Volcan del Fuego made September 13th rather memorable for those living around the volcano in Guatemala.  A volcanic eruption can affect air travel and weather around the world.  If the eruption is large enough, it can affect climate for several years.

33,000 inhabitants were evacuated.  The volcano spewed lava nearly 2,000 feet.  The pyroclastic flows are the most dangerous.

  3. I remember that area from a visit when I was small. While that particular volcano was quiet, another was erupting at the time and I could see the red glow in the distance. It was the first time that I’d ever seen such a thing.

    enough volcanic activity and we might be able to offset global warming. Instead of a lot of emissions regulation, maybe we ought to be trying to tickle the gag reflexes of volcanoes around the world. Might be cheaper. Might work better.
