22 Thoughts to “Where do you stand?”

  1. Lyssa

Pale red for me. But just left of moderate Republican. Must be my pro labor mostly against abortion thinking. Honestly, how is that we’ve become so polarized – guess its easier not to really think too hard.

  2. Mom

Gee what a shock, Conservative Republican bordering on Tea Party Republican.

  3. Marinm

Economic: I maxed out as far as you could go on Conservative Republican. So TEA parties are to my left. 😉

Social: I am almost dead center but it shows me as more of a moderate democrat.

    Overall score of Conservative Republican.

  4. Cato the Elder

    Social: Liberal Democrat
Economic: Waaaay to the right of the Tea Party

    Go figure.

  5. SlowpokeRodriguez

Way to The right on all issues. Sounds about right.

  6. punchak

    Moderate liberal/

  7. Way right on all of it.

But I don’t like the quiz. Too simplistic. There are better ones on the net. The weighting given the answers will skew it quite far on one or two changes. Pew tends to lean left on a lot of subjects.

This question is way too simplistic and does not relate to right or left.
    • The growing number of newcomers from other countries threaten traditional American customs and values

I’ve removed the “h” to prevent moderation. copy/paste, add the “h” to http.

This one is really better. ttp://www.quiz2d.com/

  8. U of Virginia refuses President Obama’s request to speak.

And here’s why I think that’s a great idea. I fully back their reasoning.

“The university declined the request for a number of reasons including class cancellations, which UVA estimates could be more than 186 classes on the second day of school. The other main reason is they would have to take on the full cost of security, and because of university policy and their federal and state tax exempt status, they would have to offer the same opportunity to the other candidate so as not to show favor for either candidate. ”

Why would the college have to bear ANY costs of security? THAT’S Crazy!

  9. OH…Sorry

Meant to put the above in the open thread and forgot to go there.

  10. Here’s one for Marin and other libertarians. I scored as a minarchist or a “small L” libertarian.

  11. All jurisdictions have to take on the costs of security, the flip side would be, why doesn’t a president have all that built in? I would think the cost would be far more for a candidate who wasn’t an incumbant.

Here is the question–what if there were not an election–would they welcome the President of the United States?

    How about other political candidates?

  12. I think that they would welcome the President. But, again, the gov’t should pay the security costs.

I think that they would welcome any speaker that they thought would benefit the school.

  13. SlowpokeRodriguez

Have y’all checked out http://www.politicalcompass.org? THAT test was rough. Six pages of questions, and I had to read a few questions a few times to really figure out whether I agreed or not.

    Paleo-Libertarian. Right next to you.

  15. @Cargo, I don’t think that UVA should have to pay for security. I think the entire story is not being told. I think they would pay for extra security as it related to their people. That security wouldnt replace secret service stuff. but traffic closure etc..yea.

After the convention, Romney (or any other challengers) would be national event status and also would be under the secret service.

I do know that these campaigns rarely cover all the costs. I am stillw waiting to hear back from city of Manassas as to whether they had to eat their costs.

On the other hand, Obama could go off campus or he could make an albemarle county appearance and Albemarle County could host the event. (or Charlottesville)

It wouldnt just have to be UVA.,

  16. Cargo, I meant to tell you, I changed the parameters on # of links to 4 just for you.

  17. Here you go:

    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: -3.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.23

    I am not surprised.

  18. Emma

Dark blue on social issues, but medium red on economics. The questions are too few and too overly broad to give the quiz any real validity (i.e., is it measuring what it supposed to be measuring?), but still interesting.

  19. Censored bybvbl

    Solidly dark blue on both.

  20. On the Pew quiz, I could switch just a question or 2 and alter my colors.

@Cargo, I found the article in the richmond times Dispatch.
    http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/virginia-politics/2012/aug/25/tdmet01-uva-declines-obama-campaign-visit-ar-2152317/

    Larry Sabato agrees also.

the still plan for Obama to be in Charlottesville on Wed. I can understand why they don’t want a stadium.

That amphitheater would have been horrible. I don’t know what the other location is but I think it is across the street from where I married Mr. Howler. Sorta kinda. (back in the dark ages)

  21. George S. Harris

Very. very liberal and damned proud of it. Am and hae always been a FDR Democrat.
