Hell if I know. We have been sitting around, as Americans, all grossing and complaining about Congress. I believe it is called the “do nothing Congress.” It has a ridiculous approval rating of something like 10%. So, what are we here in Virginia, in Prince William County, doing about this, if anything? I need to know who is running.
I think my Congressman is Frank Wolf. I think I am also about to lose him. Elena will keep him. Who is challenging him if anyone? After much research I discovered that a lady named Kristin Cabral is challenging Wolf. I think I am in Congressional District One. What could I possibly have in common with people living in New Port News? Nada.
Who is Robert Wittman? I have no freaking clue. I think he might be the Republican incumbent of District 1. I have deducted that Adam Cook is the Democratic candidate.
I haven’t heard Jack Sprat from either of them. No mailer, no nothing. Where are the Democrats on this one? Someone is asleep at the switch. I think its the democratic someones. It’s always easier being the incumbent.
The question out there, what are the Prince William County Democrats doing about this congressional election? Nothing? How typical.
PWC Democrats, if you want to be a viable force in this county, you have to move beyond Lillie Jessie being the featured candidate.
Adam Cook is a veteran and a first time candidate. Kris Cabral is a lawyer and also a first time candidate. I have met both of them numerous times and this weekend was passing out Adam Cook pieces along with Kaine’s when I was knocking doors in Manassas. The vast majority of Kris Cabral’s district is in Loudoun County and her campaign headquarters are there. The PWC Dems have been supporting both of these candidates. Could they do more? Yes, I completely agree. They have been doing a great job supporting Kaine, though.
Quite frankly, no pun intended, Frank Wolf is a 30 year incumbent who is very difficult to defeat and some would say impossible. It is difficult to muster financial, party and human resource support in an environment people perceive as hopeless so I give Kris Cabral credit for giving it a try. When Frank Wolf retires in two years at least 20 Republicans will jockey for his seat as will numerous Democrats. Kris Cabral will have had her name out there and at least it will help.
I don’t know about Rob Wittman vs. Adam Cook, but I do know that substantial redistricting gives Adam Cook a chance to knock off an incumbent because so much of District 1 is new (and more leaning Democratic I think).
Yes, I agree about Kaine. In fact, my husband is doing his part for Team Kaine. That is where he is at the moment. Off being a Kaine volunteer. I am not sure if Kaine is supporting PW or PW is supporting Kaine.
I just shouldn’t have to dig so deep to get candidate information. If this were the first time I had encountered ball dropping, I would let it slide. Unfortunately, it isn’t. It’s pretty difficult to take back your state if you have to do a lot of research to even find out who is running.
Frankly, I forgot we had a congressional race.
It seems with 400+ congressional races nationwide the national Democratic Party picks and chooses who they support. Without the financial backing from the DCCC it is hard to encourage other large donors. They want to know you have a chance. It costs at least $250k to run a good race. The local PWC Dems can’t help with that at all.
Money is corrupting politics. The superpacs made it worse but it was already bad.
I think Kaine is great. I think he seems honest and sincere when he says he wants to work with everyone. He will win those people who say they vote for the person not the party and actually mean it.
@Watching, I agree that Kaine is great and I am glad he has an office here.
My problem with the local Democrats is that this is a way of life. Ask me why I am no longer a Democrat? 🙄 I am tired of having to do research on who is running for election.
It is a local way of life, not an accident. Why does the Democratic party have no foothold in the county? Well, because none of the races are ever deemed important except by a few.
Who did the local Democrats run against Corey? I rest my case. We had one real race and that candidate fought the good fight. But they can’t do it alone. Oh let me go out on a limb and say that I am not sure the local Democrats even know there is a western end of the county.
This isn’t new. I would say its been like this for 20 years.
Sometimes peer pressure has to do with it.
Seriously, if I wanted to to live amongst democrats I would have to move.
It makes me sick. People might ask why I don’t do something myself. Been there, done that. Baton passed. Ancient history.
Then there is Krystal Ball. Krystal ran for the first congressional district. I expect she gets more satisfaction from her TV job than she ever would from running for office now.
She saw how nasty things get. She was a first time candidate also. The men tend to take delight in tawdry attacks on the women candidates whether it is Krystal, Jeanette, or Toddy. Its always tawdry.
The last laugh from Krystal is that she has a very good paying job and has gained all sorts of national recognition and a name for herself. She has only improved in her political rhetoric.
Our local blogger boys should be ashamed of themselves for being juvenile, disrespectful of someone’s wife, and general bullies. We know the rage that would follow if someone spoke of their wife or daughter in such vile terms.
If Krystal choses to run, she will be unstoppable, I suspect.
@Moon-howler
Kaine was the DNC chair at the same time that he was governor. You cannot get any more political than that. That is completely disqualifying in my view.
As for Kris Cabral, yet another lawyer running for Congress. Just what we need …..
Mark Warner is the prototypical candidate that gets support from those who vote for the person rather than the party. I actually voted for him. When he comes up for his next election (whether it is senator or governor), he may have lost that ability, because he followed the party line and voted for Obamacare. In my eyes, he has now lost that independent veneer.
