The mornings are cool and days are sunny.  The nights are cool and crisp.

Ah…my favorite time of year.

A little less than 7 more weeks until the election.  We spend too much time campaigning as a nation.

Full Moons:  Sept. 30, Oct. 29

  1. SlowpokeRodriguez

My favorite time of year, too. It’s not even close anymore.

  2. I believe I am watching something that is going to give me a stroke. netflix. A Perfect Candidate

arrggghhhh. I just saw everyone going to watch Ollie North shoot. There is a kid, i would guess less than 8 years gold, socker uniform, with a kid size rifle. Someone asks the kid what he wants to shoot. He lifts the gun and says Democrats. The small crowd cheers the kid.

I also got to see the convention where I was knocked to the ground. June, 1994. Its good to see these things …in case one forgets why they feel like they do.

An 8 year old kid wants to shoot Democrats? The parents should be arrested for letting him walk around with that gun.

  3. Cato the Elder

    Smart kid.

    1. No. Absolutely not a smart kid. His parents should be jailed for allowing what I saw.

Kids should not think it is ok to shoot anyone.

  4. Lyssa

The equivalent to 8 year old watching Honey Boo Boo….no wonder we’re growing angry and idiots and angry idiots.

    1. Lyssa, you are being too sympathetic. The Republicans have had 4 years to present a candidate that would appeal to conservatives and moderates.

The fringe lunatics can’t take a moderate person or a person who has some traits they like …they want the whole thing or they primary the normal person out and keep some D-bag like Mr. Legitimate Rape. Now that person isn’t normal.

I really HATE that mentality. The John Birch look a like will never get elected and it poisons the well. You have prfectly normal people…yes, you know who you are, chanting some horse puckey and insisting on electing some fool who is frankly, unelectible.

My problem with that is hearing all the whining.

There is really something wrong when I have to turn off Faux News worshiping some idiot and I am relieved to hear Al Sharpton. Now that is not a normal reaction!!!

  5. Lyssa

Bite your tongue. Did you miss this – Yesterday Sharpton said, “As for the one Mormon running for office. Those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways. So don’t worry about that, that’s a temporary situation.”

Well they’d better get their acts together and realize that those spreading the “hopey changy” sneer blew it for them. Registered Republicans make up about 33% of the US registered voters. Looking at numbers alone how do they think they can refuse to compromise. I’ve been with them – they all think they’ll just hold their noses and pretend to like the wanna be’s that don’t look like them..I couldn’t stand it.

    Goldwater is looking great!

    1. From my perspective, Barry AuH2O had a view issues that no good southern woman wants shackled to her.

I didn’t hear Sharpton say whatever that meant. i would rather hear him than the Foxies Fools.

  6. Well, we have some ideological disagreements, but that’s what primaries are for. And so we picked the moderate.

What’s the Democrat’s excuse? The Democrats have had almost 4 years to pick someone competent.

    1. They apparently feel he is competent as do non-democrats.

You might have picked a moderate but what you ended up with is someone who appears to not have real convictions other than getting elected. He sure isn’t promising to be moderate.

  7. Lyssa

If youre refering to Civil Rights Leglslation Goldwater didn’t support government nvolvement. He wasn’t against the concept. Remember now, he was pro choice.

    1. I am referring to the fact that he was the darling of the anti-desegregation south.
I have spent a lifetime distancing myself from Barry Goldwarer. Its too late for me to change and plus he’s dead.
      Nothing in it for me.

  8. Lyssa

Let me re-phrase that – he was against government involvement with regard to abortion.

  9. Second Alamo

“Kids should not think it is ok to shoot anyone.”, and then we send them to war to shoot everyone!
And you wonder why so many returning GIs have mental struggles.

  10. Lyssa

    @Moon-howler

Because they misunderstood his reluctance to support civil rights. He is dead.

    1. He was the fair haired child of the south who wanted to remain segregated. Not talking Klan here.

    OBIT

The panda cub has died. Report fr Nat’l Zoo today.

    1. Awwwww…well…nature has a way of handling stuff like this.

    Ruined my day…..thanks.

Interesting inviews with both Obama and Romney on “60 minutes” tonight.
Was delayed one hour due to football game.

(Oakland defeated the Steelers in the very last seconds of the game)

  14. Marinm

Woohoo!! One step closer to allowing EMTs in Virginia to be armed at work!!!

Soon well have one less victim disarmament zone.

  15. kelly_3406

Has anybody heard the outrage over Obama’s reference on ’60 Minutes’ to recent Middle East violence as a “bump in the road?”

Of course not. It’s a trick question. The media would be outraged only if Romney said it.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-calls-recent-middle-east-violence-bumps-road_652971.html

    1. More of that Republican victimization. What was the entire paragraph said by Obama?

  16. SlowpokeRodriguez

I love the stories I’m hearing now about how the banks are jacking up fees on customers to get around all of Obama’s legislation. Told ya’.

    1. I hope Elizabeth Warren gets every last one of the greedy bastards.

  17. Marinm

    @kelly_3406

Does that mean killing an American diplomat is seen by the administration as just noise? Distracting from the big important issues; like campaigning?

    1. Putting words in someone’s mouth?

  18. Cato the Elder

    Moon-howler :
I hope Elizabeth Warren gets every last one of the greedy bastards.

I’m sure she will, right after she gets her law license.

  19. punchak

There’s a long report at Bearing Drift about Donald Trump speaking
    at Falwell’s Liberty U. Yes, Liberty U.!!!

  20. marinm

    @Cato the Elder

Those that can, do. Those that can’t – teach at Harvard Law without a license. But, I’m sure Dean Kagan was unaware…

I’m confident that Prof Warren will lead an effort to provide better consumer protection in the area of unlicensed professionals providing services to the public outside of Government regulation and scrutiny.

    Moon-howler :
I hope Elizabeth Warren gets every last one of the greedy bastards.

    Yeah, scalp ’em, Elizabeth!!

  22. SlowpokeRodriguez

Finally, a good reason to oppose gay marriage. If we give them an inch, they will demand a mile. Will Americans wake up in time to prevent every special interest from using Political Correctness against us?

  23. Lafayette

Nice to see some good things on the BoS meeting today. One hero from Dumfries, and El Fuego and their concerns for hunger in our county.

  24. Lafayette

Mr. Dawson’s back!! Now, where’s Mr. Wills?

  25. Starryflights

“Defeat is the only thing fanatics understand. And defeat is something the remaining Republican moderates can build on. If you are a Republican who wants to see your party return to the center, reelecting Obama is the single most effective thing you can do. Look what Reagan’s success did to the Democrats: it gave us the centrist Bill Clinton. A future centrist Republican president is out there somewhere—but electing Romney-Ryan would strand him or her further out in the wilderness.”

Conservative stalwart Andrew Sullivan in today’s Newsweek

  26. Mom

Braaack, Outcome Based Budgeting, translation, Peacor gets to make every decision with no oversight and no continuity in accounting from year to year. Now I understand why PWC’s budget situation is so completely effed up. Petey, you better say something because no successful private enterprise I know of operates this way.

  27. Starryflights

    Peggy Noonan:

But: The Romney campaign has to get turned around. This week I called it incompetent, but only because I was being polite. I really meant “rolling calamity.”

It’s not illegal you morons, its a function of how you do the tax. If you only re-assess all properties periodically (like most other counties) instead of annually, it is easy to keep the tax paid on individual properties flat. What, is everybody up there an effing moron or are they just assuming we are effing morons.

  29. Mom

Wally must want this real bad, he wants to screw his constituent right now and not give him the benefit of the entire BOCS hearing and considering their position. Blazer seems a little overeager as well, and now Marty to the rescue.

  30. Mom

And now, testing the winds, looking for a better deal, the Queen of Dumfries.

  31. Mom

Oh God, would someone please shut her up.

  32. Mom

Looks like Petey is beginning to figure out how the county squirrels money away.

  33. Delegate Bell is NOT from Albemarle Co. I believe he is a Staunton boy. Obenshain is from over there also.

Corey, was struggling there with that one. Is he must think he is the Duke of F*cking ham. bwaaaahahahahahahahaahahaahahahah

Tell me, MoM, is he the Duke or the Crown Prince? I have never laughed so hard in my life.

  34. Jumping median household incomes!

I want to know where these jobs are?

  35. Mom

    @Moon-howler
I’m going to give Corey a break on this, for once he’s on the right side of an issue and a losing vote (eminent domain).

  36. I am not against him on it. He just needed to get his peeps straight.

  37. Mom

On a similar note, I was wondering why Peter was so complimentary to the Town of Haymarket, until I saw their agenda for the next meeting:

TO: Town of Haymarket Town Council
    SUBJECT: Request from Supervisor Candland
    DATE: 10/01/12
Prince William County Supervisor Peter Candland is requesting that the Town consider using
Proffer money earmarked for Parks and Recreation for the Revitalization of Silver Lake Park.
Supervisor Candland will attend the meeting to discuss the request with the Council.
    BACKGROUND
Supervisor Candland is part of the Silver Lake Revitalization Coalition which is raising funds for the Silver Lake Service Day to take Place on Saturday October 13. A flier for the event is attached as well as a cover email from Supervisor Candland’s office.
Also attached is a schedule of the proffer money received from the Alexandra’s Keep project. Based on the requirements of the proffer statement, $54,000.00 is available for Parks and Recreation Projects. An additional amount might also be available from the “Escalator” total of $23,802.00.
The Coalition is requesting financial assistance from the Town to fund the Day of Service.
    RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Town Council review this request and make a determination of whether to
assist with the funding of the Day of Service and, if so, decide on a dollar amount to provide.

So, let me get this straight, the County spends tax dollars on Rainbow Riding, foregoes their responsibilities for Silver Lake and then asks the Town, whose residents already pay County taxes, to help pay for Silver Lake. I hope they tell the County to eff off.

  38. MoM, its very difficult for me to take any of this seriously now. All the warring factions have my eyes glazing over. I am just going to laugh about what Corey supposedly says.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t listen to gossip but its getting entertaining at this point. It doesn’t matter if it is true or not. All of this is pretend.

Meanwhile, the Democrats aren’t even sure who is running. Probably the Republicans aren’t sure either but at least its over a year away.

Please, don’t anyone ask me to take anything seriously.

Meanwhile, Pete is to be commended for his efforts on Silver Lake. He really is to be commended for trying to make something out of nothing. It sounds like that committee’s efforts are turning in to something good.

Meanwhile, Elena and I contend that Silver Lake Park probably needs a little money thrown its way.

  39. Lafayette

The county had plenty of opportunties, ie Bull Run Conserv. to have this park up and running. As it is now, there are not even trash cans there. Give me a break. I sure hope the Town doesn’t fall for this cry for $$.

I think donating to the Haymarket Food Closet would be a MUCH better way to celebrate a Service Day.

    1. Good things are being done to Silver Lake, thanks to Team Candland and its volunteers.

Lafayette, if there is something in particular you want to see out there we can channel it the way of those doing the moving and the shaking.

  40. Mom

    @Lafayette
Hey there, its the Haymarket Food Pantry, much larger than a closet.

  41. Lafayette

    @Mom
Well, I’m glad to know the town has the bigger of the two.

  42. Mom

    @Moon

Life has apparently returned to normal in C-Ville, so fill your cups your loving cups as full as full can be.

    http://www.playboy.com/playground/view/top-10-party-schools

    1. Mr. Howler already came through, heralding the news. I think he is jealous since he isn’t a C-Ville boy. He is a Terp.

Now if you are a townie, it just means more students barfing in the bushes.

I wonder who will be celebrating tonight? I hope that Dragas gets the boot and I don’t mean a boot of beer.

      Go Sullivan!

  43. Mom

    @Moon-howler
Pardon me, fine upstanding Gentlemen from Mr. Jefferson’s university only “boot” in the bushes surrounding Mad Bowl. Townie properties are reserved for hunting for slump busters and the annual midnight search for a fraternity Christmas Tree or in AEPi’s case a Hannukah Bush.

    1. Grady avenue will never be the same nor will Beta Bridge or finger bridge.

  44. Now the Republicans have something else to worry about. There is now a danger that they will lose the house also. Not high probability but there is a chance.

Where is all that bravado and knowing all the answers? They were coming to town to solve the world’s problems. Yea, right. They have done nothing but stir up a few old tired anti abortion bills.

Tell me something else they have accomplished.

  45. Cato the Elder

Kind of hard to get things done when the Senate refuses to even debate the House bills and the press doesn’t cover them.
