Every group gets its own sand box. I have enjoyed this convention so much. Pokie was right. The entertainment is great. Mary Blige was up earlier. Now I am listening to the Foo Fighters singing There Goes My Hero.
This thread is for neutral or positive comments only.
Joe Biden got very emotional when his son nominated him for VP. Regardless of what you of Joe, it was a very moving experience. His son said he was his hero.
Gabby Giffords lead the pledge. She is so brave and so physically destroyed. She was energized by the crowds cheers.
Such a senseless tragedy!!!

Next up, Caroline Kennedy. I haven’t felt the same about her since she felt she was entitled to Hillary’s seat.
I will say this.
I haven’t actually seen ANY of the convention.
I already know that the music is better.
That’s sort of like comparing a Baptist service to a Catholic service. You know who has the best music.
If THIS is what’s going on, I retract my statement at #4:
From Althouse, liveblogging:
_________________________________________________
6:28: Foo Fighters emote. [ADDED: Meade says: “This is kind of depressing music, and it goes along with the whole convention.]
6:32: The Foo Fighters are singing “I never wanna die” over and over. It’s this song, “Walk”:
I never wanna die
I’m on my knees
I never wanna die
I’m dancing on my grave
I’m running through the fire
Forever, whatever
I never wanna die
I never wanna leave
No, no… that’s not an argument for a politician’s reelection.

Holy smokes…….
I don’t know what they sang….it wasn’t depressing, whatever it was. Too much Aretha Franklin for anything to be depressing.
I think what came through loud and clear is that the Democrats really like Obama as a person. I can’t say that the Republicans really like Romney. That “like factor” is really important.
His decency came through loud and clear.
It was a fantastic convention, explaining to voters why we do not want to return to the disastrous republican policies of the 2000s. I enjoyed it immensely.
You’ve hit on more than you know. You’ve hit on one of the fundamental differences between the left and the right. And it is left/right now because the country is more polarized than ever before in recent memory. The left is ALL about emotion. You saw the people crying by the hundreds. You saw Granny Granholm completely lose her shiznit at the podium. The right is logical, not emotional. No, we’re not “turned on” by Romney. But “turned on” gets you Obama and his life-support economy. We don’t need emotion. We need logic, intelligence, and leadership. The right understands that it’s OK if Romney doesn’t make us cry. Are we excited? No. But there is a job to do, and Obama can’t get it done.
The best news for Democrats, as far as Obama winning the election in November, is that Honey Boo-Boo beat both conventions for ratings, so people are just dumb enough!
@SlowpokeRodriguez
I would suggest that you don’t have logic or emotion. I have yet to see the logic after reading that platform and hearing those speakers.
Likability sustains. Think about Clinton. The come back kid is better than the energizer bunny. Why? Because people like him. There is great value in” like.”
“Like” is what gets people do to things they might not want to do…like sacrifice. Luke Warm doesn’t. Luke Warm doesn’t even get you out on a rainy day to go vote.
@Moon-howler
Because DEMOCRATS like him. (fixed it) 😉
“Luke Warm doesn’t. Luke Warm doesn’t even get you out on a rainy day to go vote.”
I bet Obama is hoping for a clear sunny day.
Logic, intelligence and reason got us into two wars that were paid for by debt, tax cuts that were never paid for and sent us further into debt, and medicare D that was unpaid for and sent us further into debt. Logic, intelligence and reason got us transvaginal ultrasounds and personhood bills. Logic, intelligence and reason got us to a point where toxic assets abounded, the economy cratered and was shedding 800,000 jobs a month and there was a housing bubble.
No thank you for logic, intelligence and reason if that’s what it is. It’s the same old crap trying to be packaged differently. I don’t buy it ,and I don’t think tax cuts for upper income earners will trickle down. I have had Enough.
Watching, you are fine. that’s the point.
I was just trying to make sure the boys stayed in their hot tub and discussed things amongst themselves.
@Watching
Sooo….if you’ve had enough….what are you going to do about it? Who do you think is going to change the above, since BOTH parties made that mess?
Oops I just saw the nuetral or positive comments only thing. Please delete my previous post. I should stick to just reading…….
On a postive note I thought it was amazing to see how the President’s children had grown up so much. Wow, his oldest daughter is quite the young lady.
You were fine, Watching. Don’t stop posting!!!!
@Watching
Actually that applies toward the DNC convention.
You did fine.
@Cargosquid
I have faith that as a country, even if the economy tanks massively or there is societal unrest, in the long run we will come out the other side a better place. I think the global influences over the next 10-15 years will force the US to rationalize it’s government and economy in order to compete and will change the ethnic make-up of the country where we will actually be encouraging workers to come to the US. I recommend the book The Next 100 Years. I think this election is the last gasp of a white, male dominated society and expect that whoever wins, immense change is coming to our country. I do not see this as a bad thing as I do not believe we can go on as we are for very much longer. Nor do I beleive that we are ever going back, thank goodness. I am hoping for third parties to have more of a say in the next elections and for campaign finance reform. I think both parties need to change to embrace the future.

Imagine the GOP folks now wish they had used the Reagan hologram
as a “surprise speaker” rather than Eastwood.
The two great Presidents of my adult life have been Reagan and Clinton.
Among their many talents, they knew/know how to inspire a convention
audience.
I
would say that Obama did a pretty good job of captivating the audience last night.
I agree with you about that Reagan Hologram.
Someone should have thought of a reason to bring in Ron Reagan Jr. Now HE is MY Reagan to love.
You’re welcome to throw my point away, consider it a “$hitty thing to say” and we’ll see in early November! The Obama economy will take care of things for you!!
The “Obama Economy” has spent four years trying to make sure we didn’t dive into a depression, which is exactly where we were headed four years ago. Doesn’t anyone remember what was happening with the large financial houses and the stock market in the summer and Fall of 2008? That was not the Obama Economy.
Frankly I am still amazed that the stock market has recovered and we have added as many jobs as we did. The housing market seems to be heading up around here, though I don’t know if it will ever reach the bubble heights for some time.
I don’t believe either party can “fix” the economy, I think it will take another 5 years to get over what was really a major crash in 2008.
Everyone seems to have forgotten what was happening back then. It’s really weird. So many people seem is so afraid and so angry.
@Watching
The housing market down here and towards Norfolk is still dropping. Or at least the values are.
I wonder why no one ever investigated who did that run on the markets. That bank run was an attack. Who did it? Is it remotely possible that no one can or could have tracked almost $1trillion in assets leaving the markets?
The stock market is pumped because of gov’t spending and adapting to a smaller market/work force. The real unemployment rate is around 11%.
I almost think that Obama is phoning it in. He knows how bad the next few years are going to be and he wants the GOP to get blamed. The economy is going to tank as soon as we stop pumping money.
“The economy is going to tank as soon as we stop pumping money.”
That should read, “The stock market….”
Think anyone’s going to buy what you’re saying? Think you can just keep blaming Bush forever and ever and ever? I sure hope you keep trying!
Watching hasn’t mentioned Bush. Paranoid much, pokie? @slowpoke
@SlowpokeRodriguez
Actually I didn’t say Bush once. The housing bubble and financial meltdown were caused by many things, not the least of which were the low interest rates promulgated by the Fed even before Bush and the Glass-Stegel (sp?) Act which eased regulation under Clinton. The two unfunded wars were supported by most Democrats and Republicans. The unfunded tax cuts to stimulate the economy were an attempt at govermnment stimulus and I think direct spending would have been better.
All I said was it was a deep pit to get out of and I think we did. I am surprised it happened as fast as it did. Why are you so angry and scared?
It was a deep pit, but the only reason we didn’t bounce back out of it is because Obama is in office. And here’s a hint: no business is going to stand up off the pile of cash it’s sitting on until Obama is out of office. You’re surprised it happened so fast, while the rest of the country knows that it should have happened a LOT faster. Now, I’m not saying things would be rosy if Juan McAmnesty had been elected……he sucked too. If I’m angry, it’s because we could be doing so much better if Obama would have the decency to resign in disgrace. Personally, I’m not angry, I’m doing just fine. And I’m not scared, either, because I’m hopeful that relief is coming in November.
@Pokie
I thnk you are dead wrong about bouncing back out of the deep pit. I can’t think of anyone who would have made that happen. What are you smoking on that new job?
@SlowpokeRodriguez
I have a theory that there is a huge group of older, retired Americans who watch Fox News all the time and it has left them angry (and I believe that is the same as fearful) and hating Obama. I call it FNE the Fox News Effect. Please at least confirm that you are not one of those.
Please tell me you aren’t affluent.
Watching, I think you are totally right. I am retired and I used to watch Faux News to see what we were in for for the day. I had to stop doing it. I ended up in just a foul, nasty mood all the time. I didn’t even believe their crap and I was angry…at them.
I say you are 100% correct with the FNE theory.
I’m spiritually affluent. Damn, couldn’t get through it with a straight face. I’m about as average as you can get. 40, male, married, two boys. Just not a liberal fool.
Attention: Notice that Pokie did NOT say he wasn’t a fool, just that he wasn’t a liberal fool. 😈
Somebody on this blog is loaded, can’t remember who. He didn’t buy an iPad, and now he’s rich as Croesus. Censored, I think.
Why do you say this?
I don’t think it was censored.
Why wouldn’t someone buy an ipad?
And you don’t watch Fox News every day, right? You didn’t say………
I actually don’t watch any TV news, I find it atrocious from all angles, local or national, right or left. I tend to prefer the online news feeds and subscriptions.
I was asked if I was affluent. I’m not, but someone made it a point to tell me how they didn’t buy gadgets and now they needed a warehouse to store all the cash.
If I want to know what’s going on in the world, I watch Fox. Not big on the opinion shows. But I can’t tolerate the bias in the rest of the “mainstream media”.
Quid pro quo, Clarice!…..Quid pro quo…….are you an MSNBC fan?
@pokie, I don’t think it was this blog. That doesn’t fit anyone here.
I am just as bad of a gadget slut as you are so I am going to tread carefully.
Are you getting that gadget tingle in anticipation of Sept 12?
The only safe news on Fox News is Shep Smith. The rest is so biased it floats.
@Moon-howler
It was here. Wasn’t long ago either. I was arguing with whoever is was, and also mentioning that I like the Google Nexus 7. Censored (I’m almost positive) said he didn’t buy every gadget that came out, instead he invested in, and rattled off quite a diverse portfolio, and said how comfortable he was living in retirement. I congratulated him on making Donald Trump jealous.
I missed seeing it. I can’t imagine who it would be. Censored is female. She is a leaning towards being a luddite but….I don’t think there is a cash barn at her house.
Figure out who it was. We can go raid the barn and buy electronic toys!!!!
What do you like about the nexus 7 over the ipad?
You don’t like Fox because they report the stuff you wish didn’t happen, that you’d rather not hear about because sometimes they make Obama look like the amateur that he is. That’s right, four years ago, he had no foreign policy experience. In fact, all he had on his resume was community organizer and “constitutional scholar”. Yeah, right.
Actually, I disliked Fox News long before there was an Obama and for the same reason I dislike them now. They are liars and twisters of the truth.
It really has very little to do with Obama.
Speaking of Community Organizers….What do you suppose Obama did when he was one?
You might be right, it might not have been censored, and if it wasn’t, I apologize for even bringing her pseudonym into it! 🙂
Nothing beats the iPad, but the Google Nexus 7 is the “hot” thing right now, and I just happened to be at MicroCenter when they had a bunch in stock. They’re so hard to get, I couldn’t have dropped my $250 on it and probably got $300+ on ebay. Android 4.1 (JellyBean) is smooth and slick. It’s just a nice Android platform to play with. It’s Google’s answer to the Kindle Fire (which is coming out in upgrades, I hear).
Same reason I don’t like MSNBC
@Moon-howler
Speaking of Community Organizers….What do you suppose Obama did when he was one?
He was suing banks to force them to make subprime loans.
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=431_1314157066
@Cargosquid Cargo, Cargo, Cargo. Has it come to this? Your link has a video that is carefully edited to make it sound like Obama is promoting subprime loans, when he is in fact pointing out problems. And the lawsuits involved concerned banks denying loans to minorities with the same qualifications as caucasians who got the loans. Pure propaganda- the Soviet KGB would be proud.
From your link:”Plaintiffs alleged that the Defendant-bank rejected loan applications of minority applicants while approving loan applications filed by white applicants with similar financial characteristics and credit histories.”
Sounds like a pretty honorable thing for a “community organizer” to do, unless one thinks racial discrimination is a good thing…
Plaintiffs ALLEGE. Yep.
That was the entire argument behind it. And then the argument was that the people were living in poor areas and that they were being persecuted because of their race and poverty. The solution was to force the banks to ignore possible problems in repayment. It was considered racist to ask for things like… providing a good credit report. Just go research Obama’s employers…ACORN
Cargo, there you go again…making up crap. 🙄
Banks weren’t forced to give loans to people they didnt think could pay them back.
