bare trees

Feeding the birds or teasing the cats?  Do you have a bird feeder?  I gave up.  They made such a mess on the porch and then the squirrels came.  Need I say more?

Those birds had to go.  I was sick of looking at them (she said grouchily).

So are we getting any of the inclement weather or does it all go north?

I’m hanging my head in embarrassment here. We have seven bird feeders and one squirrel feeder though the squirrels get in all of them. Most are at least 20 feet from the house but one is attached to the window and so is the cat.

  2. Elena

When we had our two blind kitties we could enjoy the bird feeder on the back deck, even the one last seeing cat wasn’t much of a hunter. Now our Dewey kitty is a hunter (have any winter mice, Dewey charges a minimal fee). We have to put our birder feeder way off the deck!

    1. Even blind ones know they are there.

  3. Why is there a BOCS meeting today? No meeting was published as late as yesterday on the county website. They announced an closed meeting.

What is Corey up to now?

Word on the street is that people are getting mighty tired of Corey trying to run the county when there are 7 other supervisors.

  4. I stand corrected, I think. page 1 of 1 means there is one (1) page. I didn’t scroll down. Silly me.

There was a closed meeting this morning and then a regular meeting that started at 2 pm.

  5. The Washington Post says that our new police chief will be Steve Hudson.

Eric Cantor says undocumented children should be offered citizenship

By Liz Goodwin, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 5 hrs ago..

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., said on Tuesday that the children of illegal immigrants should be granted a path to citizenship, providing a clue about how the GOP-controlled House may tackle immigration reform this year.

“A good place to start is with the kids,” Cantor said during his speech at the American Enterprise Institute. “One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents. It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home.”

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/eric-cantor-says-undocumented-children-offered-citizenship-194427232–election.html

There are lots of things with which I disagree with our Virginia Congressman Cantor about, but on this issue, I agree with himm 100 percent. Kids are innocent. Eric Cantor is a hee row to the tea party conservatives!

    1. Obviously the Tea-publicans get it that mean isn’t going to get them anywhere. Someone needs to tell Corey Stewart. he is still beating the immigrant drum.

  7. Peterson

I would have to disagree Starry, it would only act as a magnet for moms and dads to bring children on a deadly trip across the desert. Kids are going to die, very bad idea.

    1. I honestly don’t think you understand about immigration from those from the desert. They aren’t coming here to make their children citizens.

So, just what would you do with 20 year olds who were brought to this country at age 2? They obviously can’t be deported.

Apples vs oranges, two completely different circumstances. I’m not talking about 20 year olds. I’m just saying if they provide (the generic term) kids citizenship it could cause a wave of new immigrants to bring their children along for the trip where they normally wouldn’t have.

It could cause a rash of immigration composed of more children than normal in the hopes the children would be granted citizenship. This would, without a doubt, cause kids to die in the desert.

    Agree or disagree?

    1. I already said that US citizenship is rarely an objective for Hispanic immigrants. I totally disagree with you.

Very interesting, however, it’s nothing new. If u knew what you were doing most (if not all) of these ‘secure file transfer methods’ have been available for quite some time. Anywhere from PGP encryption, HTTPS, SFTP, hell… even encrypted zip. Not to mention dozens and dozens of other ways… 😉

But this is a good option of at least a secure file transfer method for your average computer/smart device user that may not know of different types of SFTP. I just wish I would have thought of it first. Building mobile apps is somewhat of a new hobby of mine.

The Republican-controlled Virginia House of Delegates on Monday advanced legislation that could lead to the establishment of a state-issued currency.

Lawmakers passed the bill by a 65-32 vote, setting up the possibility of a clash with Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), who has questioned the need for the legislation, The Washington Post reports. The legislation, which is being pushed by state delegate Bob Marshall (R-Manassas), would have the state set up a group to study the creation of a metallic based currency. Establishment of the currency would allow for the state to move back to the use of the gold standard.

“Nuts” Maybe so Starry, unless you read your history and understand that history repeats itself. In that case, this could be the most amazing and far sighted piece of protective economic legislation ever considered, facilitating each citizen of Virginia to slowly protect themselves from economic collapse. Sort of like the preppers, who are crazy nuts until the s^#t hit the fan.

  14. @Starryflights
Marshall is hitting unconstitutional territory that I know of. Only the feds can issue gold and silver currency. States can only issue scrip that can be redeemed in gold and silver.

    1. i believe that is exactly what he wants to do…issue in gold or silver.

But I think it is an incredibly stupid idea. We are talking Marshall here.

  15. blue

    @Moon-howler

Agreed, as I understand it script that would be valued at the price of gold or silver to protect against inflation and the weakening of the US dollar by the Federal Reserve.

  16. Starryflights

Ah, yeah, and how do you value the price of gold? In US Dollars! THINK!

  17. The world is screwed up worse than I thought.

    From the Washington Post yesterday:
Albatross named Wisdom astounds scientists by producing chick at age 62

Then there was a story about a 9 year old girl in Mexico giving birth to a little girl.

Can’t everyone just reproduce at a normal age?

  18. punchak

Hahahaha!!! The world is out of kilter, Moon!

  24. Censored BySON

Apologies to the original Censored …..

I have been blocked from the Sheriff of Nottingham. By taking the position that the SON seemed to be very focused the CXO and her physical attributes, disagreeing with him or her on any topic regarding local funding issues, pointing out a prevailing theme of all Candland all the time, and daring to point out what appeared to be a somewhat anti- woman theme – he or she thinks I’m Donna someone and has blocked me from disagreeing with him/her.

Ah, that blog is sure to go the way of BVBL – always being against something is not sustainable. And Pete Candland has to account for his alignment with them.

  25. That’s an interesting story but has as many flaws as a leopard has spots. The Sheriff is running his blog on Blogger which has no feature by which he can block anybody. He may not post your comments but there is no way for him to block you from his site.

  26. Censored BySON

What do you call hitting enter and nothing happening. No post. The person or person running this think I’m someone named Donna. I have said repeatedly I’m not.

    1. Well, Censored bySON, I know your name isn’t Donna. I saw once that the Sheriff thought you were someone else. I think that happens quite often. Lots of people have been accused of being the D word, including me. I thought it was funny. I just don’t think he realizes that many people might disagree…especially since I consider his blog the PWC tea party blog.

Derecho, can those using Blogger software see an IP address?

  27. Censored BySON

And, by the way that snide remark accusing me of lying is not necessary. I may not be as savvy as others with technical language. That wasn’t nice.

  28. “What do you call hitting enter and nothing happening. No post.”

I call that comment moderation, something blogger is capable of doing, not blocking you, a function it is not capable of, nothing more nothing less.

  29. Censored BySON

I call it blocking. Why so defensive?

  30. It appears that one of our recent contributors (2 names, not just one) has a growing fan club over on the Sheriff’s blog.

I can’t say I feel too sorry for her.

What goes around, comes around. As for someone having his or her nose up someone’s butt, that individual should know ALL about that.

No, that is not a capability of Blogger.

After writing a post and hitting publish, a yellow indicator should appear indicating your post is being reviewed. As of three days ago, if I submit a post nothing appears and what I wrote vanishes. Even if I hit edit – it disappears.

    That’s not moderation.

Did you scroll down to the bottom of the comment box and fill out the Captcha Code section that prevents bot posting. It is a relatively common mistake to those unfamiliar with Blogger to miss filling that out which results in the post disappearing when you hit publish. I’ve done it more than once and had to rewrite posts in their entirety.

    1. @The Derecho, I think SoN has disabled that part of his blog.

You have blocked me because I disagree occasionally and I sound female (must be Donna) or I’m unbalanced (even better) There have been plenty of times I’ve agreed with you or you all. So unless I’m a female fellow blog master or only agree you’re not interested in opposing opinions.
Here’s a tip – I don’t use crude expressions or words. She does – from what I saw on your blog last night and here.

Nope. I was home by 10:30. Had to then take the kid to school. She’s dealing with a lot of health problems.

Things are looking up, though. She went to a 7th/8th grade dance tonight. I don’t remember 7th/8th graders being allowed to, much less actually wearing dresses and skirts that short when I was younger. And by younger… I mean anytime since yesterday.

MY daughter was wearing slacks. By her OWN choice.

    1. Good for her. Its far more difficult to shake your booty in slacks.

I think it is probably just a losing battle.

You gotta look hot and the fashion industry loves making a fortune and selling less fabric.

  40. What the heck is going on in California?
The LAPD are looking for a big black man in a grey Nissan Pickup with a luggage rack on the roof… so they shoot up a blue Toyota Tacoma with no rack, with two old ladies in it delivering newspapers. Shot up the rear of the truck. 42 shots.

What the hell? How open is the LAPD going to be about NOT planning to arrest that rogue cop?

Republicans scramble for the center on immigration
By NICHOLAS RICCARDI | Associated Press – 19 hrs ago

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) — It was little surprise when freshman Republican Rep. Mike Coffman in 2010 voted against a bill to grant citizenship to some young illegal immigrants. After all, the Marine Corps veteran had just won the seat in Congress formerly held by firebrand Rep. Tom Tancredo, who had pushed the GOP to take a harsher stance against illegal immigration.

The bill, known as the DREAM Act, died in the Senate.

Now Coffman has changed course. He has introduced legislation to let unauthorized immigrants brought into the country as children earn citizenship if they serve in the military. And he spoke hopefully about an immigration overhaul that a bipartisan group of senators outlined last week.
Since the November elections, many other Republicans nationwide have tempered their tone on immigration — if not reversed course completely — after years of tacking right to appeal to grass-roots activists who dominate GOP primaries.

    “http://news.yahoo.com/republicans-scramble-center-immigration-091049933–politics.html;_ylt=Au.R3GUSHLcFqRY31IWtOGP9r.l_;_ylu=X3oDMTVxcmM3bTk0BGNjb2RlA2dtcHRvcDEwMDBwb29sd2lraXVwcmVzdARtaXQDQXJ0aWNsZSBNaXhlZCBMaXN0IE5ld3MgZm9yIFlvdSB3aXRoIE1vcmUgTGluawRwa2cDZDFjYjE5NmUtYjE5YS0zN2ZlLTlhYWYtM2E3Yjg1YjIxMzMxBHBvcwMyBHNlYwNuZXdzX2Zvcl95b3UEdmVyA2E3YTk3YzkwLTcyMzItMTFlMi1iZDdiLTEyNWUzMDY5NmNlMg–;_ylg=X3oDMTM5dHIxbGtjBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDMTFiNWFmMmEtYjgxOS0zMGU5LWIwNmQtYjEyNWFkODU2ZmZlBHBzdGNhdANwb2xpdGljcwRwdANzdG9yeXBhZ2UEdGVzdANUZXN0X0FGQw–;_ylv=3”
