The mornings are cool and days are sunny.  The nights are cool and crisp.

Ah…my favorite time of year.

A little less than 7 more weeks until the election.  We spend too much time campaigning as a nation.

117 Thoughts to “Open Thread……………………………………Saturday, September 22”

  1. “Y’all better vote for f–king Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing s–t,” she said. “It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, goddamnit.”

I fully expect the Nobel Peace Prize Committee to announce she will be receiving one any day now.

Madonna is ON! Better listen to her!

Interesting how free speech has become front and center lately.

    http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/26/commentator-arrested-for-defacing-anti-jihad-subway-poster/

The columnist, Mona Eltahawy, is a former Reuters correspondent now based in New York who became a dual citizen of Egypt and the United States last year. Her Twitter feed, which has more than 160,000 followers, became popular last year as a source of information on the Egyptian revolution.

    and

The full text of the ad, which refers to a statement by Ms. Geller’s intellectual hero Ayn Rand, reads: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man.” Then, between two Stars of David, the tag line appears: “Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

  3. @Mom

I will give Pete and A for effort on what he has done with the Silver Lake Project. He is the one and only supervisor who has even given a crap.

On the other hand, I totally understand where MoM is coming from. The County ought to be ponying up for all the money needed at Silver Lake. My original premise which I have blasted about for the past several years is, no money for anything in that area, including Rainbow Riding, until the obligations are met for Silver Lake. Nothing that I can see has ever been done.

Obviously, the County feels that hundreds of thousands should be poured into Rainbow Riding

Pete and Pete’s people have done a great deal to make this happen.

  4. If you miss Barbara from Big Love, you can find her on Criminal MInds now. New season. She is now a BAU agent. It took me a minute to place her.

  5. Second Alamo

Modanna is in her black Muslim men phase right now. I’m sure she’ll grow out of it once she hits 65, and gains some maturity. Ironically Muslims are against gays, or so I’ve heard.

    1. Perhaps they will make a spot on the prayer rug for you, SA, since they are also opposed to gays. Some cultures stone them to death. Would you be comfortable going to that extreme?

  6. Second Alamo

Speaking of Obama supporters. I once stated that I heard an interview with Obama supporters back during the election, and someone challenged me to prove what I said about them not having a clue. Well, here’s your up to date proof:

    http://www.westernjournalism.com/howard-stern-exposes-obama-supporters/

Listen and weep for the future.

    1. I expect these folks who were interviewed have equally stupid white counterparts. Most people aren’t informed and don’t want to admit it.

Some of you all sure aren’t shy about being publically racist, are you?

  7. blue

    @Second Alamo

There you go SA, Heeerre’s your sign!

What, you thought the race card had been played out? Ha!

    1. Blue, are you suggesting that some people should be able to make public racist remarks without their peers calling them out on it? It sure sounds like that. Do you have a secret desire to do the same thing?

People aren’t going to ignore things like that just because some folks want to do and say what you want. I grew up in times when that was fairly standard behavior except in houses where people made some attempt to be polite. I was taught that there were certain things I wasn’t to ever repeat in public, even if I heard them in private.

  8. Funny…it was a radio show. How can SA be racist if he can’t see these people? Just because it was Harlem? Don’t white people live in Harlem too?

I keep seeing these when they apply to Obama supporters. I wonder why no one has been able to find one on ANY GOP candidate? Could it be that many Obama supporters have no clue about what Obama supports/is doing/ etc and don’t care and are voting for him for other reasons….like the color of his skin? THAT sounds racist to me.

    1. @Cargo,

When you get to be as old as I am, all your 5 senses will tell you the things you need to know.

Guess which one of my five senses told me a little more about the people being interviewed? If you guessed hearing, you might be right. Don’t play dumb with me.

If nothing else, those asking the questions gave a few hints also.

    2. @Cargo

Think what you want. You think blacks voting for a black president is racist? You say you grew up in New Orleans. Obviously you never paid any attention to politics. People have voted along racial lines since the beginning of the country and no where is it is more obvious than in your home state. Oh, I was including the white people in that statement also.

  9. Elena

There are people on both sides that sound like morons. No question. So? Cargo, you are purposefully being obtuse, how suprising…..NOT. Why is it thatwhite people who vote for white presidential candidates aren’t racist? DUH, do I really need to say the obvious?!

  10. Elena

    Madonna explanation of her comment:

Madonna explaining why she referred to President Obama as “a black Muslim in the White House” in her odd endorsement of him at her concert in Washington Monday night. “I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim — though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. . . The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to.” The star released the explanation to reporters just before midnight Tuesday, guaranteeing this discussion would continue into the next day.

I do understand her broader point, as awkward as she attempted to make her point. I am disgusted that Obama has to continually reaffirm his Christian cred to voters. Who gives a crap if he WERE muslim. I thought it was unconstitutional to have a religious litmus test in order to run for office? Oh, THAT part of the constituion is irrelevant, but second ammendent, whoa, dont eff with that!

    1. who listens to what Madonna has to say? How about Bruyce Springsteen or Bon Jovi? I would listen to them a little more carefully.

  11. @Elena
That is exactly the point. Opposition to Obama has been and is still being called racist.
Second, if one group votes for a candidate, purely because of race…THAT’S RACIST. White or black.

Blacks voting for a black president solely based on race..yes. It is racist. Understandable…but racist. My point is that there is a double standard. And the fact that no one ever finds video of people supporting GOP candidates without SOME knowledge of that candidate.

Yes..I was being willfully obtuse. The people on the radio sounded “black.” But, where else in New York are you assured of a 100% Obama group? These people were supporting Obama purely because of race. If they want to do it…fine. Its a free country. But THEY can’t demonize anyone for being racist without having it thrown in their faces.

Judge a man by his character, not the color of his skin.

I recognize the racism because I saw it in New Orleans. That’s how the crooks stayed in office in the Mayoral races and in the outer parishes. Racism had votes on both sides.

    1. @Cargo

It must have been quite a race to see which race got the most crooks in office. Please just take the racist stuff to your blog. I am tired of dealing with it and your arrogance today is just more than I want to deal with. You are being insuffereable. Hold up a mirror. Reflection time. You are poisoning this blog with your hatred and I am getting complaints.

I don’t care why people vote for someone actually. I know that some of you on here have redefined Republicans for me and it isn’t a good thing.

Of course there will be people voting for Obama because he is black. There are also people who won’t vote for him because he is black. So what.

Its the accompanying verbage on this blog I am finding unacceptable. Truthfully, I feel like I have been infiltrated by the klan.

  12. Btw…since the Benghazi attack has been proven to be a TERRORIST attack, not a “protest” against a video, when is Obama going to admit that Romney was right in that his response was disgraceful? Until just a couple of days ago, even though they knew the truth within 24 hours, they continued the false story that it was a protest. Why isn’t the press hammering the administration on finding out why there was no security?

    1. Romeny was a fool and unfit to be president because of his remarks.

Obama’s response was to the ongoing crisis. He said nothing wrong and you are blowing smoke, as usual.

Cargo, there were protests going on all over the area. Benghazi was not the same as Cairo. There was a protest over a video.

I actually have a splitting headache today from reading your crap. Your hatred is bordering on obsession.

      Please give it a rest.

  13. What was that about “free stuff” for votes? Oh yeah….
    http://youtu.be/tpAOwJvTOio

Btw, notice that at this time,
    Likes = 856
    Dislikes = 301

but the views show ONLY 317

    Something is weird with Google/YouTube

    1. @Cargo

Seriously, do you believe that for real? I would go find some redneck endorsing someone and making a fool of themselves but I am not quite that bored y
Seriously! I am offended that you would stoop that low.

I am opposed to any voter give aways regardless of party. That includes pencils even.

I also don’t believe Obama gave the woman a phone.

  14. SlowpokeRodriguez

I think she’s saying that she will be receiving her new Obama-phone in the future, not that Obama had already given her a phone. Subtle difference.

    1. It doesn’t matter what she says. I can probably go out and find some drunk to say anything. I could also go out and find all sorts of pictures of toothless rednecks praise God, Guns and anti Gays. Is that productive discussion? No, not really.

Elena and I don’t put up over the top things about Republicans and we would like a little consideration in return.

It is not productive and I don’t want to see it.

  15. SlowpokeRodriguez

    Moon-howler :
I actually have a splitting headache today from reading your crap. Your hatred is bordering on obsession.
    Please give it a rest.

Translation: Agree with me or else.

    1. No, stop saying stupid things or else. See above. Hippie statement says it all.

Sorry Slow, most kids nowadays don’t have a mommie and daddy who can just write a check for college costs. Many of them are out working and going to school co-op to get through school. They are tired of rising costs. If working to put yourself through school is hippie, you are really off the mark and living in a time warp.

They don’t deserve to be ridiculed or pepper sprayed for peaceful protest.

If we are talking 1A rights, you support the 1A rights some effen pig who has committed several felonies and who has made a horribly offensive film that stirred up half the middle east and yet you deny students the right to peaceful protest? At least have some consistency.

  16. Furthermore, no one has apologized for putting over the top, biggoted material here.

Just please have a little taste. We are unique in that it is a centrist blog with people of different polticial flavors. Some of you on the right are simply getting far too aggressive with the offensive stuff. You aren’t even making sense.

  17. SlowpokeRodriguez

    @Moon-howler
Oh, you didn’t hear? It wasn’t about the film after all. Apparently Obama LIED, LIED, LIED to us. Go figure! 🙂

    1. Apparently you are being a shallow reader. Think what you want to think. I now understand that discussion simply isn’t possible. The ball is in your court.

    2. @Slow

You have no idea what it was about. Those are the comments I want to stop here. Discussion fine. Calling someone a liar at the top of your lungs–stop doing that.

There were no lies told. The FBI hasn’t even gotten in there yet because the consulate was so compromised. Libya can’t guarantee the security.

      http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/28/world/africa/libya-attack-investigation-hobbled-by-security-fears.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20120928

  18. Second Alamo

Wait a minute here, I paste a link to a radio show interview and because of that I’m racist? You’ve got to be kidding me. Not my fault those interviewed were probably not white. There you go, another ‘protected’ group. You can’t even have an opinion about some without being labeled racist. This gets back to one of my posts last week.

    1. I did not call you a racist. IN fact, I have stopped looking at who says what. Trust me, I can find a redneck to match the crazed black woman in about 5 minutes. Why should we take outliers? Why do we need to mention those people at all?

As I see it, you simply wanted to denigrate Obama supporters?

  19. Second Alamo

Somehow I think the most uneducated ‘redneck’ would know that Romney isn’t black, and if they didn’t they would at least have enough common sense to not answer questions they know nothing about.

    1. Oh dear God, ignorant comes in all colors, shapes and sizes. Please don’t bet money that they have enough common sense to not answer questions they know nothing about. Ever seen the man on the street scenes on Jay Leno?

I do agree that rednecks know Romney isn’t black, but they do think that Obama is a Muslim. What’s the difference?

You are giving too much credit to those who do not deserve it.

  20. @Moon-howler
Its an actual program started under Clinton, and grown under Obama. He made it easier to get a phone and free 250 minutes/month. The original plan was to provide a phone for emergencies.

    1. How did he do that? re Bill Clinton made it easier for everyone to get a phone.

There are no pay phones anywhere any more.

    2. And it was not retracted during the Bush years?

  21. Please just take the racist stuff to your blog.

    RACIST!? HATRED!?

    BULL SH!T!!!

I am not a racist. I am not POSTING RACIST crap. I am not espousing hatred. ARROGANCE? Coming from the person that keeps a holier than thou, putting words in my mouth, knows my intentions/emotions/ etc better than me and keeps saying crap like this after she’s met me, after I’ve proven that I’m not.

You been getting “complaints?” About MY stuff? Then those sheltered little ninnies need to stay off the internet. They might get offended.

Apparently, to you, anyone that doesn’t tread a fine line of bowing down to PC, that doesn’t flee in terror when the “R” word is spread around like fertilizer, is a racist. Thanks for nothing.

    1. I never said you were a racist. Some of your comments have bordered on being racist, in my opinion.

I absolutely think people should practice PC. It is actually called good manners. When people use good manners, everyone is comfortable. It doesn’t matter what they believe. Its how they conduct themselves.

The point is, Cargo, you walk right up to the edge and you show hatred in just about everything you do or say about anything that is not part of your world view. Perhaps you don’t see yourself as others do.

Sheltered little ninnies? Whoa! I think that pretty much says it all. I can’t think of anyone here who I would describe as a sheltered little ninnie. Who? Moe? George Harris? Me?

I think that perhaps in some of your circles you don’t offend, here I consider some of what you say to be offensive. It starts with generic slurs against democrats, rinos, obama supporters, hippies who aren’t hippies and even someone’s lineage. Let’s throw in some apparently crazed black woman and make her everysupporter.

I think you calling Elizabeth Warren a liar simply unacceptable. She owes you nothing. If her family told her who her ancesters were, thats all you need to know. The fact that YOU can’t prove it means nothing. Actually, it isn’t any of your business. In my opinion, your words were arrogant.

Chopping in politics is racial. Sorry. That’s just what it is for. It was to demean and deride Warren. No other reason.

You divide. The point of this blog is to find common ground. There really is none. You have made me see the light.

Maybe we will all just end up killing each other.

  22. marinm

“Sorry Slow, most kids nowadays don’t have a mommie and daddy who can just write a check for college costs.”

Blame the govt for that. As govt funding of educational loans increased so did tuition. Also blame tenured professors with their fat cat pay and benefits.

“They don’t deserve to be ridiculed or pepper sprayed for peaceful protest.”

I agree with MH here. It was a peaceful protest and while they are completely misguided, dumb, and probably need a foot up their collective asses — it should not be the State that does it. They have 1A rights to be asses.

The link I posted above showing one woman spray painting an ad (she’s a liberal contributor and dual citizen) is not a 1A violation. It ought to be a civil tort with criminal charges for damaging public property. Now after she gets hit with the conviction — lets take away her citizenship and ship her back to Egypt.

    1. I have no problem holding someone responsbile for destruction or defacing public property. There are limits to 1A rights, starting with other people’s belongings. You can burn YOUR flag but not mine.

I wouldn’t strip citizenship for graffitti.

Why do you resent..and yes, I hear resentment for people protesting higher college costs? Why do you think they are misguided? what do you know about them personally that would say that? Do I need to include college students in the list of people who need shunning? I am sure some do but the broad brush is a little much.

I wasn’t blaming anyone for college costs going up. That is absurd. You are aware that some of those students probably work part time and go to school part time?

If there aren’t college loans and people don’t have the money, what is your solution?

  23. marinm

Speaking of Madonna and the ME..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCXHPKhRCVg&feature=player_embedded

    “A word to rioting Muslims”

To my liberal friends and anti-1A friends.. You may want to avoid listening to this Brit.

    1. Why do you feel the need to post that on this blog?

I see no point in poking a stick in the eye of anyone. Why would I want to go stir up the ignorant? I find the video horribly offensive.

Elena and I are the owners of the 1A rights here.

Please explain to me the reason yuo felt the need to post that man’s opinion on our blog? Is he a friend of yours? A relative? Why would we care about his broad brush opinion? I am not interested in Maddonna or this dude.

  24. It starts with generic slurs against democrats, rinos, obama supporters, hippies who aren’t hippies and even someone’s lineage.

    Let’s examine my “generic slurs.”

    One…show me a “rino” that I’ve said.
Two… making fun of the other’s supporters for dumb things…you do it too.
Three…. hippies… we each have our own definition. Occupy is the modern hippy.
Four…. someone’s lineage. I have said NOTHING derogatory about anyone’s lineage. I HAVE said something derogatory about Warren’s honesty in continuing to portray herself as an Indian, and using racial cliches to do so….., when its been shown that there is NO evidence.
Five….. If you tell me to take “racist crap” and “hatred” somewhere, you are calling me a racist. I am color blind to race as best that I can be. In fact, where is this so-called racist stuff that I’m putting up? “Truthfully, I feel like I have been infiltrated by the klan.” If this is about me…show me the evidence.

And your “hatred” is non-existent. I am criticizing the actions of a politician that lied to the American public and criticized his opponent for something that HE, HIMSELF was doing. But you won’t believe me. Apparently any criticisms that I put up are “hatred.”

Where is YOUR outrage to these problems in tLibya and the man who is responsible for the security? You had enough for Romney, but you let the Democrats get away with everything. God forbid we criticize the President for being dishonest or failing. The buck stops there…kinda…… to paraphrase Obama.

    1. Cargo, you are not the only one and I am not going to have line item discussion on everything that has pissed me off today. Youwill have an excuse for everything.

  25. marinm

    @Moon-howler

“Why do you feel the need to post that on this blog?”

I think it drives home a point – well put by someone that’s obviously not racist – that we tolerate so much for nothing in return. I think it jives well with the Madonna, racism, and terrorist strike (oh no lets blame it on a youtube video like this one) posts above.

If you disagree and/or you don’t agree with the video, kill the post. Won’t hurt my feelings at all. But, I think he does make many intelligent points that can be debated.

“Why would I want to go stir up the ignorant?”

Not sure how to take that. The subject of the video or people that may agree with the man?

“Please explain to me the reason yuo felt the need to post that man’s opinion on our blog?”

I think the topic and his points can be debated in a civil manner.

“Is he a friend of yours? A relative?”

Don’t know him for Adam. Usually I’d say Brits are full of crap and I could care less about anything said by a non-American. In this case he brings up some good points.

“Why would we care about his broad brush opinion?”

Some people may agree. Others not. But as you said it is only an opinion that can and ought to be debated.

    1. I think he is extremely biased. If he wasn’t. Why would he go to the trouble of doing all that. I don’t know that I would say disliking somone over there religion is racist but its something.

I don’t care what Madonna things and actually, I don’t really think going against any religion is a real decent thing to do. I have my private opinions. I am not sure it serves any purpose to do that. No one is asking me to convert.

I am simply dumbfounded that you think that man is…without bias.

What I am also finding unbelievable is the binary thinking showing up once again.

There are protests going on all over the middle east. In particular we need to be concerned about the ones at our embassy.

All of a sudden I am expected to think all were well orchestrated attacks on our embassy in Cairo? From everything I have read, that one was not terrorist.

Thank goodness the Obama administration investigated rather than shooting off at the mouth.

  26. marinm

“Why do you resent..and yes, I hear resentment for people protesting higher college costs?”

Not resentment. Mockery. I think its a first world problem that is self-inflicted. I also mock the very idea that people ‘have’ to go to college to get a ‘good job’.

“Do I need to include college students in the list of people who need shunning?”

People that think they ought to go to college and never pay for it, have taxpayers pay for it, or don’t recognize that the costs keep rising because of government intervention.

“You are aware that some of those students probably work part time and go to school part time?”

I have no issue with them.

“If there aren’t college loans and people don’t have the money, what is your solution?”

I didn’t say anything about private loans. I only said government backed loans. The govt should not be involved in educational loans. Tighten up the money supply and tuition will drop as schools will have to compete for a smaller pool of money.

    1. Ah so I was on to something. You mock people who go to college? Maybe they want to go to college. Many jobs people want to do require college.

People don’t think they should go to college and not pay for it. UC Davis is a state supported school. In a civilized society, there is higher education provided by the state. Let’s just call it an American tradition.

I actually can’t have a discussion with someone who thinks higher education is worthless.

My only point is peaceful protest shouldn’t be met with pepper spray. I stand by that. I approve of government backed loans if it enables deserving students to go to college. I also don’t believe everyone needs to be in college.

  27. SlowpokeRodriguez

Flying back into Dulles tonight was crappy timing, let me tell ya. I can also tell you I’ve seen the rest of the Eastern United States tonight. And of course, it couldn’t be on a 777…..no I had to get stuck on a CRJ for hours and hours and hours.

  28. Romney skipped a step yesterday. He criticized President Obama for cutting a deal with Republicans to slash cuts the defense spending. As I recall, the only reason the Prez did that was to free up the debt ceiling money. Default on the bills or cut a deal with the Republicans.
