We are over here cheering on the GOP. They keep shooting themselves in the foot, keep trying to blame Obama, and then go back for some more ammunition.
Why Moon, what are you talking about? [eyeing the empty chair] Every time the GOP takes a hit for their 19th century base, they nudge Obama and Tim Kaine closer to the finish line. Let’s face it. Some of this base that GOP candidates are trying appease wouldn’t be pleased unless all Virginia women were barefoot and pregnant and the men folks were wearing horsehair shirts.
But lets not go to extremes. Let’s just take a look at what happened. The Virginia GOP either tried to enact or did enact very restrictive laws on Reproductive Rights. Governor Bob McDonnell is now nationally known as Governor Ultra-sound. Women’s rights were further eroded last week when AG Ken Cuccinelli refused to sign off on the recommendation of the State Board of Health regarding newly legislated abortion clinic regulations. It seems the governor charged them with the task of setting the rules. When they voted to grandfather in existing clinics, Cuccinelli not only refused to certifiy their findings. He also threatened them. No one will probably know the exact nature of the threats. The women of Virginia became fired up. To make matters worse, time and time again the women of Virginia were denied free speech. Some were arrests and hauled off the steps of the Capitol in Richmond. Some were escorted out of last Friday’s meeting by security for saying “shame.”
Let’s move on to the national scene. It is too hard to enumerate the violations made against women voters there. Spokesperson Sandra Fluke was called a slut by fair-haired child of the GOP Rush Limbaugh. Some big donor named Fries publicly told the women of America to keep their legs together by putting an aspirin between their knees. He thought he was being hilarious. Various senators and congressmen have attempted to restrict abortion rights and defund Planned Parenthood. It seems like the assaults have come daily. These same senators and congressmen can’t take care of any business but abortion and contraception restriction, it appears. Meanwhile, President Obama’s jobs bill sits …and sits. Virginians face sequestration. Congress sits and does nothing. Their neon god Norquist hasnt given them the g0-ahead.
Mitt Romney has stuck his foot in his mouth so many times he has just become afflicted with foot in mouth disease. He has called the President of the United States “disgraceful” in the middle of an international crisis. He has dissed 47% of all Americans by rendering them insignifcant because they don’t pay federal taxes. His disdain for them was captured on video. He appeared with “bed-head” on television at 10 pm and dug a hole even deeper.
Those of us who support democratic candidates, at this point, are cheering ” bring it on!” Its hard to imagine how much things have deteriorated in GOP land.
The far right culture warriors really don’t see that it is their fault. They pushed and pushed the cowardly candidates into a corner. They did it over money. They did it over reproduction. They did it over religious issues. The veiled attempt to hide under T-party clothes didn’t work either. Grover is probably tired of them also.
Most Americans just want to be left alone. They don’t want other people taking their belongings and they don’t want other people restricting their liberties. They don’t want social do-gooders making deeply personal decisions for them. Americans have given up on the GOP this go-round. Many in the GOP have given up on the GOP this go-round
The far right GOP needs to realize that they will get more of their wants satisified if they meet us all in the middle. You try to tread on us, we will shove your snake down your throat at some point. That point is now. There is more than one snake in the garden.

I think the saying goes “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” or the train/car wreck you can’t stop watching. Is Obama winning or is Romney handing it over…. Too much bowing to the so stinkin’ righteous who are probably hiding a mountain of sin. I’m so disappointed with the Republicans. The gleeful stupidity of those voting for Goode or Snyder, Paul, McMillan, Johnson …..do you think you’re helping? You’re like those itty yip yip dogs amusing but tiring. The Democrats are so very weak in almost all areas and would certainly lose in most other elections but this one….they just don’t appear to be so mean….. Sometimes it’s really that simple – perception.
I’m waiting for Rove to start moving $ to house and senate candidates. Probably after the first debate – its almost ” every man time ” for the Republicans.
I don’t know. The Democrats have accomplished a couple things that no one else has been able to accomplish.
Don’t ask, don’t tell is no longer. I have laughed at the people who blamed Bill Clinton for that one. Bill Clinton had to work like a dog to get that through. If he had not, Congress would have legislated some very punitive laws banning homosexuality in the military. it was actually quite a coup. I am sorry more people don’t know about that.
Additionally, the health care has been batted around since the days of FDR. It was quite an accomplishment. I think once people understand it better and benefit from it, they will feel silly. Yes it will need to be tweaked.
I left off that Afghanistan was not mentioned during the Republican convention. That was horrible. Those who either like Romney or hate Obama enough will excuse it. The rest of us …not so much.
I left all sorts of no nos off. Please throw in corrections.
I will continue to say, in a nation where “Honey Boo-Boo” gets better ratings than both political conventions, Obama could win! (and those two things are more closely tied than anyone on this blog would like to admit).
They’re weak fiscally, as I see it. They do bomb people occasionally.
This is why I’m voting for Obama!!

@marinm
This nonsense from someone who is throwing away their vote? 🙄
@SlowpokeRodriguez
I have never seen it, thank goodness.
There is always a honey bobo out there. I would just be glad those people aren’t voting or you might end up with Sponge Bob as president one of these days.
@pokie
Denial is so short sighted. Check out the Grand Canyon of Gender Gaps in Virginia.

Hmmmm wonder why that is. You heard it first here and yet, you mocked us and refused to believe. Too heavy handed on the reproductive issues. A little Todd Akin, Cuccinelli and Gov. Ultra-sound go a long way. 19 freaking points.
@SlowpokeRodriguez
I watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (well my child watches it) and was initially horrified. I have come to realize though, while they are very different from me, they are actually nice people who don’t judge others and just want to live their lives. This is not the Housewives of Orange County. My guess is that Honey Boo Boo’s family are Romney voters. This is part of his base.
I thought Honey Boo Boo was made up – never heard of it. The 60’s phrase “boob tube” was just resurrected in my mind. We’re encouraging ourselves to become a nation of absolute idiots.
I think you just proved my point about Obama’s base. I couldn’t have done better myself.
Remarks like that really are uncalled for, pokie.
@Lyssa
See post #10 above yours. Like I said…Obama just might win!
I have to go back to my Godfather quote. “Women can afford to be careless, but not men”. That’s your 19 points, right there!
I forgot to add “and it might just make the difference!”.
Translation: “You’re right, and there’s no believable argument against you, and I don’t like it”
If you think you hear me laughing at you, you are hearing things. I am not laughing. It is someone else.
@bad pokie
@SlowpokeRodriguez
Oh, I’m pretty sure Obama will win. With or without my vote or with our without yours.
I agree that that type of programming is not my cup of tea and I wouldn’t allow children to watch that or anything similar (hey Marim re-check those silly Caldecott picture books for kids too young to read). That said, I don’t like reality shows of any kind, I find them exploitive of those that may not have received good guidance over the years….and certainly think the producers have the advantage in how they are portrayed. Reality shows are just Jerry Springer in various venues….and I would encourage people not to support them for that reason.
@Moon-howler
Yep. Romney left it out of the speech.
Funny how this administration has rarely mentioned it and the press ignores it. When Bush was president, the press had specials that named each casualty. Why did they stop when Obama took office? It couldn’t have been…..political, could it? We’ve been having a huge number of casualties lately. Where’s the concern?
Actually this administration mentions it often, pretty much at every speech.
specials? I don’t know what you are talking about…do you mean naming those who had died in Iraq? It might have gotten to be too many. I believe it stopped long before Obama took office. When you start talking 3000 dead, you are talking about some length to the program.
Why is EVERYthing always a comparison? Why can’t we talk about whats good or bad without a Republican always popping up and saying well back during Bush….?
For the record, the vitriol that was aimed at Clinton has a long memory. That made it a lot harder on Bush. There was a lot of long time resentmentThat is one reason I was glad to see them all become friends.
Where’s the concern? Its there. You want a thread on it? Feel free to use the open thread.
@SlowpokeRodriguez
Can you edify me on why I proved your point about Obama’s base? Is it because I expose my children to other groups through a reality tv show(which in NOVA I think is important) or that I am tolerant of others and how they live? Do you perceive me as wrong on some level? I am confused.
Or anyone else can explain it to me if slowpoke doesn’t want to.
No, I’m a married man.
Give me time. DFW has lousy wifi and typing on my cell phone isn’t my all-time favorite thing to do. Besides I’m worried because I left a female hitch-hiker in the trunk of rental car 🙁
Obama- ahead of Romney 7 points in Ohio
Obama- ahead of Romeny 7 points in VA
58% of VA women support Obama
Romney is in trouble……………….
Could be….Could be. Polls are funny. Did they survey people or people who might actually vote? Did they poll 50% and 50% or did they poll mostly Democrats? I’m not saying I know any of those answers….I’m just saying polls are funny. Where are we, late September. Gonna be a LONG 5 weeks or so. Debates ought to shake things up a little.
I think that the map is going to look like this:
http://www.270towin.com/2012_election_predictions.php?mapid=AAy
Go put out your own map. They are having a contest. Winning map wins money.
@SlowpokeRodriguez
“I’m just saying polls are funny. Where are we, late September. Gonna be a LONG 5 weeks or so. Debates ought to shake things up a little.”
Just keep hoping. That’s what I do. Hope is a powerful force as laid out in the bible.
You never answered my question, what did I prove about Obama’s base?
I don’t disagree with you pokie. Remember how last spring each week there would be a new poll winner.
Democrats have a bad habit of resting on their complacency.
