end end of high school. He never received one red penny of child support. It wasn’t awarded to men in those days. The only reason he got custody is because his ex called him up and said you have a week to come pick up the boys or I will put them in an orphanage. He went and picked them up. He would have never been awarded custody had he sought it.

Alimony–is it still awarded? I think it is only awarded to people who are filthy rich or people who have been out of the work force for decades. I don’t know anyone who has gotten it in years. Do you actually know of anyone personally who has received alimony?

  11. SlowpokeRodriguez

Of course…show off the dyed-in-the-wool liberal you are. The only way to win the argument is to censor and shut down the debate. As always, smugness from the left is fine, and smugness from the right will not be tolerated. Do I care? Not really. But anyone with half a brain can see this for what it is. Only your extreme-left parrots will agree with you….but isn’t that how it works?

    1. Slowpoke, reading comprehension causing a problem today? I said feel free to discuss the policies and to stop the belittling remarks. I wasn’t kidding. I am not losing an argument. There is no argument. Surely you can discuss the issues without being belittling?

I don’t care what names you call me. Bully away. Right now your behavior is proving my point. Furthermore, I never promised anyone I would not censor. In fact, I promised that I WOULD censor. That was Alanna. She found out it wasn’t possible also.

      Take a different tone.

  12. SlowpokeRodriguez

Losing the argument? Get mad, cuss and swear, name-call, and censor…..I love it!

it is not up to the NYPD Union to protect the officers, it is up to the DA as to whether or not charges will be filed – same as if it were a non NYPD person who did the shooting.

    1. That whole situation seemed like a panic situation done very carelessly, but I wasn’t there. (thank goodness)

My daughter is getting alimony after 20+ years of marriage. It’s on a sliding scale and will end after a certain number of years.
No, they aren’t filthy rich / not even rich 🙂

    1. I know one other person who is paying alimony. It was from the old days when things like that were done.

      I had forgotten.

Was your daughter out of the work force for years? I think it is fair if anyone needs time to come up to speed.

  17. Lyssa

More and more men are getting alimony. Guess they are becoming “unempowered” 🙂

    Slow,,
Why are you on such a horrendous “offensive” regarding choice for women? You tend to be moderate in your views, why are you digging your heals in regarding the obvious recent events towards women’s reproductive choices?

First, until you have walked in someone elses shoes regarding abortion, early or late term, I would recommend you leave the judging to a higher power.

I know, albeit second hand, of a tragic story regarding a late term abortion. This couple “were” staunch anti abortion catholics. Until, and I stress until, into their 6 month of a very very wanted child, they learned that the baby was developing without a brain. There was no chance of life outside the womb and it would safer for the mom to have a D&X. It was a horribly sad time for this couple. Lucky for this couple, they found a kind and compassionate environment in one of the few clinics that performs these types of medical procedures.

My friend, there but for the Grace of G-d go you or I, just a reminder to relocate your humantiy.

And as far as the war on women, choose whatever words you prefer, but defunding Planned Parenthood and proposing a constitutional amendment prohibiting abortion is about extreme as you can get. Take a look at recent republican comments regading the Republican platform, Charlie Christ and Scott Brown have been very vocal on their concern regarding the ever growing gender gap. Part of which they contribute to the inclusion of the no exceptions abortion platform.

I find it shocking that republicans don’t want to tread on people “taxes” but have no problem treading on a womans body.

  20. SlowpokeRodriguez

    @Elena
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I think there is a middle path between the ridiculous Republican platform that would seek to forbid probably any abortion and the ridiculous Democratic platform that seeks drive-thru abortions right up until labor. For whatever reason, the two sides will never compromise. For me, in the first trimester, abort away! Have abortion parties for all I care. My tolerance for abortion goes WAY down after the first trimester. But look at BOTH parties platforms, no compromise. What YOU’RE so mad about is that I’m saying this election will not be decided by abortion as an issue. You’re mad because all your hero has to run on is four years of abject failure. You are mad because no matter how hard you want, you can’t take people’s attention away from Obama’s failings. So when when I disagree with your premise that the fairytale war on women will carry the election, I get accused of belittling. You can’t win the argument…. you know I’m right, and it pisses you off. Sorry!

  25. Elena

    Slow,
Interestingly enough, you are the one that sounds mad, not me. I actually don’t think Obama has been a failure. In the light of the Republican goal to make his life miserable and refuse partner on every piece of legislation, I think he has done pretty good. People forget, quite easily in fact, that this country was bleeding hundreds of thousands of jobs when Obama took office. That he forced an auto bail out saved a million jobs.

    http://www.businessweek.com/autos/autobeat/archives/2010/08/doing_the_math_on_obamas_detroit_bailout.html

Nah, considering the disaster we were in, his only mistake was not fighting for a bigger stimuls package. That the republilcans refuse to pass an infrastructure bill is shameful, just shameful.

What do the republicans propose, more tax cuts for the wealthy and less regulation. BORING, how about trying something new for a change. Oh, and let’s not forget, the all important women and their uterus, concentrating on that issue will create lots of jobs!

With respect to child support the problem is everything is stacked against the male. He may signal that he doesn’t want a child. He may use a barrier device. He may even say he wants the woman to abort if she becomes pregnant but because its her body and her decision she can have the child and then he’s responsible for financial support. Fairness here in the law would allow her to maintain that decision but allow him to walk away without claiming the child and providing no financial support, yes?

Spousal support is alive and well. My brother and BIL both pay it. For awhile while my BIL was unemployed he was still on tap to pay both child and spousal support.

I figure if the marriage is being dissolved you should leave with what you came into the marriage with and split remaining assets 50/50 unless there is an overriding reason to exclude an asset (lets say they buy a house under his name because her credit sucks.. the house should stay his asset).

I guess my issue here with this faux war on women is so transparently fake but that it somehow has legs because the MSM wants us to think and to behave as there is a full court press to bring little ladies under the thumb of us evil men.

Hello, more women graduate from college than men now. IIRC I read somewhere that women are more educated and on pace for getting advanced degrees than men in many fields once dominated by men. Women have won the gender wars. You don’t need us for reproduction anymore. A simple court order requiring us to pay for everything is all that’s needed now a days for a ‘family unit’.

I suggest that he chose a more compatible woman to have sex with.

An old country woman once told me, if its in his net when it was caught…he owns it.

The dude should keep his zipper up. Women aren’t sex machines or incubators.

    2. @marin,

I probably shouldn’t have answered. I didn’t see the word “faux.”

Make no mistake, the war on women is about reproductive issues. Let’s take up the other issues first. Your BIL and Bro must have been real bastards or married to people who were either disabled, much younger or far belpw them educationally.

I have not known anyone to get spousal support. The one person I know is from another era. The gentleman is in his late 70’s. It just doesn’t happen as a rule. It isn’t something that is easily gotten. Men are as entitled to get it as women are if they have been out of the work environment.

I also have known of a lot of men who skip out on supporting their children. My own personal situation tells of a women who would did not feel morally obligated to provide support. She was not ordered to pay however. Please note that this situation was from another era. Now women are ordered to pay child support just as quickly as men are.

Perhaps that is what is motivating the men …. what you said about women winning the gender wars. The war on women is spefically about reproductive issues.

Now, ask yourself what might cause these women victories to go backwards? Women are only able to hold on to these victories if they are in control of their own reproduction. Pregnancies, kids, etc can make a career impossible or alter its course.

Are you paying a child care provider? I don’t see how people afford baby sitters nowadays. Food, diapers, formula all cost money…lots of it. At some point women have to ask themselves if the money they make is worth it. Women not on a career path with a decent salary probably will just stay home.

Thoughts to part with….the war on women is very specific to reproduction. Reproduction controls the opportunities afforded to women. If women aren’t controlling their own reproduction, most of those other issues you mentioned probablyt will be on hold or will not happen at all. That’s the reality.

perhaps you have to live in a time when you don’t have equal rights to really understand what it is all about. I have.

“Your BIL and Bro must have been real bastards or married to people who were either disabled, much younger or far belpw them educationally.”

That’s a mighty broad brush your using. He works two jobs and now she’s a teacher in PWCS. I told him to go for her jugular but he didn’t.

“The dude should keep his zipper up. Women aren’t sex machines or incubators.”

You are making an assumption that women don’t like sex or engage in sex only to procreate. Sometimes women just want a casual affair. But, if she were to get pregnant he has no rights over her but she has rights over him. It’s an unfair system. So again, if you want TRUE equality — do we fix that?

“perhaps you have to live in a time when you don’t have equal rights to really understand what it is all about. ”

I agree with you here. Back in the day you could claim a war on women. Now? Hell no. It’s made up and mocks what women went through years ago.
