8 Thoughts to “The Perils of Gay Marriage”

DOMA is and always was stupid. A tribute to the irrational and masturbatory nature of our Republic. It also seems unconstitutional to me. Marriage has always been the domain of the States, not the Federal Government.

I think it’ll be a reasonable direction forward to let each state decide who can be married, and for the Federal Government to respect those unions rather than to systematically disrespect them.

And longer term the issue is just about dead. All the polls show that. It’s becoming more and more obvious to everyone that people are born gay, and that it’s insane to discriminate against them. Those who do usually justify it with religious mumbo-jumbo. And it reflects very poorly on their religions.

    1. I think it is a fair question to ask if marriage should be the domain of the states rather than federal domain? Do we then have a checkerboard of marriage laws?

Can Billie Sue marry Bobby Lee at age 13? Can Mary marry Sue in NY and will it be recognized in Georgia?

If it makes some nitwit feel bad about their stupid narrow-minded view of the world, I couldn’t care less. Time to grow up.

The problem is, there are too many nitwits and their narrow world view is the law of the land. Then someone has a problem, namely gay folks.

I think in our mobile society we should have the expectation that if we’re married in New York, we’re married in Alabama – and entitled to the same tax breaks or burdens.

“Can Billie Sue marry Bobby Lee at age 13? Can Mary marry Sue in NY and will it be recognized in Georgia?”

I believe that is the case?

    1. That’s the reason I want federal guidelines–for the uniformity. Fine for the states to oversee it, as long as we have national standards.

I’m in favor of that. I might back off at forcing a state to recognize gay marriage at the State level, whatever that entails.
