Could it be that Corey is hopeful, under the guise of this secret committee, he will be able re-animate, from the dead, the immigration crisis, thus bringing attention to himself. He reminds me of Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein, hoping to piece together the odd parts of dead people to create the monster!
Lest we forget, Corey is dreaming of bigger and better (i.e. more powerful) elected offices, first the Lt Gov office and then he’s on his way up and out to POTUS!
Corey has already told us his plan, citizens should be pay attention. In this recent article, Corey states his true intent. Remember, Corey and his minions once hoped to get rid of our honorable Chief Deane by suggesting he was not performing his job properly by talking to residents about the new immigration policy. Does “Treason” ring any bells? If not, watch this!
That created friction between Prince William’s At-large Supervisor, Corey Stewart, who said one’s stance on illegal immigration will be a “litmus test” in deciding who the county’s next police chief will be, and blames the president for the putting the 287(g) program at risk.
“It’s obviously important to me that whoever we hire is a strong believer of immigration enforcement. We’ve had problems with illegal immigrants committing crimes in the past, we have a program in place which is now in jeopardy because of the Obama administration, but if we’re able to get that decision overturned by a Romney administration we expect whoever we hire is going to be a proponent of our efforts,” said Stewart.
Here is the underlying problem right now. Citizens know full well that Corey only does what serves Corey and his end goal– more power. Citizens don’t trust Corey, for good reason I might add. THAT is why, without citizen understanding of the process to replace Chief Deane, we are imagining the worse. Al Aborn asked a simple question, never anticipating the result would be a lock down of information.
What IS the process for picking the new Chief of Police? Obviously it has been awhile, so this may be new territory for PWC. What capacity does this citizen advisory panel serve? We know we have at least one member, having demonstrated a complete lack of respect for Chief Deane, already serves on this committee, if we are to believe her own crowing and bragging that is.
Why is it that this particular committee’s members must remain undisclosed while all other citizen committees in this county are part of the public record? If there is such concern over the publication of their names, maybe this committees’s inclusion in the process is not appropriate. I really don’t know.
The reality is that Corey used immigration as an opportunity to pound his fist in outrage, to get the masses stirred up, to create a name for himself. I remember those dark days, people were actually afraid to speak out against the rising tide of plainly spoken hate and prejudice. I, for one, have no desire to revisit those days. Has Corey revisited those neighborhoods that were so adversely affected by the housing boom and then bust? I imagine I could safely venture a resounding no and bet I was correct.
We had a housing boom that required labor, and we got it. Now that the housing has come to a slow grind, we haven’t needed the labor. But wait, don’t think, for one millisecond, that if Corey could ensure the passage of Stone Haven, a huge development with thousands of homes, he would not hesitate to work his magic to make it happen, thus ensuring happy campaign doners! Do you see the cycle repeating itself? I sure do.
Corey is crying like Chicken Little, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling” because ICE is phasing out the 287G program with Secure Communities. Here is the reality, ICE doesn’t want people committing basic traffic offenses, they want repeat immigration offenders and people who committ felony crimes.
Apparently ICE is phasing out the task force model in favor of Secure Communities, which is already activated in most jurisdictions across the country. ICE spokeswoman Danielle Bennett stated, “The Secure Communities screening process, coupled with federal officers, is more consistent, efficient and cost effective in identifying and removing criminal and other priority aliens.”
Funny, that is exactly what Chief Deane said when he expressed concerns about the “probable cause mandate”. With finite resources, the police must be able to prioritize more serious offenders for public safety, PERIOD.
Corey hopes to put on his Dr. Frankenstein lab coat and create fear in the community by unleasing the “monster”. His behavior is simply unethical and immoral. Any opportunity to create cover for himself, i.e. this committee, he will readily seize. Because where there is secrecy, there is mistrust, unless and until, the process is more transparent, citizens, like myself, knowing the damage Corey can unleash, will remain wary.
My hope is that, our CXO and other BOCS members, will take a few moments to watch 95oo Liberty and well remember, the behavior of Corey and the pain he helped unleash on our community. Pain I will add, that did not solve any of the underlying problems in those neighborhoods. Real leadership escapes Corey.
I have some suggestions for Corey, but none that he would take. They are all very boring, require alot of coalition building, and don’t result in grandstanding headlines.
It’s almost possible to feel sorry for poor waffling Corey. He’s faced with such a difficult choice. New subdivisions and developers’ bucks (needed for a run for higher office) and the labor force employed or illegal immigration hysteria (it’s becoming old hat) and a few xenophobes’ votes for that higher office.
Whatever happened to Stewart’s rule of law thing anyway?
I have no idea. I guess he saw it was a loser like he was. ooops …who said that.
Cuchinelli/Stewart 2020?
Cuchinelli for president? Bring it on! I just don’t see Jon Stewart on that ticket, though.
@Bubberella
Funny!
I don’t understand the secrecy surrounding the Chief-of-Police Selection Committee either. I agree that secrecy undermines public trust in government. I wrote an email to the BOCS asking them to divulge panel members’ names and would encourage you to do the same.
I question the reason given for sure. @Janelle
People might talk. bS.
The county needs to at least explain the process they are using. Actually, there should be a set process for hiring upper management. When there is one citizen, known to be a malcontent and a gossip, shrieking from the rooftops that she is choosing the next chief, it causes unrest amongst the natives–namely us. Elena and I remember some pretty rough language going back to the illegal immigration resolution days and some pretty threatening language against the Chief. Chief Deane continues to be a big favorite around Moonhowlings.
County–at least explain the process!
Perhaps these are the illusive committee members. The leopard lady has an agenda and shouldn’t be included on the committee.

What a slap in the face to Chief Deane.
If Corey and his henchwoman want to fight this fight all over again, then I say Bring it on! Let’s see how the taxpayers like the idea of paying for all the lawsuits. I have heard both Corey and Ms. Widawski’s opinions on illegal immigration. It’s a lawsuit looking for a place to happen.
Unfortunately, many people in PWC still think things are how they wish they could be. Some think that they can just go through town rounding up illegal immigrants. These are the same people who think that all 5000 of those on an ICE detainer were deported. NOT! That isn’t how it works. If Corey tries to bring in some Sheriff Joe, there are plenty of people in this county who will rise up in protest. I was embarrassed enough by the previous redneck behavior in this county. I had some employment limitations back during round 1. I have no such restraits this time.
Welcome Janelle 🙂
That Donna Widawski has any input whatsoever should offend most rational people in PWC. How is it, that this person, was able to be appointed to such a well established panel of public officials? How is it that this woman, who helped lead the charge against Chief Deane and his right to reach out to the community, has been appointed to such a critical task force? Where is the voice of someone like Carlos Castro on such a committee? I am just appalled, I really am.
I heard that Greg L. was all pissed off that he wasn’t appointed to the committee also.
He is well represented Ms. W though. One for all and all for one.
Bring on the clowns and the Red Circles.
In case you have forgotten…9500 Liberty is a great reminder.

See the film in its entirety.
This resolution is even more offensive to me today than it was then, and that is saying something.
I would love to see the Leopard Lady working along side Mr. Ebert. Interesting to say the least. I thought she may have thrown her spots into the ring. 🙄
Where the heck is Mom?!!!
She is right up there with the giants…in her own mind. duster!!! Duster!!! I’m in a fluster.
@Lafayette
The meter maids gotta weigh in at some points, don’t they?
who would ever guess that you could read uniforms.
@Lafayette
Not to worry, still around causing trouble.
@Mom
Excellent! That’s what I like to hear.
What, you doubted me? BTW, after I saw some pictures I was wondering how the white water rafting on Flat Branch was Monday.
Did the water go over the road at Flat Branch? I sure didnt go out to check it out.
Lake Ben Lomond seems to be the white water rafting area of choice for locals. I didn’t see anyone in those rapids Tuesday morning. Flat Branch was about 7ft from the bottom of the bridge. Man, I still LOVE that bridge. If you aren’t from this area you have no idea what a gift that is to our neighborhoods.
No kidding, Lafayette. It is really a gift. I had to go across that sucker every day of my life for the past million years.
