My friends Roger and June went to Australia for this event, a full solar eclipse. You could not see it from Europe or the United States. Has everyone recovered from the election and the storms? What is our next round of excitement?
Cuccinelli blocks falsely convicted man’s release
From the Associated Press :
Virginia’s attorney general says a Hampton judge lacked jurisdiction to order the release of an imprisoned man whose accuser recanted her sexual assault allegation.
Brian Gottstein, a spokesman for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, says Jonathan Montgomery’s case is a tragedy. But he says in an email today that Circuit Judge Randolph West’s order exonerating Montgomery and vacating the final two years of his sentence is void under state law. He says Montgomery probably needs to petition the Virginia Court of Appeals for a writ of actual innocence, which Cuccinelli will support.
Montgomery’s father, David Montgomery, says his son should be released immediately. He says the attorney general’s office is holding an innocent man captive.
Political assault on women–like that one better?
Most Republicans I know have defiantly told me that there is no war on women. Literally, I agree. Figuratively I strongly disagree.
First off, I usually give Republicans credit, with great fanfare, for having the best control of the sound-bites and the bumper sticker slogans. They are just better at it that Democrats and like-minded people. Not in this case– the women snatched the sound bite and owned it. War on Women is ours and we will use it as we please. We own it.
There isn’t a person in the world who can realistically deny that women had a great deal to do with the outcome of the election. I don’t just mean the presidential election–that was probably the least significant. The war on women showed up in senatorial and congressional races all over this country and the women most definitely threw the some of the bastards out.
