Showtime’s “Homeland” wins the Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmies
“Homeland” took home the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy at the 2012 Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awards in Los Angeles Sunday night. The cerebral Showtime drama beat out four-time winner “Mad Men,” as well as its network companion “Breaking Bad,” PBS’ “Downton Abbey,” and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” and “Game of Thrones.”
Cheer! Roar!! Encore!!!
Has anyone ever seen this show? What’s it about? Is it just me and you all haven’t told me about “Homeland?” I freely admit I am humorless and don’t like comedy. Is that it? Its a comedy? I love Boardwalk and Downton Abby. Mad Men is fun. I loved Newsroom which wasn’t even in the running.
Help is on the way. Showtimeanytime.com is Showtime’s version of portable movies if you subscribe on your TV. It is the Showtime equivalent of HBOgo.com. You can catch up and watch it on your smartphone or ipad during lunch. I am going to have to do this.
Has anyone watched it? If it is up there with Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire, I needed to know about it before this.
Pssst! its a spook show and deals with CIA operatives.
The award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series went again, for the 10th year to Jon Stewart, who played the quintessential horse’s ass, yet again:

Ryan offends seniors at the AARP Convention
According to the LATimes.com, “under the Republican approach to Medicare, the next generation of seniors, those now 55 years old and younger, would be given a fixed stipend to buy health insurance.”
That’s going to take a mighty big stipend. Are they nuts? Where are the guarantees?
On Friday:
Mitt Romney‘s running mate, Paul Ryan, was booed at the annual AARP convention after saying that, if elected, their Republican administration would repeal the nation’s healthcare law as the best way to save Medicare.
Just five minutes into his talk at the gathering of the powerful 50-and-older lobby on Friday, the architect of the Republican proposal to change Medicare for the next generation of seniors was repeatedly interrupted as he criticized President Obama’s healthcare law.
Things got worse by the time Ryan said they would repeal “Obamacare.” He thought he could explain what he was talking about but the AARP conventioners would have none of that. The booes persisted and some in the audience shouted that Ryan was a liar. Some finally marched out on Ryan.
Just Hangin’ Out With 12 Thousand of My Closest Friends Today!
What an amazing day! As usual, the people I meet at Obama events are so wonderful. From all different walks of life, from very young to the wise seniors, I made many new “friends.” The diversity was a true respresentation, not only of this county, but the United States itself.
People were courteous and helpful, being short, it was truly challenging getting any pictures, so this very nice young man was more than happy to offer to take pictures for me (he was at least 6 feet tall!) Originally from the Richmond area, he moved to Loudon County after graduating with his MBA. He was raised by his hard working mom who was, from his description growing up, one of those 47% that Romney dismisses, the working poor. He was really such a nice young man who understood the meaning of hard work and sacrifice.
Jill sees Joe up close
It’s easy to see why people love this popular couple. Of all the speeches at the DNC Convention, Joe’s speech got top billing. He is seen as down to earth and approachable.
Obama comes to Prince William County
This morning President Barack Obama will arrive at Pfitzner stadium for a rally. He will arrive later in the morning. The gates will open at 9:30. Attendees can catch a shuttle from the Fairgrounds in Manassas as parking is limited or they can toture themselves and drive out there.
Obama finished up his last campaign at those very Fairgrounds the night before the election in 2008.
Elena will be representing us at the rally. Go Elena go.
Mrs. Obama was in Woodbridge about 2 weeks ago and she appeared at The University of Mary Washington last week. 3 weeks ago one of the Obama girls visited Splash Down for a day of fun. Lafayette’s daughter who works at the water park talked with her.
Elena will report in via the Bat-phone.
Remembering Antietam
September 17 marked the 150th anniversary of the bloodiest battle in the Civil War. It was also the first battle where Americans also got to see their war dead. They were horrified.
Perhaps we should all reflect on what happens when words run out–when debate is no longer civil–and when nothing we say matters.–when Americans kill Americans.
I can’t help thinking about these times when elections get to the point where friends can’t talk. Is this what happened to our forebearers?
Is there a chance things could ever come to blows like this again?
Kaine/Allen Debate
Every once in a while you get to hear some real substance. I actually enjoyed this one. There was a little finger pointing but overall, I learned something about each candidate.
The debate is an hour but worth a listen if you have the time.
Did you hear a specific issue to address?
Tim Kaine tried to address the sequester. So did George Allen. That is certainly something people in our area need to address. Kaine was challenged to give a plan. He did.

Did you know G-d was running for office on the Romney ticket?
So, I was driving my kids to their respective after school activities yesterday, when all of a sudden, I see, in the bleakness of crabgrass growing on the easement, a sign, white background, bold red print and it says “OBAMA OUT, G-D IN, VOTE ROMNEY .” I was so irritated I couldn’t stand it, I had to yell out in the car, “Kids, THAT is offensive, to suggest that people who vote for Obama vote against G-d.” I continued my explanation that G-d is neither Republican or Democrat, and certainly NOT interested in political parties ,but, instead, concerned about about our own personal behavior towards one another.
Apparently these signs were all over the Haymarket area, by the entrance to the Boy Scouts Camp, Camp Schneider, all along route 15, even lining James Long Park.
Do people actually believe this kind of exclusionary message works? Do people believe it will draw more votes?
My ten year old son said it best last night. He said, “Mom, listen, when people say mean things it pushes other people away. Maybe that is why John McCain lost, he said things that pushed people away. I don’t even think Mitt Romney would approve of those signs. You should be glad they are up, all it does it make those people look bad and make people not want to vote for Romney.”
Whether those signs will have that effect, I don’t know, but, as I contemplated my son’s grown up words, I realized, even more importantly than this election, I have a wise and thoughtful kid.
Out of the mouth of babes……..
Chaos on Bulls#%t Mountain
Oh the Habitat for Humanity! Romney campaign sabotaged by Jimmy Carter’s grandson. “Its not the most ideal language to be eavesdropped on…” Faux News says its true, even it it hurts. Stop Foxies!!! You are talking about most of the people who watch your show!!!!
There are no rules on Bulls#%t Mountain! Obama was caught on tape back in 98! That’s 1998. That’s more than 14 Mays ago.
Government handouts! Let’s see that might be social security check, a disability check for being a wounded vet. Double trouble.
If the denizens of bulls#%t mountains have success they built it. If they fail, the government ruined it for them…. Unlike the moocher class who is just sitting around waiting for a hand out.
Cognitive Dissonance.
GOP–keeps making it easy!
We are over here cheering on the GOP. They keep shooting themselves in the foot, keep trying to blame Obama, and then go back for some more ammunition.
Why Moon, what are you talking about? [eyeing the empty chair] Every time the GOP takes a hit for their 19th century base, they nudge Obama and Tim Kaine closer to the finish line. Let’s face it. Some of this base that GOP candidates are trying appease wouldn’t be pleased unless all Virginia women were barefoot and pregnant and the men folks were wearing horsehair shirts.
Request: Blog Topic–what’s bugging you about the election?
I got an email today with a request. I will share it:
How about a blog thread on what’s irking us the most about the election. Most people say the negative TV ads. I don’t care about those. I just mentally tune them out. However, I’m getting constant calls, often robocalls, from pollsters, or at least people claiming to be pollsters. I assume some of them are. I refuse to answer and hang up. That’s one Romney vote not counted in the poll.
That seems like a fair topic. Mr. Howler got one last night that said they would only take 15 minutes. Get serious. I had one that started off with a lie about Obama. I cursed that person. Do they want MY opinion or not.
Have at it. The person who suggested it can tell on themselves, or not.
