That’s one way of looking at it. Moe Davis is right. Too many politicians have done the mea culpa thing and all is seemingly forgiven. Shed a tear or two and you come out a winner. Vitter, Sandord, are just the beginning of a long list of Republican naughty boys who have been forgiven and embraced by the ‘base.’

According to Moe Davis, the solution for Weiner  “…to revive his political career, Weiner needs to move south to a less intellectual state, change the pronunciation of his last name to ‘Win-ner,’ and convert to a New Testament religion like Sen David Vitter and Rep Mark Sanford so he can say “the Good Lord gave me another chance, so shouldn’t you?””

Anthony Weiner does need to convert. Anyone with Weiner for a last name who lives to adulthood really should be forgiven. He is a walking, breathing self-fulfilling prophecy.

Ah, the moral bankruptcy clause afforded to certain born again Christians who have the sincerity of snake oil salesmen. There are thousands of sincere committed believers – the fakers are easy to spot. They’re usually the loudest.

    1. There are about a million bible verses warning us about this very thing. My own personal favorite is:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

  2. Lyssa

Then there’s the San Diego Mayor…

  3. Long list of Republicans?

Did you forget the Democrats that do the same thing?

Does the name “Clinton” ring a bell?

    Its politicians in general.

  4. The difference between Bill Clinton and someone like Vitter or Sanford is Clinton never claimed to be the moral majority. Clinton doesn’t leave behind a paper trail of hypocrisy.

  5. @Cargo, and to answer your question, no. What party does Weiner belong to?

I honestly have no idea the party of the mayor of San Diego.

Feel free to list current r recent naughty Democrats. I will put them through the moonie hypocrisy test. With Democrats, the party faithful and the Indies usually aren’t looking for a spiritual leader in their politicians.

People on this blog might want to remember that *I* was the one who felt sorry for Mark Sanford. The more conservative members of the blog were all over his tail. Quick to forgive or was it the tears and mea culpas?

  6. @Moon-howler
Oh…so that makes it all better that he just lied about it.

    Okay then.

  7. Lyssa

The mayor is a Democrat. Male weakness/sleaze/pig behavior is bi-partisan. It’s male.

  8. Lyssa

And Moon has a point about people throwing stones. That’s as much a sin as lying.

  9. punchak

    @Lyssa
Rudi Giuliani comes to mind. Remember Judith Nathan in Gracie Mansion?
Now, in spite of being “devout” Catholic, in his third marriange. Her 3rd as well.

Oh well, at least they married which makes everything OK, I guess.

    1. Don’t forget to throw in a whole bunch of affairs.

  10. Cato the Elder

    Moon-howler :
The difference between Bill Clinton and someone like Vitter or Sanford is Clinton never claimed to be the moral majority. Clinton doesn’t leave behind a paper trail of hypocrisy.

No, he just left behind a trail of sexual assault victims. But at least he wasn’t a hypocrite.

    1. And a bunch of willing partners.

Sanford was a love sick puppy.

So tell me Cato, why is it you want me to turn on Clinton and you aren’t willing to turn on all the Republican scum bags?

      I don’t justify Clinton’s sexual conduct.
I just think he was a good president.

  11. Cato the Elder

Moe’s last sentence should be shouted from the mountain tops. I’d bet you half of these elected degenerates couldn’t pass a basic background check.

  12. @Cargosquid

Seriously, how many people would tell the truth?

That’s sort of the reason we call it sneaking around.

Let’s stop the Clinton baiting. that is 15 year old news. Find another issue to beat to death. I am willing to offer up Anthony Weiner. He deserves it.

  13. It wasn’t baiting. It was relevant. He’s a politician that did similar stuff. Not beating it to death.

ANY and all of the politicians that do stuff like this should not be re-elected.

    1. Cargo, that is such old news. Obviously no one much cared. He stayed in office and is wildly popular with all sorts of folks today. Yes, you are beating it to death. How much longer is it going to be a hot item?

Isn’t it up to the voters to decide if someone should be re-elected? That is sort of the point many of us are making. Who is forgiven and who is not?

  14. @Cargosquid
Cargo, read the entire sentence…long list of Republicans who have been forgiven….

Don’t address only part of the sentence.

I believe that Mayor Filner is a Democrat. Do you think he will be forgiven? I don’t.

  15. Creep Filner is not resigning. He will spend two weeks in intense therapy and then continue to work on his problems when he gets back.

I guess that’s up to the people f San Diego.

  16. Filner is 70 years old and was a Freedom Rider when he was 18. He spend over 2 months in the Mississippi penitentiary for being an activist and freedom rider.

  17. Lyssa

I love the devout Catholic thing. But I do know that with some its more ethnic than religion 🙂

  18. That’s just it…Long list of Republicans..

And I pointed out that Democrats get forgiven too.

  19. Lyssa

Well according to Ranker lists of which party has more sex scandals –

Most lists begin counting from 1978, and if you do that, you come up with Republicans: 29 (adding Arnold Schwartzenegger to the Ranker list) and Democrats: 28. It’s a small lead. And really, Democrats are just one hacked Facebook account away from catching up.

Still pretty sure they’re all men…

Well, sometimes these escapades can bring thoughts of remembrance. I suppose most here are too young to remember Wilbur Mills, the powerful Dem Congressman from Arkansas who all but controlled the national budget. The D.C. cops found him drunk late one night in a car with notorious Argentine stripper Fanne Fox. Wilbur was so snockered that he was helpless. But Fanne actually jumped into the Tidal Basin in an effort to get away from the police. Wilbur managed to get himself re-elected despite the scandal. But then, for some insane reason, he gave a joint interview with Fanne’s husband from Fanne’s dressing room in a burlesque theater. It was downhill for Wilbur after that. It was the booze, they say.

  21. Lyssa

Fanne Foxe- blast from the past. I was, of course, a mere child but remember the sotto tone discussions. I miss sotto tone (voce) discussions.

  22. George S. Harris

Let he or she who is innocent cast the first stone 😉

  23. Carlos Danger

    George S. Harris :
Let he or she who is innocent cast the first stone

    Stone cast!!! Oh, wait…

  24. Emma

@Lyssa I love the “devout Catholic” thing, too! Like Ted Kennedy being lionized despite abandoning a drowning young woman, and then his family buying off her family’s silence. Such a long line of infidelities, drug use and alcoholism in that devout Catholic family, and yet somehow they never had to move to a “less intellectual state” to redeem themselves.

    1. Could we throw in a line about gossiping about things for which we have no proof? Unless you were with Ted Kennedy that fateful night, you don’t KNOW what he did or didn’t do. You can speculate but the proof really isn’t there.

Kennedy paid for whatever the nation thought. Operative word being THOUGHT. He lost all chance at running for president that night. Imagine being denied the chance to be assassinated along with his brothers!

  25. punchak

    @Lyssa
Newt Gingrich has became a devout Catholic in the last few years – AFTER he married
his 4th or more wife. Ethnic? And he thought he could be president of the US!

  26. punchak

    Newt BECAME a …

  27. Lyssa

Yes, ethnic. There are a few million others….

  28. Emma

Then there was Gary Hart and his “Monkey Business”

    @Wolverine

    1. Really digging for that one—into the past that is. Please don’t leave out that scumbag Gary Condit since we want to make this partisan. Then there is JFK, FDR, LBJ…all those tricky dicks. The real Tricky Dick was monogamous as far as anyone can tell.

  29. @Lyssa
Yea, you really don’t see the female politicians involved in that sort of behavior.

I am sure the males would make a huge issue if there were even suspicions. You remember how Rush Slimbaugh reacted to Sandra

  30. Again, the point is all parties have scumbags in them. The point is, we take greater joy when some hypocrite is caught than when the average Joe who doesn’t set himself up on some moral high road gets nailed. Its all about hypocrisy, making laws for others, when the very politicians making said laws are just as bad if not worse.

  31. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/07/28/anthony-weiner-campaign-manager-quits-danny-kedem/2593395/

Wiener’s campaign manager has resigned over the enlarging scandal, which seems to be extending ever farther towards more and more women.

Despite requests, Wiener refuses to withdraw and will stick it out in the Mayroral race. Democrat leaders have said that Wiener should come clean and declare once and for all whether he’s finished with his former outreach program. Too many women are coming forward, revealing all…. well, all of Wiener.

He is trying to get his campaign to rise, in the face of all this female opposition. He seems to be losing his grip, with support drooping. More and more exposure reveals how small his ……. support really is. The tally of his supporters is being whacked. The monkey on his back, his addiction to the public eye, needs spanking. His whole campaign is choking….the chickens…..are coming home to roost. Unfortunately, Wiener has decided that he would rather be laughed at for his tiny amount of support than give up the idea of screwing the voters of NYC. IF he continues to push for the primaries, he needs to get a grip on himself. But as long as his issue get flogged, he’ll never get past it.

I understand that the appeal of political office keeps tugging at him…keeps pulling him on him over and over again…..but he needs to release his demons. He needs to …let go. Until he can play well with others, he will only be playing with himself.

  32. “pulling him on him”
    EDIT then submit.

    Pulling on him

  33. Elena

Have we forgotten Speaker of the House Livingston during his witch hunt for Clinton and impeachment frenzy? Oh right, he was HAVING AN AFFAIR at the time.

Look, don’t be a cheating self righteous a-hole and then we won’t skewer you for hypocrisy!

Oh wait, another classic, anti gay homophobe Larry Craig, didn’t he solicit gay sex in an airport bathroom 😉

  34. Censored bybvbl

    @Elena
Don’t forget the “youthful indiscretion” of Henry Hyde…

  35. Elena

right on Censored! Oh, like Newt is a pillar of sexual moral fortitude and loyalty to spouse(s)

  36. I have a solution!

We should make being a “swinger” a requirement for office. No more sex scandals!

  37. Elena

    Or…..only elect women!

  38. @Elena
The only reason we haven’t had women involved in a sex scandal…is that the odds are against it due to the number of women.

    1. How about the fact that just isn’t the way women are wired.

  39. Elena

Nah Cargo, it’s not because there aren’t enough women. Generally speaking, women simply are ruled by only one head, and its atop their shoulders.
