The Republican State Convention selected the following folks to challenge the Democrats in this year’s state elections.

Governor:  Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli

Lt. Governor:  Bishop E.W. Jackson

Attorney General:  Senator Mark Obenshain

This is an extremely conservative ticket.  Make no mistake, the Democrats will point out the extremism.  It looks like its all about numbers now–who can get the most votes.  As far right as this slate is, the Democrats can be all over the spectrum.

There will be a Democratic primary on June 11th to decide who will represent the party for Lt. Governor and Attorney General.

  1. Jackson wanted to legalized enhanced interrogations and make it illegal to prosecute CIA or military who performed such ‘methods.’

    Totally scary.

“ticket analysis” is overdone in Virginia. Each of these candidates will run an individual race with its own individual dynamics. It’s quite possible we could get a mixed result in November.

    1. I dont like the core politics of any of them. I know the least about jackson.

I am glad Corey Stuart lost his Lt Governor bid. I guess he was not conservative enough for party haks.

So Jackson is running on a platform of allowing the CIA to use torture? That is an odd position for a Lt Governor of Virginia to run on since the Lt Governor has no say on what the CIA does.

It is good that the democrats are allowing Virginians to elect nominees, rather than insider party hacks.

“It is good that the democrats are allowing Virginians to elect nominees, rather than insider party hacks.”

Ironic, considering that the top of the Democrat ticket is the very definition of “insider party hack”.

I think it’s pretty obvious that a convention results in the most extreme in a party to be nominated compared to an election, and I think the Republicans have done the Democrats a huge favor by nominating this ticket. If the Dems had a more viable candidate for governor, he’d be a shoo-in at this point…

    1. People will bitch if someone has been in office too long and they will bitch if he has no experience.

For someone who doesn’t do anything with business McAuliffe certainly has amassed a fortune.

McAuliffe will be fine. I feel confident. Just wait till he and Bill start making the rounds.
