This mistletoe is the most I have ever seen and sits in a gem of a place. Any ideas where you can see this much mistletoe in one place?
All mistletoe are hemi-parasite plants, bearing evergreen leaves that do some photosynthesis, and using the host mainly for water and mineral nutrients. Once the mistletoe establishes a permanent connect to the host, it pretty much stops any photosynthesis and just leeches off the host plant.
Too much mistletoe can kill a tree. Are these in danger? On another topic, any snow planned for this week?
There is or used to be a lot of mistletoe near the intersection of Braddock and Union Mill Roads. Is your picture from Prince Willy County instead?
That is gen-u-ine Prince Billy Bob Mistletoe.
You should have heard Grov. Christie abt an hour ago at press conference. That guy really lit into Boehener saying he and he alone was the one that pull the vote about the 60 million bill re aid for Sandy victims; said he had been promised that it would be brought up AFTER the “cliff” vote was over. It’s been 66 days since Sandy.
“this is a disaster. In disasters people unite, but in Washington today, they’re still playing political games with people’s lives.” / Well, that’s loosely from memorey.
From Michael Schermer of Skeptic magazine.
Morality test. Very interesting. I am 55% liberal.
http://www.outofservice.com/morality/
37 percentile. Heh. As if that’s a surprise. Good test.
Cargo, you leftie you. That is almost a centrist. wowowowowowowow
I expected you to be down in the single digits.
It also told me I was a disagreeable old grouch or something to that effect.
54%.
So far we are the glowing liberals, Lyssa. We are followed closely by Cargo at 37%.
I scored 48%. Right in the middle.
I think 55 is a centrist score.
Braaachh, 39, I’ll have to buckle down and work on being more conservative.
Did agree with this finding:
“You find it easy to criticize others.”
me too. Our tie that binds, MoM. Actually I thought it was your sterling moral character.
Thats the reason it told me I was a cross disagreeable old bitch, I think.
61% liberal.
predictable.
44% and I am sure the questions were skewed / worded to suggest a more liberal conclusion. I expected something in the 20s !!!
Why would you expect it to be skewed? Could it be your answers removed from politics?
All surveys are skewed by their authors. Human nature? Statistically Always and Never force the respondent to the center and to the averages.
Politics? You mean the art of compromising right and wrong ?
I would’t say that is what all sruveys do. In fact, if we are all lumped around the center, it makes for a boring survey.
@Moon-howler
I believe I’ve been called worse and would take “cross disagreeable old bitch” as a compliment.
“Conventional , shy in social situations, good-natured, courteous,
supportive, generally relaxed moderate conservative (55%)”
seeks political home away from wingnuts – right or left.
Hi Steve! Happy New Year!
I wish it had said that about me. I get to be a miserable old bitch. 🙄
Howstuffworks.com:
That is a huge chunk of change!
Speaker John Poehner just reelected as speaker. As Nancy pelosi is up there blathering, Boehner looks like he wants to hit her with the over-sized gavel.
Too funny.
He is giving his speech now. He really needs to whip his bad boys and girls into shape and get them acting like 21st century Americans.
Wishing everyone a Happy 2013!
The markets certainly have started very well M-H, but we know how
soon they can turn. It is predicted to be another bumpy ride.
(But what choice do we have? Good old F.D.I.C. insured bank
savings are paying zip).
Perhaps connected, the Richmond Times-Dispatch (1-3-2013)
notes “ABC Reports Record Profit”. They have returned
1.5 billion to the state over the past five years.
And just think, Governor Ultra-sound wanted to see the ABC stores. He is misguided in his version of morality.
1.5 billion profit in 5 years is nothing to sneeze at.
Yea, no choice as to markets. I guess my plan is stocks that pay dividends and aren’t real exotic. It wasn’t a spectaular year but I also didn’t lose my shirt.
“…but I also didn’t lose my shirt.”
for which we are all thankful, hehehe, the last thing we need to see is a half-naked “cross disagreeable old bitch” traipsing around the county.
This is very true, MoM. Feeling a little …full of one’s self today?
I also have the power, according to that morality test, to put a curse on people’s booze.
Simply demonstrating how I “find it easy to criticize others”. Now, putting a curse on people’s booze, that’s how blood feuds start and I suspect that many of us are better armed than the constabulary that would be sent in to halt the bloodshed.
its pretty difficult to fight a curse.
I got the same distinction of “find it easy to criticize others.” I think we both probably got into some bad water …probably the same place.
ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buses in PWC will be off schedule and delayed bacause of the motorcade honoring Officer Chris Yung. It will travel across county and will probably have a domino effect on high school, middle school and elementary bus times.
War on Women continues from Republican ranks. House Republicans let the landmark Violence Against Women Act expire. Way to go, menl. Way to go.
What do you REALLY know about entitlements?
I got 11 right. Should have been 12 but I thought that the answer was going to be the non-obvious one.
http://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/p19174.xml
?????? I am not going to read some slanted, biassed diatribe against John Kerry just to get to a test on entitlements.
If that includes Medicare and Medicaid I will have steam coming out of my ears. Entitlements my ass. Americans have paid for those benefits.
Downton Abbey fans- Its almost here. for anyone who needs a fix before the big day you can stream seasons 1 and 2 from netflix. Instant gratification.
For Emma–the details of the entail in Downton Abbey and a victorian blog.

@Moon-howler Excellent! I’ve decided I was accidentally born into the wrong lifestyle. I’m catching up on season 2 now.
Waiting in a huge line of mourners for fallen PWC Officer Chris Yung last evening, many of us could have done without the loud conference being held between Supervisors Nohe and Caddigan while we were waiting to quietly pay our respects. Apparently, the two of them saw this as an opportunity to discuss what sounded like a child-custody case for all to hear, while everyone around looked annoyed and uncomfortable. Thank goodness for the young lady who spoke up and asked them to please quiet down. Totally classless behavior by public officials who should know better.
Maybe they were fighting over custody of the sheriff??? Oh that was a bad joke.
It sounds like they needed a reminder.
I am catching up on season 1. Getting all the people set in my mind….again.
@Moon-howler
I didn’t read anything. Let me check.
Sorry.
I apparently linked to the wrong thing and didn’t check. I’ll see if I can find it. I didn’t mean to link that one.
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2012/1231/How-much-do-you-know-about-US-entitlement-programs-Take-our-quiz/Percentage-of-US-recipients?nav=606451-csm_blog_post-promoLink
Here it is. Sorry.
thanks!
Most people don’t know all those stats. In fact. some of it is wrong. For instance, SSI is also to help poor people and disabled people.
Here is the rub, the 60+ year old set gets enraged over “entitlement” nomenclature. Having medicare and social security thrown in with food stamps, welfare, medicaid, etc is well, just plain old insulting after paying into these programs their entire life.
I don’t care to hear about “entitled”. That enrages me also. Either SS and medicare are entitlements and the rest of the stuff isn’t or….SS and medicare are senior benefits. “Entitlement” just isn’t accurate. Those two benefits shouldn’t have tin cup words used to describe them. SS and Medicare should be badges of honor that you have made it this far, rather than looking at people collecting like they are bilking the system.
The average medicare recipient in this area pays a minimum of $300 out of pocket each month. How many knew THAT? Medicare B is $104 a month, Gap can be between $100-200, and D which is rx can be $75. Do the math. That is more than many workers pay.
Here’s a very interesting website:
http://www.congressoftheintelligent.org/Default.aspx
They address the question of whether the opinions of highly intelligent people differ from the general population. They take public opinion polls, and present the general population results compared to their own results. To view all of the polls, use “guest” as both your login and password.
You can apply for membership (free) by documenting that you have an IQ in the top 2% of the population. Membership allows you to vote in the polls and comment.
Many of the polls show little difference between the general population and the higly intelligent. Other results might surprise some. For example, a much higher percent of the highly intelligent think that it is possible both to accept evolution and believe in God at the same time than the general population.
That doesn’t surprise me at all actually. I can’t imagine why the two concepts can’t coexist and actually enhance each other.
@Moon-howler
I agree, and that’s the view I hold. I suppose the politicians don’t pay much attention to this website. Two percent is not a big block of voters.
Did anybody watch the opening of Congress a while ago?
I swear the Boehner was in his cups. Really sad.
@Moon-howler I think the survey is screwed up. It sais I was socially and polically liberal and then gave me a 7 overall. It says 99 is the most liberal and it gave me a 7 based on my traditional attitudes.
Bleh.
I think you need to do it again. Ssomething sounds wrong. Did you look in the red area? It was very difficult to see, at the very end.
I just do not understand – it must be me.
There are some talking heads (and politicians) who wanted to freeze, and make permanent all the Bush tax cuts – which would have added to our ongoing deficit. But, the Obama tax cuts, which were made permanent, are less (deficit wise) then if all the tax cuts were extended. So, before New Years, the talking heads wanted all the tax cuts extended, but now are complaining that the tax cuts that were extended come at a price (less revenue). I think this is just talking heads needing something to talk about, cause having a bill signed that adds less to the deficit cannot have been a bad thing – right? Boehner’s plan B would have added more than the Obama tax cuts.
7.7 Mwp – SOUTHEASTERN ALASKA Huge earthquake. Yes, Alaska is one of our states.
@Pat.Herve
@Pat, it isn’t just you. I think they talking heads just want to hear themselves talk and bitch about Obama.
You betcha.
http://gardenandgun.com/article/end-line-taste-home
Thought you might enjoy this article M-H.
@Steve Randolph
Thanks, Steve. You know, I even have a brother named Tucker, just because I lived there for 3 years. We lived off of Lavista and I went to Oak Grove Elementary and then Briarcliff High school for 1 year.
@Pat.Herve
Tax cuts do not add to deficits. Spending adds to deficits. Maybe if we didn’t add 4 trillion in NEW spending, the budget deal would make sense.
M-H, Briarcliff closed years ago but part of the site has been recently
renamed Beacon Hills High School and serves as a location for the
shooting of MTV’s Teen Wolf Series. Now that is a howl.
That is a real howl!!!!! Little did they know at the time that Moon-Howler was amongst them. I wonder why it closed? it wasn’t that old of a school, by school standards. You would think it could have been converted into a middle school or something. When I lived there there was no middle school.
Yesterday’s game started off so well then .. Arghhh!
Hope RGIII takes time to fully recover before next season and
the Redskins learn better ways to protect him. He is a super star,
but, as it turns out, not Superman. (Knew we were in deep trouble
when he came on the field moving like me before my first cup of coffee
in the morning). And as a top notch coach (on Monday morning), I
would have put in Cousins earlier.
Still an exciting season.. Hail to the Redskins!
Moon check this out, this dog has titanium teeth!

I like the dogs of war as long as they are trained for war and police work and not by some redneck to fight his neighbors.
Get ready for MORE taxes.
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/275815-democrats-looking-for-up-to-1t-in-new-tax-revenues-this-year
“Democrats say they want to raise as much as $1 trillion in new revenues….”

FYI
Excellent! @Steve Randolph. I do support that monopoly because I like how it works and I like virginia getting the money.
As for the guns, I sure hope the purchase was for guns people were keeping themselves and not reselling in other states.
Something that might have contributed to increased sales also wass the fact that the handgun limit was lifted from 13 a year to I am asssuming unlimited. Let the gun running begin again.
@Moon-howler
You’ve got mail. Need a favor and set up a dinner night. 🙂
Mr. Cohrs should be thanking we the taxpayers of PW for OUR contributions of tax dollars. Glad to see the BoS get the thanks. When is this “musuem” supposed to be complete?
Mom!!!
Retell what happened, lafayette. I just started watching at 245. phone call.
Our “friends” from the WarTimeMusuem were there to sing the praises of the county and Hyltons for their generous donations. Bwhahaha…that tract of land was useless. I believe there will be storm water/run-off issues.
Now, where the hell is MOM?!
It’s reminiscent of the plea for that cool quarter of a mill with no plan before the Sesqui. 👿
Oh, he just said it would open when they had the $$$. They still need $30 mil
As long as we don’t have to put up any money to float them, I guess I am ok with that act of butt kissing.
@Lafayette
Yeah, I’m watching, thanks to Mr. Cors, thanks to Mr. Hylton, thanks to all our charitable partners, blah, blah, blah, sorry for having inconvenienced you fine folks with our pesky rules and requirements, blaccchhh.
@Mom
I thought we’d see eye to eye on this BS. It’s love fest is never ending…..
My guess is that once he reaches $30 million and gets the building started, somehow, someway the county taxpayers will end up paying to get it finished.
err, THIS love fest….
I like the part the initial funds were raised locally. They’ve taken the begging nationally it seems. smdh
The well must have been shallow here in Prince billy Bob.
