If the deal wasn’t already sealed, here it goes.
From MotherJones.com:
During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don’t assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
Romney went on: “[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
Details as to the whereabouts of this meeting have been kept sketchy to protect the informant. Obviously Romney has disdain for those not of his class. Did it ever occur to him that some of those who don’t pay taxes have deductions that clear them to zero? I particularly like how he emphasized the word ENTITLEMENT.
It’s one thing to think that I am a lay about and freeloader behind my back. Its another thing to say it outloud. In fact, I would be willing to bet I’ve worked harder in my life than he has.
If Romney’s campaign is indicative of potential White House advisors, we migh have a bigger problem than we think.
@kelly_3406 ” I seem to recall you are a self-proclaimed conservative who has bitterly criticized Obamacare. So what logical thought process has led you to support Obama?”
And I will still bitterly criticize many things about Obama. He has many weaknesses, and trust me, I will not suddenly start holding back my feelings about them. And the far left still makes me ill. But I am disgusted with the Republican Party, and I cannot believe that Romney is the best they could come up with. Just a few points about Romney:
Go to Romney’s website. He still says he wants to repeal Obamacare “on day one.” That’s certainly NOT what he was saying just last week. Where do you stand, Mitt?
Romney promises to “reduce the federal workforce by 10% by attrition.” Really? Which agencies? Or will it just be the Bain Capital slash-and-burn approach, regardless of mission?
“Maintain current tax rates on interest, dividends, and capital gains.” Sure, great idea. So while I leave my home at 5:30 in the morning and sit on the highway for an hour, work my butt off at a job that, yes, I love, but exhausts me by the end of the day, I’ll fork over about 33% of my pay for taxes, while Mr. Capital Gains told us recently that he paid “at least” 13 percent in income taxes for each of the past 10 years. Wow, dude, the government couldn’t function without you.
Offshore bank accounts: Sorry, that’s just un-American and hard for a president to defend.
“Mitt believes that the retirement age should be slowly increased to account for increases in longevity.” Hey, great idea. Give your current voting bloc of Florida seniors and near-retirees everything they want right now, and screw the rest of us who have 10 or more years until retirement.
We have wars that the Republicans refused (and continue to refuse) to raise taxes to fund. My kids deserve better. That’s just unsustainable.
The last straw? Paul Ryan for VP. I just don’t get it. I have no idea who Mitt Romney is. His own party members keep backing away from him out of self-preservation. I simply don’t believe him.
So it’s a question of who sucks less, basically.

Emma,
The extreme on both ends, right and left, hold no attraction for me.
Between center left and center right is where we find solutions in my opinion.
John Huntsmen was the best candidate the republicans had and they effed up. It’s a shame.

noun
1.
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2.
procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3.
(in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
So…if the government taxes you (controls the capital) and then gives it to another
That’s gov’t? Well…..yes. You’re right. A SOCIALIST government. Socialism has many degrees of control and ownership. But…where in the Constitution do you see the authority to confiscate wealth and give it to another?
Cargo, you just repeated my definition of socialism back to me for some reason. Who do you see implementing collectivist principles? Who is advocating taking control of the means of production? PLEASE don’t reply Obama, as this would be ridiculous, and I don’t think you’re a ridiculous person. Obama has propped up the capitalist system with bank bailouts and insurance company give-aways (Obamacare). The stock market is doing great under him, as are the ultra-rich capitalists. If he even feinted towards socialism, he would have forced the banks to help out the underwater mortgage folks with the bail-out money we gave them. And he would have pushed hard for single-payer healthcare. But even that wouldn’t come close to the definition of socialism you supplied. This is more red-scare stuff-mis-using terms and categorizing people and groups to demonize them. As long as the powers that be keep you and I arguing about trivia like this they’re free to keep exploiting us…and the middle class will continue to shrink.
