What does STOP SPENDING really mean for NOVA?

STOP SPENDING is a bumper sticker.  Let’s take a look at what it means on a local  level for those of us living here in Prince William County in Northern Virginia.

I have been asking around about 287(g) and Secure Communities.  I uncovered a little more than I intended.  See for yourself–

Very few law enforcement agencies participate in 287g – maybe 70.  This can be largely attributed to staffing needs.  Most agencies are losing staff or remaining flat and can’t devote cops for that when they’re not getting additional officers.   This has been the case in PWC for several years.  Promises were made, promises where not always kept by the BOCS.

What hits us even harder is the defunding of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force.  The Northern Virginia Gang Task Force was de-funded two years ago – Frank Wolf had obtained the funding via earmark.  Then he pledged not to vote for earmarks.   I wonder who encouraged that pledge?  Could it be the Grover Norquist crowd?

Richard Mourdock thinks pregnancy from rape was intended by God

All well and good, bizarro boy, but do not inflict your beliefs on the rest of us.

What a shame that strange people like this are always the ones who feel that they must spread the word if elected to office.

I have decided beliefs like this should disqualify a person from office.

How many more of these clowns are Republicans going to inflict on the rest of us?

Normal thinking Republicans!! Where are you?  Make your party stop doing this!!!

Bizarro Dude Mourdock is running for the senate from Indiana.  I would think his opponent, Rep. Joe Donnelly,  would be loving life with remarks like these but we are talking about Indiana.  It isn’t known for its enlightenment.

Bulls#%t Mountain: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

To set the stage, the Foxies pick up on President Obama using Stewart’s expression, “optimal.” Welcome to the the hashtag, Not-Optimal which has become, Not-optimal-gate.

It seems that Senator McCain committed to something without proper vetting since he could not have possibly seen the president using Stewart’s term.  It aired an hour later than he made his proclamation.

Bulls#%t Mountain: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Oh those Foxies are at it again.  Jon exposes the BS and lies.  Welcome to Bulls#%t Mountain.

Jon Stewart tells us that is the one thing about living on Bulls#%t Mountain, when it rains, you get the mudslide.

Tim Kaine’s town hall meeting

Tim Kaine is currently holding a telephone town hall meeting.  It’s around noon on Monday.  What an interesting strategy. He is reaching a lot of people on lunch hour and a lot of women.

Tim Kaine is the best choice for Senate. He is very concerned over sequestration coming to Virginia.  He is addressing transportation issues, health care issues, job issues, and women issues.  Very informative.   Kaine is knowledgeable and doesn’t always think straight political ticket.  I like that independence (other than the rest areas.)

A current caller wants a Constitution Amendment to do away with Citizens United.  Kaine thought Citizens united was  a horrible decision and agreed with the caller.  He doesn’t think it would necessarily take a Constitutional Amendment.  He is concerned the secret money being dumped into campaigns more so than corporations.  He wants a shareholder vote for corporate giving.  That seems fair.  Kaine thinks  this can be done via congress rather than amendment.

He tells his audience that his biggest public concern is Education.  That is how he got his start, improving education in the Richmond area.  He would want to be on the Education committee in the Senate.

He hasn’t once brought up Macaca.  I will, however.

Ready for that third debate?

The third and final presidential debate is tonight. Foreign policy is the focus and each candidate will have 2 minutes to answer.

President Obama should have the strength here but who knows.  I am not a betting woman.

How many different election cycles, in recent memory, have been close in popular vote?  The polls have both candidates neck and neck…something like each having 48% of the likely vote.

What would happen if there were an electoral college tie?

Did the Iranians drop an October surprise and were they attempting to manipulate the election?

Meanwhile, we will never agree on winners and losers.  Its obvious that the one who wins is the one we personally like the most.

Yawn!  I am so tired of this election.  We get this one over and the state cranks up.  Moan!  Groan!!  More fools.

HBO: The Girl exposes Hitchcock’s cruelty to Tippi Hedron

Remember Hitchcock’s The Birds?  Scary film, even for an old one.  Tonight Tippi Hedron gets to tell her story.  She was the dainty blonde girl who was tortured and nearly pecked to death by demonic birds in a coastal town,  At 82, Hedron tells us that despite the fact he was evil,  Hitchcock ruined her career but not her life:

TVNEWS.com

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — After a private screening of HBO’s “The Girl” held for Tippi Hedren, her friends and family, including daughter Melanie Griffith, the reaction was silence.

Make that stunned silence, as the room took in the film’s depiction of a scorned, vindictive Alfred Hitchcock physically and emotionally abusing Hedren during production of “The Birds.”

“I’ve never been in a screening room where nobody moved, nobody said anything,” Hedren recounted. “Until my daughter jumped up and said, ‘Well, now I have to go back into therapy.'”

Hedren, 82, as polished and lovely as she was taking her turn as a rarified “Hitchcock blonde” in “The Birds” (1963) and “Marnie” (1964), tells the story with a casual smile.

Tonight HBO premiers The Girl which is the story of Hedron’s life with Hitchcock.  it runs from 8:10-9:45 and then is repeated on the various stations throughout the evening.

So many of those with special talents and gifts like Alfred Hitchcock seemed so twisted.

The Orionids are coming!

The Orionid showers tonight or early this morning before the sun comes up will put on a good show, if the clouds don’t get us again.

The Orionids aren’t the heaviest meteor show but they have a pretty sky location and are easy to find.  Everyone knows where Orion is.

This meteor shower is a result of Halley’s comet and is known for producing fireballs.  One exploded over San Francisco Bay last night.

Obama at GMU: The symptoms of Romnesia

Good times were had at the Obama Rally at George Mason University.  I emailed my brother to see if my nephew, a student there (remember the twin with Joe Biden at Tech?), had attended. My brother said no, too early for the DMan but he had gone.  Good for my  brother!

He had a great spot.  I hope all the young voters don’t take after my nephew who considered it too early to deal with.

So what are the symptoms of Romnesia?

Federal Court rules DOMA unconstitutional

Richmond Times Dispatch:

NEW YORK (AP) — Saying the gay population has “suffered a history of discrimination,” a divided federal appeals court in Manhattan ruled Thursday that a federal law defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman was unconstitutional, adding fuel to an issue expected to reach the U.S. Supreme Court soon.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals seemed interested in adding its voice to several other rulings already at the high court’s doorstep by issuing its 2-to-1 decision only three weeks after hearing arguments on a lower court judge’s findings that the 1996 law was unconstitutional.

Voter suppression alive and well in Virginia-Updates!

Colin Small

Thursday–Colin Small of Pennsykvania was arrested for his involvement with trashed voter registration forms.  Small is part of RPV.

From 29nbc.com:

Just hours before the Monday deadline for voter registration, a Harrisonburg store manager made a discovery that will keep eight citizens from being silenced. Their completed registration forms were discarded like trash. Investigators don’t yet know if it’s criminal activity or just bad business.

A typical Monday afternoon at Tuesday Morning, a store in Harrisonburg, took a strange turn, when the manager Rob Johnson spotted someone putting a bag of trash in his recycling bin. Johnson went to retrieve the misplaced refuse.

“That’s when I realized, this bag is really light and looked inside,” Johnson said. “There was the manila folder with the eight voter registration applications, and I was like, we’ve got something here.”
