Let the games begin.  How nasty will it get?  Who knows.  We can control a lot of the nasty that goes on around us with our remote and our feet.

How was that first week of school for the kiddlies?  Hopefully everyone was fired up and ready to go.  One little Howlet is playing soccer.  She thinks she is cool.

I am just glad the conventions are over.  Now I can turn off the TV.

117 Thoughts to “Open Thread………………………………………………..Sunday, September 9”

  1. Funny how the press is soooo concerned about Romney and what he said and when.

Instead of covering real news… like what the hell happened in Libya? Who did it? Who was responsible for the security? Oh..and the fact that we just had a multi country attack by Muslim extremists on 9/11 about at video that has been ignored for months.

    @Moon-howler
You hide it well amongst the broadbrushing.

Cargo, you shoot from the hip and then when I question that….you start polishing that halo big time.

Actually I don’t. I considered each word carefully. I know what I’m talking about. And I’m not polishing anything. I stand by my words. Its you that is generalizing. Hide it well among the broadbrushing? Hide what? Either I’m “broadbrushing” or I’m not. I SPECIFICALLY described what I consider to be barbaric.

I didn’t hide anything. I was right out front with my opinions about uncivilized barbarians that use their religion as a basis for violence. Its not my fault that the Muslim religion generates so much intolerance amongst its adherents. I just don’t excuse them.

    1. @Cargo

No one on this blog has excused them or even pretended that their behavior is acceptable. Why are you implying that someone is?

I don’t know what you are watching. I have seen the press all over it…who what when where and why and what next. I can’t fault the press at all.

I think the response of Candidate Romney is extremely important. Both Republicans and Democrats feel he was way out of line. That is very much “news.”

You have an ego the size of Kansas…you know what you are talking about. You sure missed a few beats with the chronology on here today.

  2. Second Alamo

Yet another embassy under attack. Seventh century minds with 21st century weapons just don’t mix. So how’s that Arab Spring working out for you? They need to replace their religion with a peaceful hobby, and the world would be better off for it. Let them worship the X-Box or iPhone as we do. Hard to riot while you’re on the phone don’t you know!

  3. SA they probably have more cell phones than we have.

I think the problem is that there are huge amounts of under class in these countries that have been led by dictators for centuries.

    We can’t expect instant results.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your comment about 7th century. That’s what happens when people live under dictatorships. Obviously many of these people simply don’t understand American principles. From what I read yesterday, they think that cheesy movie was Hollywood produced by our government.

  4. @Second Alamo

\Now we have something to do with those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan…they are going to have to be at every embassy and consulate in the world. Geez.

  5. The Chicago teachers should probably end the strike. No one’s watching.

  6. SlowpokeRodriguez

Meanwhile, unemployment claims jump (don’t tell Starry, he thinks everything’s rosy!), gas prices jump, the stock market’s happy because the Fed about to fire up the money printing machine again. Obama’s got an AWESOME record to run on!!!

    1. I thought the unemployment claims were down. I get confused between jobs and unemployment.

Pokie, does that mean Mr. Romney will be getting your vote?

  7. SlowpokeRodriguez

    Moon-howler :
The Chicago teachers should probably end the strike. No one’s watching.

The media is not reporting on it as news because it doesn’t look good for Democrats and the left. Meanwhile they have a vested interest in making Romney look as bad as they can (evidenced by the open-mic attack plan from reporters). Doesn’t SOUND like they’re making any headway.

  8. @Moon-howler
Really, I missed the chronology…how so? Everything that I’ve written has been backed up by the time line. I even stated that ROMNEY’s statement got the timing wrong. And I’m not stating that anyone here excused violence. Where am I implying that? I’d really like to see it, because if that’s how its coming across…I’ll change it.

  9. SlowpokeRodriguez

Maybe!, Maybe! Who’s to say what might happen between now and November. I might go absolutely batshit insane and decide to vote for Obama. Four years years of stagnant economy, kissing up to Muslims, high unemployment, withering dollar value! All sounds like fun!

    @SlowpokeRodriguez

Sometimes you just have to let the system fail and reboot.

  11. @Moon-howler
I thought the unemployment claims were down. I get confused between jobs and unemployment.

BLS statistics showed it dropping from 8.2 to 8.1. However, that dropped came from the fact that even MORE people have dropped off the rolls. By BLS logic, if no one received unemployment payments or made claims, we would be at 100% employment.

  12. Emma

@Cargosquid Then there are the recent college grads who cannot get jobs in their chosen fields, and are working in retail in the meantime. I guess they count as “employed”. Those statistics seem to disregard the underemployed.

  13. @Emma
The BLS reports two statistics. The U3 which is the one reported and the U6, which include the underemployed and those that have given up.

    U3 = 8.1%
    U6= 14 +%

However, both rate ignore the total workforce as it was when the recession started. If you adjust it for the civilian labor force participation rate….if it was the same as it was when Obama took office, the rate for the U3 is actually 11+%
    http://www.aei-ideas.org/2012/09/a-big-and-updated-version-of-the-biggest-most-important-chart-in-american-politics/

However, that participation rate has been dropping for a long time. Current economic policies are not completely at fault for that. It was relatively level, thought, between 2004 and 2008. I use that rate to compare apples to apples during a time period.

    Steve, do the bull dance!!!!

  16. @SlowpokeRodriguez

Actually, there are other things going on in the world that are getting more attention. Perhaps you missed them, Pokie.

I don’t think you have a clue how to politically interpret the strike. If you think it is doing the Democrats any good, you simply haven’t been eating your wheaties.

  17. @SlowpokeRodriguez

i would start practicing the right pucker up if I were you.

  18. @Emma
Under employment and grad unemployment are not new phenomena.

  19. Except for Steve, I think I just spent the past 15 minutes with the people who are most responsible for “turning me.”

You all have no idea how influential you all have been in turning a moderate into a solid Democrat.

I would chop my hands off before pulling another R lever.

  20. @Moon-howler
    What’s the eye roll for?

I was just answering a question.

  21. @Moon-howler
Well, that’s your decision. Your choice to put party first.

But then, I didn’t expect anything different. Ain’t democracy wonderful? We can all make choices. If the likes of us….with no power…can make you do that….then…apparently we helped you realize where your true political loyalties lie. Its always good to be clear where your principles lead you. I, for one, am happy for you, now that you’ve solidified your positions and will make your decisions to vote for people because of your principles.

    Welcome to the partisan wars.

    1. Yea, I might have to try not ever voting Republcan for a while. Independent and Democratic Party votes only.

Actually, I know where my true political beliefs lie. They haven’t ever changed. The Republican party has been hi-jacked.

Once again, I find your words condescending.

Let me be perfectly honest. My politics haven’t changed. You all have just made sure that I truly see finding common ground a huge waste of my time.

      There is no common ground.

  22. Carney: Protests not directed at the United States:
‘This is not a case of protests directed at the United States writ large or at U.S. policy, this is in response to a video that is offensive to Muslims’

Not directed at the United States? When the crowds are chanting the things they do and are attacking US embassies? And blaming Obama? What was that you say, Moon? Perception is reality? I don’t think that Carney is even “perceiving” reality.
Please tell me what you think. I’m not saying another word…..well, not right away.

    1. I expect that protests at the German embassy weren’t against us.

I expect Carney probably has more of an inside track on what’s going on that you or I. I have no idea.

Cargo, I think you spend too much time looking for things to blame this administraton for. How are you going to survive the next 4 years?

The board voted 13-2 Friday to enact the regulations, including a hotly contested provision that requires Virginia’s 20 existing abortion clinics to meet the same architectural standards as new hospitals. Several opponents chanted “shame” as they left the room.

I bet the Cooch signs off on this version. 🙂

Mitt Romney’s Major Advantage Over Obama Has Evaporated
    Brett LoGiurato | Sep. 13, 2012, 10:20 AM | 10,530 | 46

Much has been made of President Obama’s convention bounce and subsequent flop for Republican nominee Mitt Romney, which continued last night when a new Fox News poll put him 5 points behind President Obama.

But what’s more troubling for Romney in these polls is the fact that he’s losing almost all ground on what has always been perceived as his major advantage — the economy. This week, in numerous polls, Obama is wiping out Romney’s lead on handling the economy and jobs.

We saw it again last night in the Fox News poll. First, on the issue of handling the economy and creating jobs, the two candidates are tied, 46-46. That’s a 3-point swing from last month and an even bigger swing from June, when Romney held a 7-point advantage.

The Fox News poll isn’t alone:

First, Romney’s focus on the “Are you better off than four years ago?” question appears to be a wash, at best. Voters are evenly split on whether they’re better off under Obama’s tenure. Moreover, most voters say they are better off than one year ago.

    Not looking good for Romney

  25. @Marinm

His actions today will keep him out of the governors mansion in 2013.

The women of Virginia will not tolerate this little dictator. There are more of us than there are of him and his ilk.

He might not even make it that far. They might take his sorry ass to court.

  26. @Starryflights

He knows how to fire people. He is no expert on the economy. I am not impressed.

You’re counting on a lot of VA women to be, well, not too bright, for your threats to come true. I’m not convinced.

    1. Pokie, I doubt seriously if the women of Virginia feel they need your approval or that your opinion of their “brightness” is really too important to any of them.

That wasn’t a threat. It was a statement of fact. He is too much of an extremist to become governor.

  30. Marinm

    The real war on women.

    http://www.guns.com/walmart-refuses-mossberg-930-shotgun-sale-prayse-dangler-indiana-10965.html

“Here’s the kicker though. The man behind the counter looked at me in disbelief when I pointed out the beefy Mossberg 930 Tactical weapon that Brad had researched out for me and planned on taking me out shooting to get comfortable with. The man then proceeded to interrogate me about what I wanted it for and how it would be used. He said that I didn’t hold it right and that I needed ‘something else better suited to you.’ He put it back in the case and firmly refused to sell it—all because I am a petite young woman!

  31. @Marinm
I’d contact the management if I were her.
Then, in front of them, I’d leave and state why.
There are way too many other sources to put up with that.

  32. @Moon-howler
So, you agree…..the attacks are NOT against America? Or can you admit that Carney said something stupid?

  33. punchak

Kansas Secreatry of State, Kris Kobach, and some other “gentlemen” are considering
scratching Obama from the ballot in November.
    His BIRTH CERTIFICATE, you know!

    1. I think Kansas as always been a problem. Bleeding Kansas. A land unto itself without laws.

      Watch them get sued.

Wait, my mistake. I think you’re talking about Cooch, and I had McDonnell in mid. You could be right about this one.

  36. @Cargosquid

Not all the attacks are against America. You know this because some are against Germany. I would say that the attacks are against the West.

I won’t comment on what Carney said. I didnt hear his entire comment in context.

  37. @SlowpokeRodriguez

I was speaking of chooch. I don’t like McDonnell either though. He’s the governor for another year. I want old Governor Ultra-sound out there to remind the younger women, just in case they forget.

Gov. Ultra-sound is essential right now!

This one was chooch’s fault. The guv just played the role of governor chicken doodle. I didn’t expect any better.

He let some fool,(Dragas) almost destroy the University of Virginia and he chicken shat that one too. Dragas still sits there…muddling the works. Hell, he didn’ even appoint her.

  38. Morris Davis

In order to register to vote I have to swear that the information I am providing is accurate and acknowledge that I am subject to felony charges if I don’t tell the truth. Why don’t the candidates trying to get me to cast that vote for them not have to swear, subject to felony penalties, that the information they’re providing me to get my vote is true and accurate? They could tack it on to the end of their ads: “I approve this message and will do 10 to 20 if it’s not true.” I think all these voter fraud initiatives are pointing the microscope in the wrong direction; it’s not fraud by the electorate but by the wannabee electeds that’s the problem.

    1. Excellent point Moe. I feel a paper coming on covering this topic. OPlease send me a copy!!!

  39. @Marinm

    They are irrelevant.

They did the right thing to stawrt with. They can’t certify their own recommendation.

I think they should have stood their ground but maybe they like having a job. Who knows what kind of threats were issued.

So a pass…no. Reality? I know how these things work.

My contempt for Taliban Cooch? Unlimited. What a smug little rat he is.

There is someone on this blog who had an abusive spouse. Cooch was his lawyer and did everything he could to see that the spouse abuser went free including no restraining order. Typical.

Don’t worry though. Terry will be in office soon.

  40. @Cargosquid

I understand the difference. I just don’t remember from one release to the next.

  41. @Marinm

Women will decide what is war on them, not you.
