26 Thoughts to “Downton Abbey….indulge us”

  1. Scout

Great interviews over two days on NPR’s Morning Edition with members of the cast. If you missed them, I suspect they are still available on the Morning Edition website

  2. Emma

I had to stop watching after the season 1 recap. Might be a week or so before I start watching the new season.

Some of the best lines come from Violet:

    “What is a weekend?”

“I couldn’t have electricity in the house, I wouldn’t sleep a wink. All those vapors floating about.”

“We can’t have him assassinated, I suppose?”

Love, love, love this show. Thanks for calling it to my attention, Moon. I shall from now on be addressed as “Lady Emma”.

    1. Why not change your moniker? I am not opposed to a class system, at least during Downton Abbey.

I had to stop watching after season one because Netflix didn’t have season 2 on streaming. GRRRRRRRRRRR

I had planned on an all night marathon.

Those were great one liners. I think that old bitch is my favorite character. I also like Anna.

I love the irony of the “upper” help being far more class conscious that the real aristocracy.

Lady Emma, of all the characters, who do you relate to the most?

  3. Lady Emma, I found season 2 streaming through yidio…but then through Amazon prime. no charge!

    Good deal.

  4. Lady Emma

It’s on Prime? That must be new. I didn’t see it when I checked a few days ago. Someone’s lending me the DVD, so I’m in for some late nights!

    1. I didn’t find it on prime. I googled and found it on yidio.com

it then linked me to amazon prime. I am a prime member so I just kept forging ahead and it didn’t charge me. I have watched one from season 2.

  5. Emma

The Lady is in moderation. Watch that bar of soap!

    1. I got her covered. I saw that bar of soap again last night. The maid is evil.

  6. Lyssa

Lady Emma sound better than Lady Lyssa. I’m old so I’ll go with Your Ladyship. Moon? I can think of a few 🙂

    1. Would you like to change also for the duration?

Hint…use your same email address if you want to go downton for a while. That way both of your accounts will work once I approve the downton one.

  7. Lady Emma

You don’t sound old enough to be “Dowager Countess” (Violet). Maybe just “Countess”?@Lyssa

    1. I might be old enough to be Dowager Countess though. [eyes lighting up]

  8. Lyssa

I like Countess – it sounds a bit more independant. And yes, moon you have the tongue – and wit.

    1. I want dowager countess. I think she and I have some common ground….@Lyssa.

I am almost finished with season 2.

  9. Its wonderful. Shirley McLaine. I didn’t see this one coming. She is horrible.

The Star City knows how to party.

    1. I’ll say. Only in the Valley. My cousins who did it live in Staunton.

  11. Rick Bentley

Anyone else watch “Girls”? Or “Enlightened”? I like both of those shows a lot.

    1. I like Girls. I had a huge conflict though. Downtown ran 2 hours, so I couldn’t record it. HBO go said it started next week. Everythign else said this week? Who is right?

      What is Enlightened about?

  12. Rick Bentley

Enlightened stars Laura Dern as a woman struggling a bit to cope with her life. She is out of rehab, a bit full of herself, and not quite there. The tone is comedic drama. In its own funny way it is about the way that people are defined in large part by their work lives, and about people who can’t quite cope with their life. The show it resembles a bit in style is (the great) “Six Feet Under”.

And “Girls” as you know resembles “Sex and the City” except funnier and more vital and grittier and with lena Dunham walking around being an NC-17 version of Tina Fey’s PG-13 personna.

    1. What has struck me about girls is just how immature they are. They are more like 13 year olds to me, rather than college graduates. I have been wondering of there really are twenty-somthings out there at that maturity level.

  13. Rick Bentley

Immature twenty year olds? Definitely. I think the big deviation from reality is how promiscuous they are.

David Mamet’s daughter, playing the airheaded one, is hilarious.

    1. I think a lot of people are that promiscuous…not saying that is the standard but just that it isn’t highly unusual. I know a couple people that bad or who used to be. Their behavior took my breath away then as these girls’ do now. These girls aren’t women they are girls. They are college graduates with the maturity of middle schoolers. Its like a train wreck. I must watch it.

did you actually see ep. 1 of season 2 last night?

Have you seem Bomb Girls on Reelz?

  14. Lady Emma

Just got through the first episode of season 2. Thomas is predictably a sniveling little coward. I love Lady Mary’s character development so far.

    1. I hate Thomas. I love Violet. Lady Edith is turning more human.

I saw ep. 8 of season 2 just as Season 3 began. I wasn’t quite finished. I have seen them all but I needed the refresher course.

Lots of change on the horizon.
