Women for Choice my ass! What choice? Lies Lies Lies. Judging from the door in the video, that CPC is right here in Manassas. They have been pulling this crap for over 20 years. The lies and judgemental statements in the video were actually recorded and the film was presented by NARAL Pro-Choice America.
The entire ruse is deceitful. Just the name tricks scared young women into going to the ‘wrong clinic’ since its location is very close to a real medical facility. Private information is solicited from the women before they realize they are not in a medical facility. Pregnancy tests are even given. One young woman I know who was sent in, got phone calls at home and hymns were sung to her. Incidentally, she was not pregnant.
It is very alarming to think that confidential information would be collected in such a manner and that nothing is done to put a stop to this invasion of privacy. I would think that the HIPAA laws would shut them down because of patient privacy.
So how does Ken Cuccinelli fit into this web of deception?
From NARAL Pro-Choice America:
Virginia’s “crisis pregnancy centers” lie to women – and Ken Cuccinelli is working hard to support them.
Last month, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation released its report on a year-long investigation on Virginia “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) – anti-choice facilities that regularly pose as comprehensive health centers yet use coercion and outright lies to dissuade women from choosing abortion and even birth control. The findings were absolutely shocking:
Now, the foundation has released unbelievable new audio recordings – taken while undercover – that prove just how deceptive and manipulative Virginia’s CPCs really are. Watch and share the video NOW to see the lies CPCs tell women and learn about their connection to Ken Cuccinelli.
Cuccinelli is hell-bent on restricting women’s basic rights in every way, and has been a long-time, dedicated backer of Virginia’s dangerous and deceptive “crisis pregnancy centers.” He was the self-proclaimed proud sponsor of a 2009 bill to channel funds from the sale of “Choose Life” license plates to CPCs, and his record reflects unequivocal support for these dangerous facilities.
Women deserve the truth, and anyone seeking health-care services deserves comprehensive and medically-accurate information. Yet with Ken Cuccinelli’s help, CPCs continue to manipulate, coerce, and deceive Virginia women – and it’s up to you and me to expose them.
I don’t mind centers that operate to help pregnant women with financial and emotional aupport as long as they do not mislead with lies and distortions to support their own religious beliefs. I do mind the establishments that lie and I especially mind when they use public funds to propagate those lies. The very idea of telling someone that birth control will enslave them and they shouldn’t have sex if they aren’t married is unconscionable.
The local CPC used to be heavily supported by local churches and by the Knights of Columbus. Is lying now considered the Christian thing to do? I think not. There are plenty of ways to support women both single and married who have unwanted pregnancies. I would like to see all CPCs start doing so with the truth. About the most I have seen any of them come up with over the years is a few coupons for diapers and formula. That doesn’t exactly cut it, now does it?
I am surprised no one came here shrieking in outrage at the characterization of the CPC here in town.
Are the people involved too ashamed of themselves to even defend the lies they tell?
