One storm model

The entire Atlantic seaboard is in the direct path of Hurricane Sandy.  Sandy stands a good chance of being a megastorm.

Washingtontpost.com:

There is a consensus forming in weather forecast models that hurricane Sandyis unlikely to go out to sea. Instead, it more likely will merge with a strong fall cold front and transition into a powerhouse, possibly historic mid-latitude storm along the mid-Atlantic and/or Northeast coast Sunday through Wednesday.

The majority of models now take Sandy from its current position over Jamaica northward over the Bahamas before curving the storm towards either the mid-Atlantic or Northeast coast. Models disagree on where the storm will recurve and make landfall: simulations vary from the mid-Atlantic to Maine. There remains a chance, though diminishing, the storm will slide harmlessly out to sea.

Areas from the Carolinas to Canada can expect extreme wind, rain, storm surge along the coast, and often dangerous conditions.  Power lines will probably go down.  Snow is not likely although it is possible.

Are you ready for Sandy?  She can hit as early as Sunday.

    President, errrr ahhh, Gov. Romney is having a rally in Haymarket Sunday at noon. I’ve got my tickets!!! President Obama and Bill Clinton are scheduled to hold a rally somewhere in Prince William County Monday after having one in Florida. Noon Sunday is expected to have just some showers. Monday will be the height of the Perfect Storm if we get it.

    By the looks of the map Moon posted, we should be on the edge of the worst of this storm.

    1. Manassas Democrats said people should be able to get tickets this weekend for the Obama Rally. You will note that I also announced both of them on the open thread.

      Details still being worked out with the Obama Rally. I expect they are also, as you said, waiting for more details about the weather.

      Fired up? Ready to to go?

      As for that “President ” Romney, my guess is, if that were to happen, you definitely might have buyers regret. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

  2. I blame George Bush and Global Warming.

    Remember, if you prepare for zombies, hurricanes are a breeze.

    So stock up on ammo so you can shoot that hurricane and defend your home!

    🙂

    As for the rallies, I wish I was able to take time off. I wanted to take my daughter to the Obama rally today, here in Richmond. But I can’t miss school and she’s missed too much.

  3. Just out of curiosity, why?

    Why don’t you bring her up here to the Romney one? Someone on the blog would get you tickets I feel certain. I also have a R friend or 2. Well, 1, iif he is still speaking to me.

    I would hesitate to attend a campaign rally for a candidate I opposed, but would welcome an opportunity for my kids to see the President, whoever the President might happen to be.

    I noticed that Obama is campaigning with Bill Clinton rather then Biden. Smart move on his part. My bet is that Biden is gagged, tied up and locked away in a room somewhere until after the election.

    I agree that Palin was not the strongest VP pick McCain could have made, but Democrats lost the right to criticize the day Obama picked Biden.

    1. That is such a crock of crap. Biden has more experience than most people and has forgotten more than most people know about running govt and foreign policy. There is much more to him than sound bites.

      Sarah Palin isnt even in the same league. She basically killed off the swing voters–the moderates who might have considered McCain. Oh well, your loss. I most certainly will criticize her.

      The reason that Clinton is with Obama is because of his enduring popularity. Clinton appeals to moderates like no one else alive today. He is the magnet. It really has nothing to do with Biden, who is out on the campaign trail daily.

    @Moon-howler

    I said Palin was not the best pick. She lost votes for McCain. Should we post some Biden gag reels?

    Obviously Obama has buyer’s regret and agrees with me. Otherwise, why is he campaigning with Clinton instead of Biden?

    Perhaps Biden serves one role for Obama. With Biden as VP, President Obama’s personal safety is greatly enhanced against people who may have otherwise considered attempting to do him harm.

    1. Don’t be politically naive. If Obama had buyer’s regret he wouldn’t have selected Biden for his running mate again. The VP and Pres. rarely campaign together. That isn’t the most bang for your buck. Clinton is out there because of his popularity.

      This thread isn’t about Biden. It’s about Palin making an obvious racial remark about the president. Obviously you are embarrassed by it or you wouldn’t keep trying to deflect over to Biden or anyone else you can save face with.

      That’s what I don’t get about Republicans. Life for you guys is one continual deflection. yesterday someone tried to goad me over Jim Moran’s son resigning. I said good, he should have resigned. What an AH to participate in a conversation like that. No one heard me trying to deflect. He was an AH and O’Keefe remains a duplicitous scum bag. Young Moran has been in politics to KNOW not to particate in any conversaton like that. He was big assing and being THE Man….and he almost lost it. What a jerk.

    The reason Clinton is campaigning with Obama is so that he, Clinton can re-group and strengthen his political machine and because Hillory cannot wait 8 more years. The reason Obama is campaigning with Clinton is to hide in his shaddow. Biden is on the small town chicken circut again because if you don’t have a drive-in anymore and its not bowling league season, he’s the best enertainment in town.

    1. Leaping Leopards, Blue, you are so full of crap. You don’t know what you are talking about. Dismissed. Nothing of interest in that conversation. Blather on to those republicans who will listen to you.

      So go whisper in everyone’s ear your conspiracy theories about Biden. Meanwhile, think about the Democratic Convention and who was the biggest hit there.

    One, this is interesting, isn’t it? I’ve been watching the whole European model vs. American Model for a couple days, now. This thing might actually nail us! And a big ‘ol storm dumping on the northeast on election day? Hmmm. Wonder what that might do?

  8. Need to Know

    @Moon-howler

    Actually, this thread is about the storm and somehow the discussion of Palin and Biden migrated over here. I guess that’s my fault for talking about the upcoming weather and the political rallies, which was not intended as a political remark at all.

    1. Not really. @NTK. Most of your comment was germaine. The storm very well could affect the rallies and the whole elction actually.

    Another Chris Mathews scream to be heard from ??? Abondon ship, abandon ship !

    CBS went over today, NBC last night. They can no longer carry the water.

    @SlowpokeRodriguez

    Good point, what happens if only the 4×4 vehicles are able to get out?
    Stuff those boxes.

    Because how often does a 12 year old get to see the President? I may disagree with him but she’s just a kid. We went to the Ryan rally and she met Lt. Gov. Bolling who remembered me from previous “Blogger Day” visits that he holds.

    She gets to meet all sorts of people that most kids don’t. I took her to Lobby Day with the VCDL and she met State delegates.

    1. Cargo, its really not a good idea to be remembered. 😈

      I agree with you….seeing the president is a life time experience for any kid.

  11. SlowpokeRodriguez

    Wait…..I think I misplaced a week in there somewhere. With traveling to Dallas every few weeks…..I’m having a God-awful time knowing when is what. Election is the week after Sandy, right?

    The NWS is already calling it “Frankenstorm”

    How does this impact us election day? None of the models show the center of the storm coming through our area, and the worst impact of hurricanes is always the front-right quandrant. Not saying it will be insignificant and maybe power goes off for a while, but it doesn’t seem like a storm that would have us shut down all the way to election day.

    However, the center is tracking closer to New Jersey and maybe Philadelphia. It Philadelphia gets shut down through election day, and voting is mostly outside the urban areas Pennsylvania could go Romney. New Jersey, New York, all New England (except maybe New Hampshire) go Obama regardless of the weather.

  14. blue

    @Need to Know

    Not so sure about that. If NYC got really hammered, the state would not go Obama. The rest of the State’s voice and vote would actually count. It would at least be close.

    Arrgghh, I can hear the calls for delays to the election already.

  15. @Need to Know
    Unfortunately, that turn west turns the hurricane into a “nor easter.” Which tends to be bad for this area….
    Or so I’m told. I’m not from around here….Hurricanes I know, not so much on these newfangled noreasters.

    1. Cargo, I am from around here and the Nor’ Easter still baffles me from a directional point of view.
