Lapierre has marginalized the NRA right down to an extremist group. He has blamed Hollywood, the game industry, culture, but never guns. Guns simply have role in the deaths of 28 people. UFB.
I am not willing to point the finger and blame guns solely, but they certainly play a role in the culture of fear that runs through our society now. Until Lapierre is willing to sit down and talk about solutions that restrict some forms of weapons and some forms of ammo, his organization is just a joke. Perhaps he doesn’t speak for as many people as he thinks he does.
The NRA will have to get different representation if they want to have any spot at the solutions table. They have lost all cred at this point with the majority of americans, if recent polls are any indication.

Moon, I think part of your statement was cut off.
I’ll say…let me fix. thanks.
For once, I even know how that happened. Blame Mr. Howler who interrupted me.
1) Gregory broke the law. That magazine is illegal for him to possess in any way in DC.
2) Asking LaPierre if he supports more restrictive laws in a blanket statement is a fool’s game. One does not blindly support a law without seeing the details.
3) Where do the restrictions stop once the precedent is set?
4) There are 3 million AR type rifles in private hands. There are millions more magazines. How do you get those?
5) The description “lunatic” and “monster” obviously applies to those that shoot up crowds.
6) Some forms of ammo?
7) The NRA’s position is popular. They are gaining 8000 new memberships per day. AR rifles are sold out across the nation. Standard magazines are nearly sold out or are going for triple or quadruple the cost.
8) weapon restrictions….. Connecticut has an “assault weapon” ban.
9) Gregory mentions other shooters and large capacity magazines….Loughner was stopped because he used a large magazine and a victim was able to grab it. Aurora’s shooter did most of his shooting with a shotgun…his rifle jammed. Columbine was, as stated, in the middle of the ban. So we restrict ammo to 10 rounds. That means that a shooter takes, maybe, 5 seconds longer to shoot 30 rounds.
The danger is the person, not the inanimate object.
As for the culture of fear….who is stoking that fear? The media and the politicians. The gun banning politicians are exploiting this for their agenda.
You going to give a three year old a pack of matches or a cigarette lighter?
How about a chain saw? Tools are dangerous the minute the wrong person picks up that tool.
I cant tell you how lame I think that reasoning is. Its just lame.
@Moon-howler
There are already restrictions on WHO can get guns. So, by your logic, the rules are already in place.
I dont recall saying I thought we ought to go with more who…although now you mention it, and from some of the clowns I have seen carrying arms, I think there should probably be a batter of tests to certify sanity.
Wayne is not the only one stating this.

I am sure there are his minions saying exactly the same thing. I would expect that. He sounds like a fool though. Its everyone fault in every other industry but the gun industry. What planet is he from?
Those kids didn’t get hit with video games. ALL of those things need some regulation. Movies, video games, guns, ammo, treating the mentally ill.

NRA is calling for the deportation of Piers Morgan after his hot interview with Larry Parr on
Dec. 19. A petition for this purpose has evidently gotten 31,000 signatures. LaPierre calls him
“dangerous and dim witted”.
@Moon-howler
Chris Cuomo is a very far cry from a NRA minion ahahahahahaha…
Btw…you do know that Clinton proposed the exact same thing that the NRA does, right?
What did he propose? I have no problem with police in schools. There is more to it than that. It was his freaking attitude that everything else was at fault but the NRA and guns.
get ready folks, here comes another unfunded mandate courtesy of the Conservatives – who is going to pay for all of these highly trained Police Officers who will babysit the schools??

Another senseless shooting, but I am sure the NRA leadership is unmoved for real change. I am disgusted.
Are volunteer fire fighters suppose to be armed now?

I’m sorry, this guy LaPierre is a jerk and yet, look at the power he weilds over our civil society.
@Cargosquid
“lunatic” and “monster” were being used to describe the mentally ill. He needs to be very careful how he goes down this slippery slope. He just used for subjective language that was inflammatory. He didnt differentiate between different types of mental illness.
What we don’t want to happen is someone being prevented from purchasing a gun because they went to counselling. That’s the danger in what he said.
@Elena
Agreed. He’s their man. He is a shabby excuse.
I would like to know Moon, how many gun related deaths have occured in this country since the Sandy Hook massacre?
Those poor firefighters gunned down trying to put out a fire. Enough is enough 🙁
A lot. Couple hundred?
@Moon-howler
Actually, then you are in line with NRA thinking. Since they were talking about killers, those are the people to which he was referring, in the context of the conversation.
Then are in line with my thinking to a point. The problem we have with him here at my house is that his attitude sucks. It is all on everyone else. I have a problem with that. He wants everyone to change but the NRA. Everyone is going to have to change to make things safer.
My son wants the Lanzo mother to be jailed (posthumously I guess) for not locking her guns.
How would you feel about legislation that required you to keep your firearms locked up or you would forfeit them or go to jail or some other strict penalty?

Two US volunteer firefighters have been shot dead and two injured while responding to an emergency call in the town of Webster in New York state.
Police said the four were fired upon in an “apparent trap” as they arrived on Monday morning.
The blaze broke out just before 06:00 local time (11:00 GMT) and officers had to evacuate nearby residents in an armoured car.
A gunman has been found dead at the scene, local police say.
The man was 62-year-old William Spengler, Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering told media.
Spengler appeared to have shot himself in the head, Mr Pickering said.
He had previously served a 17-year jail sentence after being convicted of killing his grandmother.
Spengler’s sister is unaccounted for and police fear she may have died in the fire, which engulfed seven houses.
The two dead firefighters were named by police as Tomasz Kaczowka and Mike Chiapperini.
Mr Pickering told reporters: “These people get up in the middle of the night to go put out fires; they don’t expect to be shot and killed.”
The two injured firefighters were named as Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino.
They are being treated for gunshot wounds at the Strong Memorial Hospital and are expected to recover.
Police spokesmen said the area was “an active crime scene” but that no more shooters were believed to be present.
‘Senseless act’
Two of the firefighters had arrived in a fire engine and two in their own vehicles, police said. One wounded man managed to escape but the others were pinned down until the armoured car could be sent in.
Police evacuated residents and firefighters were then able to return to tackle the blaze.
Chief Pickering said: “Webster is a tremendous community. We are a safe community, and to have a tragedy befall us like this is just horrendous.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement: “All of our thoughts and prayers go to the families and friends of those who were killed in this senseless act of violence.”
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said: “The contributions made by the fallen and injured officers in Webster will never be forgotten.
“As this investigation unfolds, we stand with our partners in law enforcement to ensure that lethal weapons are out of the hands of dangerous people, so that the brave New Yorkers who risk their lives every day to protect us are not exposed to additional danger.”

(CNN) — A police officer and a bystander died from wounds suffered in a parking lot shootout after a car chase in a Houston suburb Monday, police said.
The pursuit started after a driver refused to stop when a Bellaire, Texas, police officer tried to pull over his vehicle, Houston police spokesman John Cannon said.

I don’t like it. I don’t want the necessary inspections that would be needed to enforce the law and firearms locked away are also inaccessible if needed.
I do agree that firearms should be secured. I do agree that if there is a person with mental problems in the home, then any guns should be removed or made inaccessible by said person. But I don’t want the government making millions of people into criminals because they have decided that the gun in their night stand drawer is necessary for peace of mind.
@Starryflights
I guess we should just disband the police.
Btw…Gregory and Obama and many others in DC send their kids to a school with their own security team. I guess that they should get rid of that detail and the Secret Service, etc.
@Cargosquid No, I don’t think we should disband the police. When two armed officers and two firefighters are shot to death within 24 hours, I am hard pressed to believe that there need to be more guns around to prevent such acts.
I think this is very interesting. And it’s true isn’t it? We don’t know who these guys are.

This is a recording of one of the ambushed firefighters from yesterday calling for help. Note he used the term “assault rifle” several times to describe the shooter’s weapon.
good work Starry! It was too easy though…….. 🙁
