104 Thoughts to “Open Thread……………………………………………………………Friday, October 19”

  1. Last election (2008) Obama/Biden won by 234,527 votes. There were approximately 40,000 votes for the smaller parties combined.

Will Blue hold or will Red take over that difference of just under a quarter million votes?

  2. Colin Powell endorsed Obama for the 2nd term.

  3. blue

    @Moon-howler

I hold Collin Powell responsible for the 1st term election failure

  4. VA New Majority just sent out the following:

Group Mobilizes 140,000 Voters That May Prove Decisive in November

Unlikely people of color, women, and senior voters at the heart of statewide electoral effort

  5. With less than two weeks to Election Day, chalk up another high-dollar donation from an out-of-state billionaire to the pro-George Allen super PAC, Independence Virginia. On Wednesday, Independence Virginia PAC reported a $1.5 million donation from Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. The huge cash drop comes on the heels of $1 million (in four contributions) to the same super PAC from Texas home-builder Bob Perry just weeks ago.

Why do you republicans support Citizens United? I guess because you all have most of the rich guys.

I hold the managers of this blog in high esteem for not allowing the type of personal vendetta seen on another blog to be present here. There is very little if any factual information and everything is spun to suit the hatred that these multiple managers post. At this point my regard for “their” personal supervisor Candland is greatly diminished. “The company we keep…..”

Besides Robin Hood was the hero. The villan – we know who that was.

Someone should find new friends – and maybe a little background check would be a good idea.

Whaat is it you wanted him to do that he didn’t do, Slowpoke? Did you write and tell him of your great scheme?
    Stick to topic.

I’m not telling you how to run your blog….but this is the open thread. Or do the rules only apply to non-hyper-lefties?

    1. Sorry…I thought you were elsewhere. You are right, I am wrong. Savor those words. You wont have them often.

  8. @Moon-howler
Actually, no. If you check the records… the Democrats are winning that race. But its close. We support Citizens United because it overturned McCain’s travesty of bill.

    1. It allows all sorts of secret money into the election process. I really like people electing our politicians, not corporations and secret clubs. I feel like we are losing our country. For the record, I am not wild about unions having a free for all either.

      @cargo

I think the race is neck and neck.

So for those keeping track, we’ve got Chavez, Powell, Castro, and Putin all rooting for Obama. Hell of a crowd!!

Wouldn’t worry about it….I’ve said it too…..the sting goes away with time 🙂

  11. @Moon-howler
How about allowing individuals to spend as much money as they want, but it has to be in public records? To whom and how much?

Do you support money being spent by advocacy groups?

  12. @SlowpokeRodriguez
This is my shocked face. Who else would a Democrat support?

  13. “Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region,” reported the business wire service.

Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia and president of the Jeep brand, told Bloomberg, “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio” to China.

Chrysler builds Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley said the firm is in talks with China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group Co.

Yep…that GM bailout worked wonders. If I ever buy another American Company car..it will be a Ford.

    1. It kept people’s jobs here at a critical time.

    Thirty-four states have early voting.
Wish we were one of them.

    1. Mr Howler voted today. What exactly does early voting mean?

  15. SlowpokeRodriguez

This is hot. The Detroit News thanks Obama for bailout, endorses Mitt Romney:

    1. He apparently has favorite son status. That’s not unusual.

Hey, I have to be in Dallas election week. How did he vote early? I need to figure out how.

    1. He went to the voter registration office on Lee Avenue (make the first right into the parking lot) and follow the signs.

Just take ID and say you will be out of town as your reason.

You can still vote absentee also. Go to http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/absenteevoting.html

I voted absentee for the first time ever this year.

How interesting to see so many on the left celebrate Colin Powell’s Obama endorsement. The same Colin Powell who stood in front of the UN making a case for Saddam Hussein’s WMD’s.

    1. @Emma, Powell was duped also. He is still well-respected from what I can tell. He is a person of principle.

I got it. Absentee with Excuse.

    1. Or you can walk in and do it, with excuse. the might be open on Saturdays also, this close to election.

  19. @Moon-howler
So..its ok to farm them out to China now? OK, then.

    1. What are we farming out now? goats?

  20. Interesting info coming in about the Cairo demonstration.

    http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2012/10/al_qaeda-linked_jiha.php

I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

    1. Who are these people and what credentials do they have?

I would expect most demonstrations to be started by al qada like groups. Then they get the peasants to join in by showing them incendiary western stuff. That’s common all over the world, including this country.

  21. punchak

    @Emma
Yea, because he was fed incorrect information from Bush and Cheney’s
neo-con war mongerers. They just couldn’t wait.

  22. Starryflights

I encourage all my rightie friends in Virginia to vote for the true conservative in the race, Virgil Goode. Romney is a RINO. He is not a true conservative. You have to stick to your principles, don’t you know! You will not be throwing away your vote, heh heh! So stick to your principles and vote for the only conservative in the race next month!

  23. @Starry

Its beginning to sound like “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

    Virgil Caine is my name
And I drove on the Danville train
    ‘Til so much cavalry came
And tore up the tracks again
    In the winter of sixty-five
We were hungry, just barely alive
I took the train to Richmond that fell
    It’s a time I remember
    Oh, so well

The night they drove Old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringin’
The night they drove Old Dixie down
And all the people were singin’

  24. Emma

@Starryflights We’re more likely to take advice from Lena Dunham than we are from you, Starry.
