Massive Development Proposal Hidden from County Residents?

update:meeting will be held at Piney Branch Elementary School on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm

Lets rewind, back to 2006,  to a little ole, 7,000 thousand home development called Brentswood in the Gainesville/Brentsville District.  If I close my eyes, I can still see this amazing convergence of Republicans and Democrats coming out, officially, to oppose the first incarnation of Brentswood.  Who was at the forefront leading the charge to oppose THAT massive rezoning?  Well, my dear friend, Corey Stewart, who, at the time, was only an Occoquan Supervisor, not the big powerful Chairman that he is today.

Get ready people, October 9th might be go time!

Citizens knew that Wally Covington was making promises during his close primary with Jeanine Lawson.  One of them was to the residents of Victory Lakes.  What was the promise you may be asking?  A new high school.  Who cares if you have to screw an entire county to get it, a promise made is a promise kept during election season!

The tooth fairy and other financial indicators

The tooth fairy has gotten a lot more generous than when I was a child.  I can remember getting a dime under my pillow for every lost tooth.  Man, did I get cheated.  Do you know that the average tooth fairy sprinking is now $3.00 per tooth?  I am no spring chicken so perhaps the now/then is pretty stark.  A lot can happen in a half century.

In more recent times, we have been asked to compare 2008 to now.  The entire Republican  convention tried to paint a dismal picture of our well-being.   Often that question came  in the form of …ASK YOURSELF, ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW, AFTER 4 YEARS OF BARACK OBAMA OR IN 2008?  The Republicans would have us believe we are worse off.

Something the Republicans didn’t advertise–Homocon

Gay Republicans party at “Homocon,” a bash thrown by pro-gay rights conservative group GOProud at the Republican National Convention was the best kept secret in Ameria.  Its great to see that the Republicans aren’t really as homophobic as the press would have us believe.  These folks look like they are having a great time.  Former Rep. Mark Foley attended.  Grover Norquist dropped by also to give his pitch.  I think Grover is straight.

I don’t think that the Family Research Council dropped by.

As stated above, Goproud.org was the sponsor of the party. They have been a deal breaker for some of the values groups at some of the conservative conventions.   I personally don’t see why a gay person would want to be a Republican.  But many do.  The Log Cabin Republicans have been around a long time.  I have a gay friend who is about as Republican as you can get.  It just makes no sense to me at all.  I continually ask him why he contributes to his own oppression.  He just laughs and sends more offensive Obama email.

Why would anyone gay, lesbian or transgendered want to be a Republican?  So many in the GOP seem to eschew everything gay.

Virginia’s Voter ID Requirements

Here are Virginia’s most recent voting requirements. Note, you will no longer be allowed to come in without ID and sign an affidavit.

Under the previous Virginia law, voting officials could require identification at the polls, but was it not required.  It was a felony to lie. This past year, the General Assembly passed legislation that requires all voters to present one of the following to vote: a voter registration card, social security card, a valid Virginia driver’s license or government ID, passport, valid Virginia student ID, employer photo ID, utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck that shows the voters name and address.

DOJ has blocked voter identification changes in several southern states, but cleared Virginia’s voting law changes this week.   Our law allows a broader number of documents to establish identity.

Everyone should have their new voter ID card from the State Board of Elections also.

I can’t think of a reason why anyone wouldn’t have one of those forms, regardless of how old or poor they are.   Perhaps I have overlooked something.
