Let’s hope the President has learned a lesson: More from BS Mountain

Finally, we get to see where all the negative oppositional research came from! Yup! Right there in the Republican primaries. All the odd ones were out to destroy Mitt Romney. The Faux fools fail to take responsibility for the inside job done on Mitt Romney.

It is Elena and my sincere hope that Republicans will not trash and destroy Mitt Romney who we feel is really a decent man. He had to jump through so many hoops to defeat the bizarre components in the Republican Party that he simply could not recover and come out a likeable human being to the general population. That’s a real shame.

Don’t blame Obama. Don’t blame the media. Blame the wingnuts within the Republican Party.

River Oaks Precinct: Real voter suppression

These people make me Prince William Proud.  6 voting machines for how many thousand people?   Just under 5,000 registered voters.   These folks were stuck here until 11 pm.  How many had to leave without casting their vote?

The people in these lines are the faces of REAL America, REAL Virginia and REAL Prince William County.

Shame on the county for not providing adequate voting equipment.

2,802 Votes were cast at River Oaks Precint.   2,373 of these votes were cast for President Obama.

What can be done to ensure that voters never again have to be stuck in lines this long to vote?  This incident is a county-wide disgrace.   Where does the buck stop?  Who do we voice our outrage to?

Virginia: the swing state–PWC: the bellwether county for America

From Campaignsandelections.com:

7  Counties to watch on Election Night:

Prince William County, VA Virginia will be one of the first states to report results on Tuesday night, and Prince William County is the most important county there. Romney needs to win the county to win Virginia. George W. Bush and Bob McDonnell were able to win the county rather solidly. There has been an influx of immigrants in the past decade, and as a consequence it has a somewhat more Democratic lean than before. This will also be a good check to see if the Romney and Obama campaigns’ assumptions about the demographics of the electorate are correct.

I snickered when I first heard that the eyes of the nation would be on Prince William County.  Whaaaat??  My Prince Billy Bob County?

I think the days of Prince Billy Bob are long gone.  Long over.  A new prince has arrived and he ain’t named Billy Bob.

4 More Years!!!

This morning I woke up to an email from one of my best friends…certainly my friend of longest endurance. It said the following:

It’s not nice to f*ck with women! (or Latinos, blacks, young, etc.)

That pretty much says it all.  As Ivan has said, there is a lot to discuss.  Let’s have at it.

PWC: The war on women

During the past year Elena and I have written a great deal about the war on women.  This is a national and state effort, for the most part, that has stripped women of their reproductive rights and their access to full employment.  Women have been subjected to legislative railroading as well as other forms of bullying. They have been dismissed and ridiculed.

However, one doesn’t really have to even leave Prince William County to get a full dose of watching the war on women.  It is happening right here in the blogosphere and it is happening to our County Executive, Melissa Peacor.  First off, it isn’t happening on this blog and it won’t.  I would take that crap down faster than greased lightning.  I don’t allow personal attacks on county employees.  Why?  I used to be one and you can’t fight back.  Empathy has always stood me in good stead.

The latest attack has been issued by the Sheriff of Nottingham over Ms. Peacor remodeling the office space she now uses since she is the head honcho or honcho-ette.  The Sheriff has spent so much time attacking Ms. Peacor that he has lost all credibility with me.  I know many of his assertions to be untrue.  I don’t like or approve of lying about anyone, especially for political gain.

I don’t believe in the politics of personal character assassination.

Open Thread…………………..Election Day……………November 6

Today is Election Day.  After today all the robo calls will stop. The polls are open in Virginia from 6 am until 7 pm.

Lines are expected to be long. Supposedly the best time to go to the polls is between 10 and 4.

We have heard for the past 6 months that Prince William County is the county to watch.  We shall see if it was the predictor it was supposed to be.  Virginia certainly has been a battleground state. What is the price tag for that distinction?

2/3rds of workers report that they keep their politics to themselves in the work place.  They also say they feel a need for secrecy.   That sounds sort of nice, actually.

The City of Manassas has extra questions on it.  They will vote on moving their local election from May to November.

Let us know what you find at your polling place.  Are the lines long?  What was the mood of the voters?

Meanwhile, I don’t think this will be an election that gets called early.

Binders of Women? Here ya go!

Some things just need no explanation.  Ask me again why I voted for President Obama

I am still amazed that a party that calls for smaller government and less government intrusion feels they have the right to interfere with reproductive issues.  Don’t even tell me abortion, the interference starts long before that…it starts with birth control.

The real binders of women are those people who  still think it is appropriate to legislate restrictions that apply mainly to women.

Only when women have full control of their own reproduction will they have full economic equality.  Until then, there will be an invisible glass ceiling.

Leslie Gore: You Don’t Own Me

“You Don’t Own Me” PSA from You Don’t Own Me on Vimeo.

Women constitute more than half of the population. In 2008, 60% of voters were women. It is estimated that 10 million more women than men will vote in this election. Despite this, women make up only 16% of Congress. Women earn only 70 cents to each dollar men make. Women of color and undocumented women make less than white citizens. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party are determined to overturn Roe V. Wade. Romney has not supported equal pay for women (The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act). Romney has vowed to defund Planned Parenthood. Romney has vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Romney doesn’t want health care to cover birth control. Romney says same sex marriage should be banned with a Constitutional Amendment.

To all those who want to ridcule and mock, screw you.  It really is a war over economic power.  Unless women have total control over their own reproduction, they will never have economic equality.

To the men who want to belittle and who are doing a last grasp at their own place in the world, you were a majority for ever so long.  Bend over, tell it good bye.  It’s now time to share the power and the glory.

When you are a vintage woman you can say what you want, when you want, and for as long as you want.

Steve Thomas: May Is For Manassas!

Today our guest post is from Steve Thomas.  Steve is chairman of the Manassas City GOP.  I invited him to post here about his feelings about the referendum on the City ballot about changing the local elections in the City to November.  A big thanks to Steve for sharing his thoughts on this important issue.  We have many City folks who come to this blog and I feel they are often under-represented.

May Is For Manassas!

Thank you for the opportunity to guest-contribute to Moon Howlings. On Tuesday, Manassas City voters will cast their ballots to decide a question that could have some very profound impacts on the quality of government we receive in the future.  While voting to decide this question, they will also vote for President, Senator, and Congressman.  Lost in the rhetorical roar of national campaigns, there has been little public discussion on a proposition to move Manassas elections for Mayor, City Council, and School Board from May to November.   If local elections were to be moved, they would fall on the same day as the Presidential, Senatorial, and Congressional elections are held.

Obama Country

From today, Sunday, November 4, 2012, until the results from the presidential election are in, the Moonhowlers  blog is Obama Country.

If you came here to make sh!tty comments, don’t.  It’s over.  Regular contributors  who very much belong here feel like they are in a hostile environment.  I can understand that.

Obama supporters have endured negative and hostile remarks for over 4 years.  For the next 4 days, I have declared this blog to be a sanctuary for Obama supporters.

To my blue friends….you asked…you received.

Feel free to talk about the fact that I am a repressive facist pig.  Now that’s newsworthy.  Meanwhile, enjoy the blue time.

Romney supporters are welcome.  We aren’t just going to have a feeding frenzy here against Obama.  Enough is enough and people felt like they were being bullied.  Most people can converse without bullying.  There are lots of other things to talk about.

Check out Steve Thomas’s well thought out reason for keeping voting for local officials in May.

Check out storm news.  There is just a lot to talk about.

In this bizarro world…

In this bizarro world…

It is acceptable to shout out  at the President of the United States, “You LIE!”

In this bizarro world….

Its ok to point your finger in the face of the President of the United States and givre him the business.

In this bizarro world…

You can address the President of the United States as if he were your underling.

In this bizarro world…

Its OK for the opposition to look down his nose at the President of the United States and accuse him of lying.

In this bizarro world…

Its OK for a Supreme Court Justice to mouth the words “not true” at the President of the United States during the State of the Union Address.

In this bizarro world…

Its OK to accuse the President of the United States of being a socialist and like Hitler.

How shameful.  These are not MY values and I hope they are not yours.

How things should be:

FOR ALL THE HATEFUL AMERICANS THAT HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS MAN IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES…OR HAVE NEVER BEEN TAUGHT WHAT THAT MEANS….

Bill Golden: And yet … still I am voting Obama.

And yet … still I am voting Obama.

I wrote a piece the other day about the need for paying attention to the national debt, deficits, and paring expenses while balancing the budget.

Someone challenged me: how can I be concerned about these things ‘and yet’ vote Obama?

It is simple really.

I don’t see Obama as a great master of change. And no, I don’t believe that he has any grand plan for 2012-2016. He has disappointed me at times over the last four years — but I started out with lowered expectations since I’m a traditional Republican voter (70-80% of the time, maybe higher at local level).

So what do I see in Obama? Obama has lived up to his reputation of being ‘no drama Obama’ … which is good considering that the GOP has been after his ass since almost Day One with no intent of cooperating and working together for meaningful change and reform in any way on almost any issue. Obama has been a voice of stability working to bring most things to the center for resolution.

Fired up! Ready to go! Obama comes back to PWC

11/3/12

Inside Nova:

President Barack Obama will make a last-minute campaign stop in Prince William County on Saturday, along with the musician Dave Matthews and former president Bill Clinton, several news outlets reported Wednesday evening.

Fired up!  Ready to Go!  He’s coming back.  Even Hurricane Sandy couldn’t keep President Obama out of Prince William County, even though he had to cancel last Monday night.  He will bring Bill Clinton and the Dave Matthews Band with him.

The rally is in the evening and will be at Jiffy Lube Pavilion.

President Obama’s latest accomplishment has been to get FEMA right where help was needed.  He was fired up before hand, and ready to go as soon as the storm passed.  That is the secret of FEMA’s success….to be fired up and ready to go before the event, rather than trying to play catch up.  78% of those polled were very pleased with how the President handled the aftermath of the storm.  I wonder who those other trolls are?  That 22%?

Tickets are  at Obama Headquarters over in the City of Manassas.  You will have to supply information before getting the tickets.

Don’t Miss Out, Prince William Conservation Alliance Holds Annual Meeting Nov. 4th

As much as we all get wrapped up in National Politics, we can’t ignore critical land use decisions that effect our daily lives.  Prince William Conservation is the only PWC watershed non profit, citizen fueled organization, that works hard to ensure that our environmental concerns are addressed.  Land use decision are not just about building houses, its about where you build them also.

How do we see the future of PWC?  What will it look like?  Will we look like Fairfax or Loudon?   Geez, I hope not!  This county’s leadership still has the opportunity to really shape our community for generations to come.    We need to ensure that citizens have a “voice” at the table.  PWCA has proven its leadership in that arena.

The conservation of our environment isn’t just about pretty trees, its about fiscal responsibility, its about our general quality of life!

If you really want to make a difference, I invite you to attend the open annual meeting.  There will be great food and great conversation!

We hope you can join us!

Open Thread……………………………………………Friday, November 2

Its hard to imagine this much devastation from one storm.  I postulate that urban people have a harder time in the wake of disaster than more rural folks do.  Regardless, these people have lost everything.  It just brings tears to my eyes how there was no dodging this bullet and there but for the grade of God go we….A little further south….and who knows.

Not only are houses gone, it is cold out there.  Even those with generators are running out of gasoline.  Gasoline is hard to come by because there is no electricity in many places.  Those stations with gasoline have cars lined up for literally miles.

What can we do to help?
