Is everyone ready for the big day of gluttony? Who is going away? Who is cooking? Who is eating out?
We will be eating out as usual. About 6 years ago I decided I was never cooking again. I got tired of being too exhausted to eat. The help wasn’t always so hot. Lots of showing up to eat and running off to do other things.
I wish I were cooking. It sure wouldn’t be a turkey. Yuck! I’ll be fixing my Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow night of rib roast. I’ll eat sides at the in-laws Yankee style Thanksgiving. My goodness, they’d never had string beans with country ham until I brought them to dinner years ago. They eat ’em now. I have a lot to be thankful, but it’s not a turkey dinner. Aren’t ya glad you asked?
Bitching because there are no wetlands? Hell they have voted to build houses on all the wetlands. Ask Fred about how the county treats wetlands!!!!!
Laf, you are the only person I know who doesn’t like turkey.
I gained a couple of great recipes from my Yankee inlaws–stuff that everyone insists on now.
I’ve yet to tast a yankee dish I want the recipe for from them. This Virginia girl will continue to cook her family recipes with no measurements. 🙂
The Queen doesn’t care for turkey either.
They are talking about wetLABS, not wetlands.
American Disposal services will not operate on Thanksgiving if you have trash pick up on Thursday.
Dear God, I am going deaf.
What are wetlabs? I would think they would be local wetlands. Wrong….
Mr. Laf is our trash service to the Balls Ford Rd Facility weekly.
Multitasking is not my friend. I was listening half heartedly and not looking.
Well, they have paved over all the wetlands….even if it has nothing to do with this presentation.
They handle drugs, chemicals, and biological items.
It sounds like they do something with life sciences also. I haven’t figured out what….but I am listening a little better now.
I notice that this guy wasn’t told to hurry it along like the woman was.
Both were doing a lot of bird walking if you ask me.
Could it be that the chairman addresses men with more respect than he does women?
Where is MoM today?
I was thinking the same thing. hmmm
I’m listening and thought for sure they said “wetlands” also. I had read the agenda and knew what they meant, but the presentation sounded odd. We can listen to the recording to see if someone mispoke or if we misheard.
Corey said he expects the demand for traditional offices to diminish as people work from home and other places away from offices in the future. He said that the past development pattern of office following residential may not work anymore. I agree with his assessment, but hope he does not mean he wants to make all development residential. The life sciences and “wetlabs” development would bring in some good jobs and be tax-revenue positive. I really hope that what’s he means and that they actually try to bring in some of that high-wage, professional development.
@Need to Know
It would be nice to see some high-wage jobs every once in a while. Instead of the minimum wage jobs like we so often see brought to the county. I’ve worked at home for a decade now. I would also, add that the courthouse doesn’t even have the need for work space for the public that they once did, because land records are online now statewide. There’s a fee involved for the online service, and lessens the need for equipement for the public to use. So if the 7th most affluent county doesn’t have the need for space that they once did, why would the private sector.
Mom is here, just listening to Corey poke Richmond in the eye again, and no Marty, the public does not generally go to the county website for hearing notices now or ten years ago, they go where they are supposed to go, the local newspaper under legal adds. He’s such a little suck-up sycophant for Corey.
Maybe Richmond has to tell you what’s right for the community because you’ve done such an awful effing job of it you two-bit turd.
Oooh, closed session sounds like a fun one today.
Glad to see you chime in with your two cents worth, Mom. I’ve never heard of a single soul going to the county website for legal notices. They go to the newspaper, HELLO!!!
Woohoo, Moon..they mentioned your favorite the Mosquito people. 👿
Those are not the ONLY two options you vacuous turd. Marking you turf, something Corey should be good at after Happy Hour.
Arghh the lowest tax bill argument again, somebody please shoot me.
How about a firewall or shield to protect us from the BOCS.
I anticipate my tax bill to go up next year, because of an increased property value. I don’t want to hear our taxes low, etc.. Blah, blah, blah…
Corey, you fail to realize that the middle school is where the resources officers are needed the most. Also, remember we have a g@ng problem, and the middle school is where they are most likely to be recruited. This is yet another example of the county being penny-wise and pound foolish.
Open mind? He did NOT just say that!
Let me get this straight, Richmond cuts healthcare funding so we axe off a large chunk of the county’s health program, Richmond cuts off our transportation dollars so we allocate even more county funds to build our own roads. Anybody see a little hypocrisy here?
Yes, we all know you are a carpetbagger, but, hey thanks for the reminder.
John J is schoolin’ him on the resource officers. LOVE IT!!
Earth to Boss Jenkins, that costs a phenomenal amount of money, you didn’t slip when you said tax increase, you just said what you really mean, you want an enormous tax increase. That being said, thank you for pointing out to Corey that his savings aren’t really savings.
Looks like Caddigan is strike two for Corey.
Of course you don’t have any details Supervisor Wishy-Washy. Time to grow a set Marty, take a stand on something and don’t wait until the negotiations for your vote begin.
Jenkins is living in an alternate universe.
Could someone explain for me what Marty was saying?
Marty was saying nothing, something he’s very good at, nobody has bid for his vote yet so he won’t take a position.
Ah, WRONG, Wally. People do still look at the board in the courthouse. tisk, tisk, tisk
Well its clear where Frank stands and I don’t have to wait for Pete to speak to know where he stands, so Corey will have to win over both Nohe and May to succeed, Nohe is probably a given but May might be a tough sell.
Please show me Corey’s face, Candland is putting him to shame. Corey went for he low-hanging fruit while Candland’s budget group actually did some heavy lifting.
Someone tell me when it is back on. I mercifully fell sleep.
Sorry I missed the resource officers though. What dim wit came up with getting rid of them?
@Mom
Transportation should not be locally funded at the expense of schools, public safety and the community. PWC is just reducing Richmonds burden. For all the ranting about the state by the Chairman you’d think he’d figure that out. Can you imagine what could be done for police and fire service with that money? Would have to play shell games with school officers.
I am now watching the BOCS meeting. The racetrack issue is back on the front burner. I think they are planning on building a housing development there instead. I wasn’t listening carefully at the beginning. However, I am now listening to the newer homeowners.
My first thoughts were “glad I don’t live near that bad boy.’ Now, after listening to all the whining, I am thinking what whiners they all are.
news flash, the race track was there before they were. They are making disparaging remarks about all the older homes in the area like they are newly arrived gentry, looking down on the peasants. Yea, older housing exists.
Old Dominion has been loud since BEFORE I arrived in Manassas and that was more years ago than I am going to admit on this blog. It was loud then. I expect it is loud now.
Don’t people look around their neighborhood to see where they are buying? Do they think race cars are sound proof?
After listening to all of them liver lip and boo hoo over, I have no sympathy,
Stephanie Wiliams is a hero for the day. She asked the developer if they were going to build a new school to accommodate the 300+ units being proposed for this new deveopment.
Word to the wise….drive around the neighborhood before you buy the house. If you are commuting, check out the commute before you sign the paper.
Corey just said it racetrack was built in 1948.
Well, its been there.
@Need to Know
I listened after hours and he did say wetLAB. Good google Laf.
That really needed further explanation on his part. If that dude is a communications person, he fell a little short of communicating effectively. In fairness, he is part of economic development. Sorry. I guess he doesn’t need to make sure I know what he is talking about.
Just out of curiosity, what were we supposed to get out of that presentation?
Pete Candland is to be commended for protecting what money the schools have.
He also advocates protecting fire, police, and all public safety funding.
Good job there, Pete. However, I heard him making noises about that 56.75% agreement of funds.
I will turn on any one of them like a snake if they mess with that figure or worse, if the BOCS starts thinking they can ‘tinker’ with school board money. They don’t have the know-how and doing so would be tantamount to giving the fox the keys to the henhouse.
School board decisions are political enough as it is. We all know who the new Republican is. That was about as subtle as a train wreck. We all know what it was over.
Please let’s not let the BOCS start politicizing it. Ms. Cadidgan is the only one I would trust anyway. Corey would want to raid one of the high schools for illegal immigrants.
Told ya!!!!
Mark Warner has a job.
WaPo
Uhh, just listened to the tape. Where is the certification and report out of closed session? Given the breadth and interesting topics that were to be discussed in closed session (particularly the performance of at least two “County Officials”, I would expect some report out of the session.
§ 2.2-3712. Closed meetings procedures; certification of proceedings.
D. At the conclusion of any closed meeting, the public body holding such meeting shall
immediately reconvene in an open meeting and shall take a roll call or other recorded vote to be included in the minutes of that body, certifying that to the best of each member’s knowledge (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements under this chapter and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the closed meeting was convened were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the public body. Any member of the public body who believes that there was a departure from the requirements of clauses (i) and (ii), shall so state prior to the vote, indicating the substance of the departure that, in his judgment, has taken place. The statement shall be recorded in the minutes of the public body
What are you looking for here?
If it was anything dealing with material blogged, rest assured it will appear on someone’s before the sun sets in the west…and I don’t mean mine.
There were two county official items. The first sounded like a specific official and an action. The second sounded like modifications to personnel policy.
The close out is done by resolution during the closed session. In that they only certify that no other topics were discussed.
The close out is done by resolution during the closed session. In that they only certify that no other topics were discussed.”
It has to be done in open session by statute and usually there is a link to the certification on the video. Yesterdays meeting goes straight from going into closed session to the BOE presentation. There are rather serious consequences if they did not certify the closed session.
@Moon-howler
Looking for any number of things as a result of the laundry list of items for closed session, actions regarding possible litigation, real property acquisition, disciplinary action against senior staff, rifts between staff and the chair, etc., etc., etc.
I would want special delivery accommodations if anything is pulled in with the wide net being cast.
Would I get a cookie and some “special” eggnog?
define “cookie.”
@MoM
Then I might say, but of course.
The resolution was attached that closes it out.
@Moon-howler
Conspiracy theories abound…the motivation is questionable. Last I heard from the Gainesville gang the FBI, CIA, local law enforcement, VSP were all being called in to investigate PWC government employees and their nefarious doings…the possibilities are endless. The pouncing of big brave anonymous people is exciting. Wonder what they’re hiding from their past? Curious minds want to know……
