Let the games begin.  How nasty will it get?  Who knows.  We can control a lot of the nasty that goes on around us with our remote and our feet.

How was that first week of school for the kiddlies?  Hopefully everyone was fired up and ready to go.  One little Howlet is playing soccer.  She thinks she is cool.

I am just glad the conventions are over.  Now I can turn off the TV.

Don’t go to Facebook, then. Family and friends all throwing provocative photos and quotes at each other….for what reason? I watched both conventions, I intend to watch the debates and then I’ll absentee vote and work the election. After that I will continue to nurture my family, support my friends, share my time and talents with my community and take naps when I get crabby. Life is short and we do not have too much time to travel the way with each other. So be swift to love, make haste to be kind…

    1. FAcebook is really depressing, Cindy. I agree. I have tried just not commenting.

Listen, I think the Koch brothers will bring back unions…I’m not entirely sold on unions but the Koch Brothers MO is short term gain and I really believe it will result in a resurgence of Unions..the first reason for a union is when people are treated badly..then it moves on to greed.

You seem to scoff at everything.

    1. I agreed with you. @Lyssa. How is that scoffing?

  7. Lyssa

Are you asking me why I think most of “Slowpokesomething’s” posts are scoffing???!!

  8. SlowpokeRodriguez

I only scoff at the scoff-worthy.

Well, I should at least bid you a belated welcome to the global economy. As long as people somewhere will do things for a few bucks less, well, that takes care of those unions. Public sector unions? Not sure how they correlate to Koch Brothers’ influence. Public sector unions will get knocked around by the fact that the people who pay the taxes will get the royal shnits of them.

    1. They should just be thankful there are public workers.

Public workers can be abused just as easily as the next guy. Look how long it has been since some of ours have had a raise.

Privatization of public utilities allows Koch to buy them – another step toward cornering energy.

How ’bout them Redskins? No, I’m not a fan, but watched some of the game, and it was a great start. Washington will be abuzz tomorrow (about Super Bowl, of course) 🙂

  15. @Moon-howler
It had to be scripted. For one thing, that wasn’t a random stop. The bear hugger was a visitor to the White House a few months ago.

    1. I don’t think that the bear hug was scripted. You can have a random stop and not know the president is going to be “manhandled.”

I can’t imagine anyone doing such a thing to the president of the United States. I also can’t believe the Secret Service didn’t so much as flinch while he was being lifted off the ground. It had to be staged.

It would have been funny as hell if the guy would have body slammed him. Since when are you allowed to put your hands (and arms) on the president? Talk about a total lack of dignity for the office. This guy is just one huge photo-op. (BTW, I’m referring to Obama!) When was the last time you even thought of giving your boss a bear hug much less the POTUS? I wonder if he’ll visit a nudist colony any time soon. Now THAT would make for a photo-op I’m sure. After all, he has to connect with everyone to get those votes you know.

Breaking news on CNN – apparently a mob has stormed the US
embassy in Cairo – ripping down the American flag and replacing
it with a black Islamic one.

    This is terrible.

  24. middleman

@Second Alamo Hmmm- “dignity for the office,”huh? A vision of Jan Brewer pointing her gnarly finger in the President’s face comes to mind. Donald Trump continuing to question the President’s citizenship pops up. A U.S. Congressman yelling “you lie” to the President in a meeting. And on and on. The Republicans have breached the dignity thing once and for all, so it’s all fair game from now on, Alamo…

    1. Standing ovation, middleman!

Ah middleman, how soon you forget the undignified comments from those in congress directed at Bush. I’d have to say THAT was the start, and it wasn’t the Republicans. Of course there was that blue dress thing earlier, but …

    1. Actually, it is none of our business re blue dress. How on earth can anyone think that is the people’s business.

What comments in congress directed at Bush. Lets go with specifics.

Middleman is right. He left off a Supreme Court justice mouthing ‘not so” during the state of the Union address. Total public disresepct is pretty much what I have seen. I saw it at Clinton also. I saw it at Bush. I don’t go by the school yard…well he did it first mentality.

State Department officer killed in attack on US Consulate in Libya, following Egyptian protest at US embassy

    Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/09/11/egyptian-protesters-scale-us-embassy-wall-in-cairo/#ixzz26DsB7qLg

I understand our Leader wants to apologize for all that is great about America. I think we should apologize. We’ll encase those apologies in .556 American made brass at 2000/fps. They can have as many as they want.

    1. You know your Leader doesn’t want to do that. Hate who you want but don’t spread lies here.

  32. marinm

Wait. Which part? If I’m being called a liar I’d like the specifics on what I’m lying about.

  33. marinm

Apparently President Obama can’t see Egypt and Libya from his house. On the anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks ever perpetrated on America, our embassy in Cairo and our consulate in Benghazi were attacked by violent Islamic mobs. In Cairo, they scaled the walls of our embassy, destroyed our flag, and replaced it with a black Islamic banner. In Benghazi, the armed gunmen set fire to our consulate and killed an American staff member. The Islamic radicals claim that these attacks are in protest to some film criticizing Islam. In response to this, the U.S. embassy in Cairo issued a statement that was so outrageous many of us thought it must be a satire. The embassy actually apologized to the violent mob attacking us, and it even went so far as to chastise those who use free speech to “hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.” (Funny, the current administration has no problem hurting the “religious feelings” of Catholics.)

…America can’t afford any more “leading from behind” in such a dangerous world. We already know that President Obama likes to “speak softly” to our enemies. If he doesn’t have a “big stick” to carry, maybe it’s time for him to grow one.

    -Sarah Palin

    1. Sarah Palin is an insignificant twit with a big stupid mouth.

    2. From the Washington Post:

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today,” Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in a statement. “As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.”

@marin, hurting the religious feelings of catholics? bwaaahahahahahahaha give me a break. You talk like Obama went around dropping birth control pills in the sacrifical wine.

I am getting tired of hearing the whining about birth control. Its here to stay. Catholics need to get over it. I said this 40 years ago and i will say it again. No one is telling anyone they have to use it. 40 years ago I had every reason to take a strong position on this subject.

  34. Second Alamo

‘Religion of Peace’ in action once again, and actions speak louder than words. I guess our support of the Arab Spring was a little misguided at best, but don’t mention that to Obama. It wouldn’t be politically correct you see. I’m sure the Muslim Brotherhood will come out to condemn something, but I doubt it will be the attack on the embassy.

    1. Actually the Muslim Brotherhood did condemn the attack on the embassy.

That statement was issued by the American Embassy in Cairo about religious tolerance.

Someone needs to lock up the Reverend Terry Jones. He is an irresponsible fool who should be held responsible for death of Ambassador Stevens.

  35. Second Alamo

As much as I’d like to agree with you on Jones, what ever happened to ‘free speech’? No, we shouldn’t cower to some ancient belief system that will take a life because they accidentally tore a page out of a mass produced book, or drew a cartoon face. Life is far more important than that. Heck, we don’t even put people to death for having killed multiple innocent people. If we have to take any action how about we start there, and the hell with what Jones does.

  36. I believe his actions can clearly be regarded as yelling FIRE in a crowded theater.

How many more deaths are his stupid actions going to cause?

  37. Maybe Rev. JOnes would like to go visit the family of Ambassador Stevens and explain to them why his first amendment rights are more important than Chris Steven’s life.

Pat Robertson needs to watch his step also.

Actually the film was released on youtube and some hot-heads got hold of it. I think they thought it was being shown in theaters as a product of Hollywood. Its hard to combat ignorance.

Sorry to interrupt, but I wonder how much play the mainstream media will give to this DNC goof. Heer’s your card!

Great news!!! Glenn Beck is coming back to television. Now is the time to load up on stock in Alcoa: the demand for tinfoil hats is about to go through the roof.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/12/business/media/glenn-becks-show-heads-to-dish-network.html?_r=1&smid=tw-nytimes

  40. I don’t agree with Rev. Jones. I defend his right to free speech.

Reverend Jones is responsible for NO deaths. The deaths are directly attributable to the people that committed the crimes. The crimes were committed by and incited by barbarians in the name of their religion.

Perhaps Rev. Jones should go visit the ambassador’s family. The actions of his killers seem to fulfill Rev. Jones’ premise. However, I wouldn’t attribute the violence to their objection of a movie too much. The mob outside the Cairo embassy, you know the one that tried to kowtow to religious intolerance in the hope of fending off violence, were chanting, “We’re ALL Osama, Obama! There are millions of us.” So…I think that the “protests” were scheduled for 9/11 anyway.

    1. I don’t defend his right or Westboro’s right to free speech. They abuse with their incendiary words.

Jones might as well have taken out a gun and killed Ambassador Stevens. I hold him responsibible for the excessive violence against our troops also after his public Koran burning speech also.

  41. HAHAHAHAHAHA ….. oops.

I wonder what kind of hay the press would have made if Romney had done this? Funny how no press got it either.
    http://www.navytimes.com/news/2012/09/navy-russian-warships-displayed-dnc-veterans-tribute-091112/

Now I’m sorry that I missed it. It would have been so nice to point out this mistake from personally viewing it.

  42. So, the actions of barbarians on the other side of the world, that already hate us, that already planned this weeks ago, are the fault of Rev. Jones because you don’t like his speech.

Blaming the violence caused by ignorant barbarians, incited by their leaders, that will attack us ANYWAY, is foolish. It doesn’t matter if we make them “furiouser,” they want to kill us anyway. Its like, during WWII, “stop insulting the enemy, you might make them mad.”

Incendiary words are WHY the 1st Amendment is needed.

  43. @blue

    Great gotcha.

I guess the DNC has enough capital accumulated to eat this one.

  44. @Cargosquid

The film has been up on youtube since sometime in July. Jones has been beating the drums since then.

So are all arabs or Muslims barbarians?

You are absolutely right. I don’t like his speech.

I blame violence on the film maker and on Terry Jones. They want to stir things up. There is no reason they can’t be respectful or still better, just ignore.

I am foolish? Reminder, it might be smarter to keep that opinion to yourself.

Cargo, cut the bigot remarks. Much of Libya was working with Ambassador Stevens to restructure that country. I have not a problem with calling those protestors “thugs.” I have a great deal of problem with broad brushing.

Countries just don’t fall into place. Ours didnt. Libya isn’t our enemy. There are factions within the country who wish us ill. why stir them up?

  45. TAC

    @Moon-howler
This may not be facebook, but you could use a like button.

    1. I don’t know how to install one without linking up to facebook and I will avoid that at all costs!!!!

If you can figure out how to do it, I will gladly install.

  46. Did you not see that I’ve stated that not all Muslims are bad. Barbarians = jihadists = rioters=embassy attackers.

The Libyans that attacked the ambassador ARE barbarians as are those that dragged his body through the street. Every single time I’ve used my descriptions, the words violence, attacks, those that hate us, etc….are included. Its obvious that I’m talking about the violent extremists.

If the filmmaker is to blame for the violence, then are we clear to commit any violence because THEY incite it? That’s your logic as it appears to me.

    1. You hide it well amongst the broadbrushing.

Cargo, you shoot from the hip and then when I question that….you start polishing that halo big time.

He is responsible for inciting a pack of dogs. re the filmmaker. Incite, aid and abet, fighting words are all legal terms that can land you in the pokey. Afraid life isnt that binary.

Most violence has layers, like an onion.

  47. marinm

The speech is protected. I see it no different than a woman walking around in a ‘provocative outfit’. The outfit doesn’t mean violence is acceptable.

A video is not an excuse for murder. As much as going to a bar is not an invitation to being groped.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2200779/Jacqueline-Hatch-Female-judge-APOLOGIZES-telling-groping-victim-brought-attack-BAR.html

  48. @marinm
You’re absolutely right! Everyone knows that you go to airports for groping.

  49. You know….what’s lost in all of this is…Why was that anti-Muslim film made?

Apparently it was paid for by Copts……now I wonder why.

The Muslims state that the film was made to stir up hatred between Muslims and Copts.
The Copts, busy mourning hundreds murdered and rebuilding churches, had no comment. Well, that and if they HAD a comment, the local authorities would throw them in jail.

What was that from the militant salafists? Muhammad Al-Zawahiri: “I am talking in terms of ideology. The oppressed have a legitimate right to defend themselves. Someone who kills my children and burns down my home should not be angry if I kill his children and burn down his home. If I had bombed their home first, they could have claimed that I was the attacker.

So, I’d say that any film by the Copts is fair, especially if this film is in reaction to decades of oppression.
