Remember that kids are back at school and to please drive carefully.  Kids are impetuous and don’t often look where they are going.  They hop, skip, jump, and dart into streets.  If you see a kid, just assume he or she is going to do something suicidal, up the ante if the child is male.

Meanwhile, if those bus lights are flashing, stop.  Don’t try to race around it.  They will turn you in.  They = bus drivers.

Driveways are killers.  Remember to check not just your mirrors but turn your neck and look for kids.  They are often low to the ground.

Meanwhile, when does the next storm come in?

I wonder why, if republicans say we were better off four years ago than we are now, they never said a word about George W Bush at their convention lat week? Why wasn’t he at the convention, giving speeches defending his supposedly successful 8 years in office?

  2. Clinton S. Long

I saw this interesting story from the fact checkers in USA Today. I thought people might be interested.

  3. Emma

Looking forward to Clinton’s speech. I want to hear how he thinks we’re better off today–the very same Clinton who shipped so many of our jobs overseas with a stroke of a pen when he signed NAFTA, that grand bipartisan CF, into law.

  4. In honor of the previous fact checking done at the last convention, I present this, purely for information. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-09-05/fact-check-democratic-national-convention/57596574/1?csp=hf

From USA Today and Factcheck.org. NOT typically GOP bastions.

Let’s see, what’s going on at the DNC convention here. OH!! look! A little disagreement in the ranks! And a platform change! Too funny!!

  6. SlowpokeRodriguez

We are SO lucky our liberal friends have assured us there is no election fraud to worry about!

Did we like the tribute to Ted Kennedy last night? The only politician with a confirmed kill in the war on women!

  8. I see libel is still alive and well.

Its exceptionally brave to speak ill of the dead when they can’t fight back also. bok bok bok.

  9. Oh WAHHHHHHHH!..After the crock of lies told at the R convention, why would you expect straight shooting from the D’s?

Give a little get a little.

  10. Cecile Richards is speaking for Planned Parenthood.

  11. Emma

    Gov. Markell’s speech is LAME.

  12. Emma

Really? They used music from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” to introduce Kamala Harris, Califormia’s Attorney General.

    A song about a prostitute.

    1. Maybe they didnt know that. I sure didn’t. I guess I thought it was about lonely people. They have a DJ at the convention. He probably didn’t think about it. I wouldn’t have.

  13. Emma

Hopefully they won’t play that for Sandra Fluke. Rush would have a field day with that one.

  14. Lyssa

That’s one interpretation based on the reference to streetlight people – but then again there’s no such place as South Detroit. There was buzz about this five years or so ago someone used it fo4 something….I recall it because this particular song has been touted as a real classic example of rock.

Hahahhahahhahaahhaahhahahhahahahahaha. Confirmed kill. OMG I’m still crying. Wife checked to make sure nothing happened to me. Hahha. I’m stealing that.

  18. @Pokie, your girl friend gave a wonderful speech. Shall I post it? She was great!

  19. Pokie, Marin, to the Sh!tty room. Now!

  20. @Emma

Agreed. She kicked some major booty out there btw!

    She will go far.

  21. Pokie’s other girl friend is now up at the podium. He calls her Tanto. The rest of us call her Elizabeth Warren.

I haven’t figured out why she is anti-Christ for cleaning up credit card predators. Go figure.

She came from humble beginnings also.

  22. Clinton is up. I still love the man.

  23. Emma

@Moon-howler She was very dignified and poised. I give her credit.

  24. @Moon-howler
I said those things about him when he was alive. Why change now? HE made jokes about Chappaquiddick.

  25. Cargo, no he didn’t. Why would he joke about anything so tragic? Someone told you wrong.

  26. @Moon-howler
    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/28/one-of-his-favorite-topics-of-humor-was-indeed-chappaquiddick-itself/

As long as we’re on the subject of humor this morning, what kind of jokes did the late Ted Kennedy like to tell his closest friends? One of Kennedy’s close friends, former editor of Newsweek and New York Times Magazine Ed Klein, tells the Diane Rehm Show that Chappaquiddick jokes were high up on the list (audio here, at 30:10):

I don’t know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, “have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?” That is just the most amazing thing. It’s not that he didn’t feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too.

  27. Starryflights

Bill Clinton reminded us all of the booming era of peace and prosperity of the 1990s, and why we don’t want to go back to the 2000s when the republicans ruined everything. Heck yeah we’re better off now than during the George W era!

  28. @Cargosquid

I don’t think you understand what is going on there….he isn’t joking about the death of Mary Jo Koepekne. He is doing self deprecating humor….the Teddy Kennedy jokes. That’s what he is referring to.

He was haunted his entire life over that incident. The way you are telling it makes him sound like he is laughing it off at her expense.

Of course he knew people told Chappaquidick jokes. He wasn’t stupid…and that he was the butt of the joke.

  29. @Moon-howler
We are just going to have to disagree. You think he was a great man. I think that he got a way with leaving the scene of an accident and leaving a girl to drown.

    1. Cargo, your mistake is thinking you know what I think of Kennedy. I actually don’t think he was a great man. I think he was a very flawed man. I also think he was one who sought some sort of personal redemption and found it.

As for Chappaquiddick, you and I weren’t there. Do you think there is an unbiased account of it anywhere? Probably not. I was a young adult when it happened. At the time it was swirled and marled in confusion and speculation. Joe was very much still an active part of the Kennedy clan so no one will ever know. I think it takes a lot more courage to just say we don’t know. Why hop on the political bandwagon and join the conspiracy theorists?

Ted did become the Lion of the Senate. He was too liberal for my taste but that balance and leadership was needed. When he died, part of the Senate died. The one thing history will show us is that Kennedy cared about his constituents. He did all sorts of things that none of us ever knew about. It was more fun to bash him.

Great man, no. I don’t think that at all. I try to be objective. But I will challenge your “knowledge” of something you couldn’t possibly know because you weren’t there. History doesn’t know. I doubt that anyone living KNOWS.

  30. THIS is not a dig on the Democrats. I actually like the button. But I’d like to hear opinions on what you think the press would do if a Republican wore a similar button, except it says something about “voting white.”

  31. Marinm

You mean Voting White is Right?

    That’s racist.

However 95% of blacks voting for Obama (because he is black) isn’t.

Only white people can be racists. Duh.

  32. @Cargosquid

Anyone can make up a political button. Obviously that one wasn’t official. I wouldn’t wear it but I can see why some people might wear it.

As for Republicans voting white, well…why do they need a button to announce it? Its pretty obvious.

When I went to the State of the Union Address 15 years ago, that was the one thing that stuck in my mind….looking out to the Republican side which was to my left and seeing this sea of grey suits on white men. I looked across the aisle and saw color in skin, color in clothing and lots of men and women. First impressions stick.

When I was an older kid, I first heard the expression about “going black.” It had nothing to do with voting. [[[ahem]]]

  33. @Marinm
Following your logic, every white person who votes for Romney is a racist. I am not quite willing to jump on that band wagon.

  34. Following Marin’s logic…. voting for Romney BECAUSE he is white is racist.

So, Moon, what do you think the press would do if they saw such a button on a Romney guy?

Yep. The GOP is primarily white. Not the GOP’s fault if minorities want to stay with one party or another. Blacks, in particular, think that the Dems will help them out. And now, they have racial reasons to stay. Because THEY exercise free choice and stay with a party that really hasn’t done anything to help them, does not mean that the GOP keeps them out.

“As for Republicans voting white, well…why do they need a button to announce it? Its pretty obvious.” This is a pretty bigoted statement. It plays into the negative stereotype. Who are some of the most popular Republicans again? Oh…that’s right. Jindal, Haley, West, Cain……

As for “going black, [[[ahem]]]] That does seem to be what he’s doing to America 👿

  35. Emma

Good grief, Clinton spoke so long I was worried my alarm would go off and I’d have to go to work by the time he finished. Obama could have had a much better start if he had taken a page from Clinton’s charisma notebook. Clinton’s going to be a tough act for Obama to follow tonight.

It was an interesting night. Honestly, I could vote Democrat this year, since the ways I’d be voting against my own interests with Romney are numerous. But a couple of little devils got rubbed into my face last night night. If it weren’t for the extremes, this could be much easier.

The Dream Act–sorry, can’t go there. To me, it’s a red carpet for more and more illegal immigrants to flood in, not only competing for jobs but for precious college admissions. Control the borders FIRST, deport, sanction employers, then let’s talk about what to do with the kids that are already here.

In-state tuition for the children of illegal immigrants wherever they happen to land–sorry, hardworking, taxpaying Americans can’t pick and choose where their kids get in-state tuition without having to meet residency requirements. Military kids don’t automatically get in-state tuition where their parents are stationed. It’s an equal-protection issue, and essentially a taxpayer-funded grant to children whose parents have likely paid very little into the system in the first place.

    1. Emma, it doesn’t open up the flood gates for future immigrants. In fact, those coming in today wouldn’t be eligible for what Obama did.

The kids have to work hard and do well in school to be eligible. You can’t be a flunky or a gang member. If it serves as incentives for kids to do well in school and become productive members of society…I am all in favor.

Kids of illegal immigrants can go to community college now in state. Many have paid income tax with TIN numbers. This is all legal. Additionally, they have all paid state income tax. They have lived in houses that even if rented, the property tax is worked into the rent and someone pays it.

I doubt if you could have pulled the lever for Obama. I am betting your arm would have fallen off. Am I right?

I didn’t used to dislike Romney. In fact I suppported him through the primaries. I think he was a decent person. I am seeing some signs he is setting it aside. I hope I am wrong.

  36. Steve Randolph

If Democrats could make every undecided voter sit down and watch
Clinton’s speech, this thing would be over.

    1. High five! Totally agree, Steve.

  37. @Steve Randolph
Really? Because they’d see what a fraud Clinton was in that speech?
    http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/090512-624697-obama-is-no-bill-clinton.htm

I mean… if it gets votes for Romney…let’s do it.

    1. Cargo, what do you like about Romney? Was he like that when governor of Mass? I expect what you like about Romney is that he isn’t Obama.

You are free to think Clinton is a fraud. You are vastly outnumbered.

The neat thing about Clinton now is that he has nothing to lose.

  38. Steve Randolph

“This is the moment that probably reelected Barack Obama”

    Cargosquid :
Following Marin’s logic…. voting for Romney BECAUSE he is white is racist.

I think you misunderstand the “rules” of racism. Racism (as practiced and defined by the left) is unidirectional in nature.

  40. @Cargosquid
How would I know it was a Romney guy? Like I said, any fool can have buttons made up.

What would I think? Probably about the same thing I think now.

@Slowpoke, I know for a fact that racism is multidirectional. I expect I have seen it first hand many times over. Have you?

  41. @Steve Randolph

Cheer!!!! Thanks for posting this, Steve.

How about those bulls today? Pretty eh?

  42. marinm

Slow, DING DING DING!! We have a winner!

That’s why I said what I said — which is only white people can be racist. Blacks voting for Obama because he’s black and doing so at a 95% metric doesn’t show racism to the MSM – it shows anything but. However, as Moon pointed out in her comment if a person is white and votes Republican s/he must be racist.

Interestingly at a very very large company they have ‘diversity boards’ made up of women, hispanics, asians, transgenders, etc. Only one group is excluded from having a group to advocate for them. 3 guesses what group is excluded.

Now, what’s funny is that a friend of my who is of that identification pointed it out during a HR meeting and said that he feels discriminated against because there isn’t a group representing him. HR made him remove the comments from his performance appraisal and never bring it up again.

  43. @Cargosquid

If a white person votes for a white candidate, I don’t need special glasses to be able to see it, now do I?

Do you really think I am fooled by all those black R that get trotted out? Herman Caine was a joke. West is a nasty human being, whatever his race. I hope you aren’t proud of him. I saw how Michael Steele was treated and continues to be treated. He was very loyal and he got short strift. I think Jindal fits into white about like Nikki Haley does. give me a break. There are a few tests you can do….

Get out your time machine…pick up both of them and fly up here to Miller and Rhodes lunch counter in 1955 and sit down and eat lunch with them. If they are served, check them off as white.

They would have been served. No, it isn’t the GOP’s fault. Let’s look around and see who we can blame. If you make something unhospitable enough…do you think it will drive people away?

Let’s take Latinos and we can keep them right here in Prince William County. Which party led the charge to have an illegal immigrant resolution? Which party had its own blog to drive off any democratic candidates? (yes Greg, I am talking about you)
Most Latinos at least have friends that might not be in status. Sometimes bloggers forget to differentiate if they mean ‘good latinos’ or ‘bad latinos.’ Sometimes bloggers complain about people speaking spanish or too many brown faces at the bus stop or the esol classes at schools.

Then they wonder why citizen Latinos don’t want to be Republicans? That is a total no brainer.

The outreach needs to be a little more genuine and of longer duration.

  44. @marinm
Actually marin, that would be a good topic for discussion. Following your logic, you are saying there is no group for white men or just white people in general?

I am going to guess that it was white men.

As the scales tip, maybe white men will fall into a minority group. I think that is just how it always works…the majority doesn’t get to have its own advocacy group. Is that fair? Probably not.

Is there a white Miss America? No and there won’t ever be. White was the majority race too long. Even when it no longer is the majority race, I expect memories will be too long.

  45. @Moon-howler

I am going to answer myself and declare Marin an anomoly. Of course, he would deny he is a Republican also.

  46. @Moon-howler
So….if a white person votes for a white person, over a non-white person, its solely because of race? Whites vote only for race like the blacks do?

If certain minorities don’t like the political stance of a party and stay away, that is not the same as keeping them out. If Latinos refuse to accept that illegal immigrants should not be given amnesty, then they are welcome to do so. If they accept the GOP’s ideas, they are welcome to do so. Same with blacks, etc. I don’t wonder why people stay with parties that they do. I wonder why they stay with parties that don’t support them. Its arguable that Democrat policies exacerbate poverty. It’s also arguable that the Democrats are racially motivated. If that’s the sort of thing you think is important…stay with them. I’d rather stay with people that seek liberty, individual responsibility, and are color-blind.

If you want “free” stuff…vote for progressives. If you want to try and fix the problems…. vote for someone else.

    1. Why wasn’t this in the sh!tty room? I am not sure what you are asking me.

I think people vote for people they see as being like them or having ideas that they like. If that is the case, then who do you think I have more in common with? Romney or Obama?

I understand why blacks vote for Obama. I also knew election night in November of 2008 as I watched Oprah and Jesse Jackson and other famous black people standing there humbled, tears streaming down their faces, that there was something about the impact of that election, as white, person, that I would never understand. I accept that. I am part of the majority race. The deep significance of what had happened that day is viserally locked out to me. Intellectually, yes, I can understand it. It was like when Wilder was elected, on steroids.

The entire Republican platform offends me. Why would I vote for it or any of its candidates? In fact, I can’t tell you how offended I am by that platform. It blathers and blusters about freedoms and then takes away the most basic of rights and does so by government intervention. Unacceptable. Nanny state.

  47. blue

I am so glad I am Irish and not white, becuse as Irish I cannot be racist or anti-semetic and can vote for whoever is the better more qualified candidate. Now about this war on women, does that include Irish women, I don’t think they understand it that way.

    1. I thought you were Italian!
